You mean my old Christmas tree out in my dumpster?? The old tree with the Vegas gold and anthracite tinsel that even my garbage men are afraid to touch/pick up?? If I have to call down to Vegas Gold Dumpters Inc. corporate office and raise hell, I will!

Why don't you live in Touchdown Harbor? Maybe if you did, everyone in America would've been eating complimentary coconut shrimp last Tuesday.

Anyway, be sure to stop over the evening of Tue., Feb. 21 for our annual "Go Hawks Go" Fest! Always a great time, Roundy and the boys will be over; be like the rest of us and wear your Gold & Black!

Before Arnette Tiller invented Boiler Up, most people said "Go Boilers"....

It's not like we were starved for a quick airport greeting.

The whole point is Boiler Up is unique to Purdue. It's our Roll Tide. Certainly could be a lot worse. Go Boilers is as generic as it gets - you can insert anyone/thing into that saying. Like it or not, Boiler Up is not going anywhere.

I do like Worlds Collide and Boiler Up. Other than preserving those two I'm open to new ideas.
Me Three. Boiler Up is pretty unique. Shout has to go.

I completely forgot about the tombstones of teams we beat under Colletto. Hell, it might still be there - as we rarely beat anyone. Not hard to miss a couple tombstones. I also remember taking a tour of the weight room in Molenkopf and Colletto had a marker board that read "The games they remember are played in November" and "What have you done today to beat Indiana" That's because he sucked so bad, he was hoping beating IU would save his job. How dumb - like the rest of the season did not matter.

I'm not saying it's going anywhere. I'm saying it's kinda dumb when you think about it. It was taken from Wyoming where their mascot is a cowboy on a horse and just applied to Purdue without any thought/adjustment. Yeah, sure no one else says those exact words, but it's hardly unique in that way.

Michigan says Go Blue. Michigan State fans say Go Green or Go State or Sparty (shortened nickname, like Boilers). Indiana doesn't have anything unique. Illinois doesn't have anything unique. Iowa fans say Go Hawks (shortened nickname, like Boilers), Ohio State fans say Go Bucks (shortened nickname, like Boilers), etc.

Do I expect it go away? No, but to act like "Go Boilers" was some generic thing and we were all alone without having anything unique to say is pushing it a bit.

just to add my 2 cents into this, living out here in Eastern Pa. when I wear my Purdue stuff, I've had some people say "Boiler Up" to me and I think it's pretty cool.

Happens all the time when a random stranger (I assume another Purdue fan) sees me wearing Purdue gear here the north part of the state. I frankly have never heard anyone dislike "Boiler up" before this thread.

Again, not as if it's some campaign to get rid of it - I'm rather neutral on it, just pointing out that it wasn't necessary as has been mentioned and when you think about it, doesn't make much sense. But it doesn't need to go (I do think it's stupid the band says "Fire Up!" during the fight song, and not "Boiler Up!" - if you're going to use it, then use it!)

The furnace 100% needs to go and the 270 degrees pre-game thing - meh. Go back to Slayter.

in my case they weren't Purdue fans, just college football fans, couple would ask if I went there etc.

I think the term "fire up" or "lets get fired up" was widely used and quite popular in the late 90's. As a result, the 'customization" to Boiler Up made alot of sense and was a bit creative. It has created a strong foothold.....dont think it is great nor bad. Go Boilers or Lets go Boilers was just fine prior to Boiler Up. But again, the play on Fired Up was good.

Im with Ibodel. Get the band on slayter. And to the title of this thread, was the Furnace ever really a thing? i thought the band just disappeared on game days.

While this may be clear to you, just reiterating. The marching band during Hail Purdue inserts a "fire up" and has for years - and I simply do not understand why that still hasn't changed to "Boiler Up" instead.
