Is this the BIG ONE? (criminal charges)

Honestly, I don't care where they go. Over seas is most likely, because the amateur league would struggle against NCAA due to the built in fan base that school provides. Not to mention, the current development league is unwatchable.
I don't care either. Leveling the field in college would be awesome. And who knows or can predict the difference between the 20th ranked player and the 60th ranked player. Coaching, style, fit ... more interesting and fun stuff.

I see many posts about what the “NCAA should do”. Many of us, including me, think of the NCAA as an enforcement-of-rules organization. That is not really its backbone. The NCAA was formed as an association of colleges that all agreed to play by certain rules. The initial expectation was that each of the agreement partners would enforce these rules within their organizations. Rules enforcement was not a primary NCAA role.

Unfortunately, many colleges, after agreeing to play by these rules, consciously and willfully broke those rules. Maybe they should be asked to leave the NCAA since they don’t seem to be able to follow those rules they said they would?

I think the best the NCAA can do is to (1) come down hard on the colleges for lack of institutional control, (2) consider any athlete that took money as a “professional” and ineligible to play another minute of college sports, and (3) put a life-time ban on any coach/assistant coach convicted of these charges.

I also think that the NCAA might consider banning Adidas and Nike from all colleges – hit this where the money and corruption came from.
From the sound of things, this scandal is going to be pretty far reaching and involves many schools. Regardless of how or why it was formed, the NCAA is a multi billion dollar cartel. They have very little incentive to stomp on their money makers.

It was just a week ago the doc said my bloodwork was great except I was too sweet of a guy in that my sugar was the second highest ever for probably 15 or so years. I'm 6 pounds above my college weight and I know that weight has some fat in it and soooooo, I'm on 500 cal a day for about three weeks or so. I'm not ready to take a bigger pill and so I'll see how it tracks with my sugar. THEN, i can get me some Jack ;)

Hate to say it, TJ but walking makes a huge difference in my sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure....So keep the bourbon and choose the walking....lol. But good luck!

Which is why I love that the FBI is involved. This stuff will all come out and be publically available. Something will HAVE to be done. They can't sweep this under the rug. It's already been exposed and this is the just the tip (just a second, just to see how it feels). I expect a lot more from a motivated FBI that needs a win after the Comey fiasco.

Walking will help. I haven't lifted for four years and need to get in the gym. I think that should happen after the ball season. In the meantime...physical work around the house is is where I get most. My cholesterol is fine..it just that I'm too sweet...contrary to some in this forum I'm sure.

I probably should try that and also listening to my doctor and taking my meds. I'm no longer 30! And I'm starting to feel old. We are much alike.

We'll see. Obviously the FBI has more teeth than the NCAA. The FBI will get theirs. They will bring things to light. But I highly doubt they are going to micromanage the NCAA and tell them which schools can participate in march madness. Outside of the individual criminal charges, it will be up to the NCAA to dole out punishments. Look at the Penn State scandal where, in the wake of a ugly federal investigation, the NCAA imposed sanctions on the program, only to let up once the publicity subsided. And there will be a LOT less public outrage over people getting paid than there was over child abuse.

This is true, but the NCAA must make moves, and I have to think that those moves will make things much better for PU, whatever they are.

The difference with Penn state is everybody involved with the investigation at the time it happened was dead or long gone. I agree that the NCAA handled it embarrassingly bad, and the death penalty absolutely should have happened. I say the same thing with Baylor. The thing is, there will be sanctions and coaches will be fired. It's already started with Louisville. Once the universities self sanction, it will likely be in the clear. However, Sean Miller, Bruce Pearl, and Patino should all be fired. Lifetime ban? Maybe for Pearl and Patino. Miller might get another shot as soon as it all blows over, but he will be on double secret probation.

the fbi was involved in similar cases before but apparently without a snitch or anyone truly caring , it continued as always.

I've done some minimal research. L'ville at least kinda wanted King ... we wanted him a lot ... he went to Oregon. Now, Nike totally suppoorts Oregon ... hmmmm ....

I've done a little more research ... the two recuits that L'ville lost recently went to KY and to Kansas ... just sayin' ... no reading between the lines allowed.

80 years in federal prison. There was a AAU coach that got pinched about 10 years and he got blackballed. He gave an interview recently and said they will be snitching. Had he knew what he knew today, he would have snitched then. Some of the crimes come with a 20 year max sentence. There are also a lot of people, including somebody not associated w coaching, but on the adidas side. He isn't going to jail for some coach. This is completely different than anything that has happened before. The FBI can subpoena and get statements under oath where lying is a federal offense. And then it all becomes public record. Some of these programs will be firing coaches so they don't have to deal with it. Rick made sense to fire because they were on probation. Miller may be the only one of the 4 coaches connected to an assistant coach that doesn't get fired (but he should be fired).

ya sounds like the linked article, and they mention the similarities

"At the heart of both cases were payments to top high school players from shoe companies (then Nike, now Adidas) and agents that were designed to steer them to favorable colleges before later getting them to sign with the same shoe companies, agents and financial planners when they reached the NBA.
Now he found himself seated, with a lawyer at his side, across a conference table from the FBI. "
