Everything DH2 related needs to be shown the door.
Boilerup is entrenched by now.we used to have GOLD !! BLACK !! kind of like tastes great, less filling
the purpose of a cheer or motto is supposed to be to fire up the crowd and the team. Boiler Up fires up nobody. Makes me think of a drunk student throwing up.

what I'm saying is it isn't working. None of it is working. none of those marketing plans have worked and our cheers are all lame and our teams and fans have suffered as a result. When I went to football games, there were 65,000 fans screaming GOLD BLACK. and we won a few games. Since Boiler UP and all these other slogans came along, we've been spiraling downward. How many times did the crowd cry boiler up during our last NCAA tournament game ? my point made. We cut the past with hazell. we need to cut the past with our LAME cheers. and rather than spending money to some marketing firm, give the job to our marketing students! KraMMIT Grad School is one of the best in the country. one could think our marketing grad students could come up with a new slogan and cheer. And Don't tell me it can't be done, or that's not the way we do things. Take some initiative. have a boycott. But GET rid of ALL of those lame cheers and slogans. Task Tomahawk frat to chop it up and the Reamers to run over them. (And yes, I think Row the boat is LAME too)
GO BIG BLUE with the band intro was probably the greatest cheer invented in the 70's. Unfortunately, that cheer was created by Michigan ! We need to put Purdue back on the map with a new millennium type cheer . like Go Go Pokémon Purdue ! ok, not that . but something.
Boiler Up was copied from Cowboy Up. we need something BAD ASS ! Something original. and something made by students not some Wall St marketing firm. Something original like those world soccer team cheers. and something simple so the IU fans can understand they are being dissed. and we need a drum line too!
it's time to leave the 80's and Barry Manilo and ABBA behind.
when I went to school they had 65,000 fans cheering a losing team with a student card section, and 5,000 participants in the Cary Quad Winter Oympics! Purdue fans have become wimps. Alabama, UW and Michigan and OSU and Packers fans have all those things too. And they sell out their games. Purdue fans today just find an excuse - any excuse not to attend the games. I'm not delusional. You're just lazy with other interests. I also checked ticket prices. it's cheaper and easier to buy a Purdue / Michigan ticket than it is to buy a Purdue / Missouri ticket. You tell me why ! Purdue fans have become as lame as their cheers, always looking for the cheap and easy way out. it's just an excuse. I'm not delusional. I'm passionate and disappointed with the current Purdue spirit. I saw the stadium crowd shots for the last 4 games. they were pathetic and even worse in the 4th quarter. people don't even stay to hear the band.
rather than calling out the student body, I blame the cheer. But essentially, I'm saying it's time to put your toys away, and go out and live.

I'm glad you're not a part of the athletic marketing team. Boiler Up has been entrenched in merchandise for years now. It works. Don't break what works. That's Cordova mentality you've got going on there, cowboy.
Actually when I saw the BTN special on Joe Tiller, I very well recall Arnette Tiller telling the story of how she approached the PU Athletic Marketing about the "BOILER UP!" idea (it was at Wyoming where they did "Cowboy Up!" when Joe coached there), and she emphatically stated that Purdue Marketing told her "Oh, that will NEVER work here!"
When I heard her say that I immediately thought "That sounds just like that bunch of KNOW-NOTHING DUMBSH!TS!"
me too.I do like Worlds Collide and Boiler Up. Other than preserving those two I'm open to new ideas.
It's universal...if you pass someone in an airport wearing Purdue gear, you say it. Simple and effective.Boiler up is awesome and isn't going anywhere. @Wolegib has no idea what he's talking about.
I really don't get what you guys have against boiler up. I can understand the makers all, 1234 firstdown/td... Literally leaving us with only Pur-Due.

I agree that "Boiler Up" is here to stay, and agree w/ ghostoffatjack that it's a nice little greeting when you see someone anywhere in the world flying the colors.
I couldn't say goodby quickly enough to:
* Hammer down [as a response to Boiler Up]
* Shout [lame attempt to emulate UW Jump Around]
Pretty much anything else I can live with, including uniform variants, names of pep rallies, etc.
Before Arnette Tiller invented Boiler Up, most people said "Go Boilers"....
It's not like we were starved for a quick airport greeting.
Well why we're naming lame "traditions", where does Shout fit in going forward? Now would be the opportune time to change it if we were ever going to do it.
This thread is interesting because some want new slogans and to do away with traditional things like Shout etc.. but whenever someone brings up new uniforms everyone screams for traditional and bashes the new ideas?
