is he just here for 1 shot at the title?
Is there a reason to think otherwise?
I guess this new dynamic will play out, but seems bizarre to get a college freshman that's been playing professionally.
I don't mean from a talent perspective, though I'd be thrilled to have a lottery pick drop in for the season.
If he is, and he does, no hard feelings from me!
;)

I think he plays with Smith next season. He runs the show, the season after. And either leaves for the NBA or comes back one more year and leaves after his junior year. Most likely does two years and leaves though.

I say 2 years! He plays for a championship this year. And then becomes the featured player next year! I believe the same will be true of Jacobsen. Next year, We could potentially see the Purdue version of Stockton and Malone

Jacobsen’s dad is very interested in getting his son fast tracked to the pros. I could see Jacobsen splitting time this year with Cluff and Tkr playing both center and the 4 and then becoming the featured big man next year. If Jacobsen put up Tkr numbers next year, I could see him leaving early

All in takes is one team to show interest, that Illinois kid left, I’ll be honest, I wasn’t that impressed with him, likely a top 10 pick. Mayer if he shows well and is projected as a first rounder will be a 1 and done, my guess is we see him in West Lafayette 2 years.

Like most things in life, the answer lies with a "it depends". If those two (Mayer and DJ) continue to develop next year, help Purdue to a NC, then I would think they continue to develop and return for a follow-up shot at a FF and NC run. From there, it would just depend on their development and financial situation.

Everyone wants to go to the pros for the $$. But, they can obtain the $$ while at Purdue (or college) and their development progression moves them into national player discussions, then I could see them coming back beyond that. If DJ can develop into Zach and get the NPOY award a few times, that would only help his NBA prospects. He would need the "Smith" to help feed him so Mayer has a role there too.

I believe what players are starting to see is that a lot of Purdue players are finding their way to playing professional ball after leaving Purdue. They may not be heading to the NBA, but they are finding decent jobs playing basketball.

Look at Edwards and Tre. Look at Jones and Mathias! They are all making good money

How good of money are they making?

Euro players can make up to 3 mill, but most make 500k to a mill, which vs a normal job is good money.

Also, keep in mind, unlike NBA, Euro teams pay for the players to stay in Europe and pay for their room and board, ie free rent and a food stipend over the salary.
Thanks...do you know how much Mathias and the others are actually making?

Its been said by others, but in his interview, he said he wants to learn from then take over for Braden. But is there a one and done world? Sure if Mayer comes in, plays the 3rd guard role to amazing levels, scores, defends, shows his handles, shoots well from 3,, ect, on the way to the Boilers winning the title, then he stock goes up and he might test the 1st round waters.

But if he is telling the truth, and no reason to believe Mayer is not, he is here to learn from Painter and Braden and to become a better player for 3 or 4 years.

But who knows, the kid is highly regarded, might be a top international player in the NCAA

Their salaries are not public like the NBA and I do not know them personally.

A friend of mine was friends with a former Purdue big man in the 90's and even back then he was making 200k a year to play 5 months in Sweden if I remember correctly. Also a friend I played with in high school that went to MSU had a 10 year Euro career mainly in the 90's, he made decent money, but not the millions of the NBA

Its a decent living, but specific numbers will be hard to find.

Hard to say for sure at this point, but knowing Euro ball, it was an eye opener that he played at Maccabi already, very legit team and shows how talented the kid is.

I know nothing of the kids game, but reminds me of Ricky Rubio who was a lottery pick of Minny after playing for FC Barcelona for 3 years when he was 16-19. FC Barcelona was another legendary Euro program and Ricky was also a 6'4 PG.

I would take a player of Rubio's stature for sure.

I thought Mathias was in the gleague. If so, he's not making anywhere near $500k I dont think unless he gets some games with the NBA club.

Two things to consider:

1. Europe does not have anything close to the NCAA. If you don't go pro, you likely start your career outside of BB.
2. NIL is payments are greater in most cases than the European League pays.
