But this is ridiculous. We looked promising for a couple quarters but crapped the bed against a team we should of beat. Four wins will be a stretch .. this whole staff has to go.

Yeah I am a tad emotional and not thinking as logically as I should, but this is beyond unacceptable and we look like we are going to repeat next year .. or worse .. right now.

You're an idiot.

D played pretty well vs a dynamic offense.

Suspect play calling through the 2nd half put the pressure on a QB that's just not good in the pass game to make really though throws.

This team is a lot closer than you think. That said, into Shoop is gone we aren't going to be good

Haha, I'm the idiot? Whatever, you're an idiot for sucking down the kool aid. So save your personal attacks for when you have some foundation of credibility to stand on, today pretty much ruined that for you.

I've been hopeful that this team will turn it around, but today was more of the same from last year. If you're too blind to see it, that is your problem not mine.

Absolute moron over hyper troll.

This will work itself out one way or the other this season.

Right now, Hazell gone.

Something most of us wanted at the conclusion of last season. Progress yes but another bad 2nd half which is the normal with a Shoop Offense!

Yep. I would be pretty excited if it all turned around with this staff, simply because changing coaches isn't a easy thing to do and would happily eat crow if that happens. But right now, there is no evidence to show that will happen.

Tell me this, what was bad about the D? Was Hazell responsible for the good too?

Play calling lost us this game. Plain and simple. 2 throws behind the LOS with under 2 mins left? Running the ball steadily down the field only to throw (and throw deep) on 3rd and short?

No, this team is not elite but a winnable game was flushed down the toilet due to bad strategy...plain and simple. No way Shoop finishes the year. No way

.

if there is not a qb on the roster that can beat this guy out they sh0uld go to the intramural leagues and find one of 10 guys who can make the throws this guy can't

The D choked on the last scoring drive and was not without issue. And you are missing the point I've made all day that I AGREE that shoop is the main problem, but if CDH isn't going to get rid of him then that makes him a liability too then.

There most certainly were good things today however.

So why not just fire Shoop?

Hazell built this D too and it was pretty damn good today. Certainly good enough to win.
And I have said as much, but if CDH is not going to get rid of shoop then the only course of action is to get rid of the whole staff.
If we have another 4 win season that is most likely the outcome anyway. I truly, truly hope that things turn around as I have said many times, but right now it is hard to be optimistic.

I was optimistic like some on here and thought with a win today, Purdue could realistically look at potentially a 7-5 season with a low tier bowl game.

After seeing a team that had every chance to seize complete control after about as bad of a start to a game and season you can have, it just isn't there.

Very frustrated life long Boiler fan and I can really understand where a lot of fans are coming from and their reasons for bailing on the program. I stated a few weeks ago that if Purduse lost this game, there would be a stretch to see 20k next weekend and I'll stick to that. I have no doubt Purdue will throttle ISU next week but VT will inevitably control all aspects of the game and BGSU sea to be built very similar to Marshall. There now lies a very realistic shot that Purdue may end up with one or two wins this season, in my mind.

The issues I continue to see is too much horizontal movement instead of any vertical movement in the passing tree until it is completely obvious. There is no doubt Shoop is a very smart offensive mind but I can now fully say that I do not support John Shoop continuing as the OC.

There were mostly good things today, erased by probably the worst coordinator we've seen in 18 years.

If you're Hazell, you can't fire Shoop mid year. But, if you don't jettison him at some point as we circle the drain because of him, the HC should go too. D had 1 bad drive. I'm not going to crucify them as the effort to win was certainly there from them.

Fair enough and we actually agree. As I said in my opening post, I am more pissed than anything because I was beginning to get optimistic only to get kicked in the nuts.

Regardless, shoop needs to go.

4-20 as a head coach at Purdue. Any dumbass in the stands could have coached Purdue to as many wins.

The only reason we were in the game was because the D was awesome.

Run game was above average and good enough to beat some teams on the schedule by itself. The short to intermediate game was good at times too.

Issue was we went conservative 3 drives in a row on offense (and that last drive on D) and basically forced ourselves to have to drive to win.

I truly fell Hazell could be successful here. He won't sniff it as long as Shoop is here tho.

You would think somebody would tell Appleby he is second late on almost every throw

Yep, you aren't wrong. And I think we'll win next weekend but the two games after that will be tough. Hell looking at our schedule if things don't turn around it is conceivable that we may win until November against Illinois. I hope I am wrong, believe me ..

You can't read too much into season lid lifters.
The Boilermaker Special should start rolling (again) soon.

Teams that are still building will always struggle on the road late in the games. It was not surprising at all to see them give up the TD, but what was more concerning was simply not putting the game away far earlier against a struggling team.

Simply put, the team has to play much better at home and win tough games. Once they show they can do that then closing out games on the road will happen. In year three of the DH regime it is reasonable to expect this program to defend home field very well and with this schedule win 5 of 7 at home. We will know at the end of the non-conference schedule much better where we stand as we will have 2 tough home games to show how we respond.

Truly its just not a good team. QB is not even remotely a B10 player. Team is not football smart and hitting the QB out of bounds on 3rd down and handed them points. Purdue has zero downfield ability.

Or a QB coach. You would think that if any school would have a QB coach, it might be the cradle of QBs.

Tired of hearing about shoop. Hazell is knee deep in this offense too, he is going to sink or swim with shoop now.

This is Marshall
They moved the ball in spots at will.

But this is ridiculous. We looked promising for a couple quarters but crapped the bed against a team we should beat.

I'm confused. Marshall is a team you should beat because: (1) they went 13-1 last season and have a lot of players back, (2) they were favored by 7.5 playing at home, or (3) they made big plays down the stretch to ice the game like that final td drive and the pick 6?

You lost a close football game. You're upset. We've all been there. But don't let your butthurt cloud your judgment. Marshall is a good g5 program. Purdue played pretty well on the road, but lost to a better team. No shame in that. But don't take a dig at the Herd and diminish your team's performance in the process out of frustration. Peace, and hope you guys win out.

Give Hazel a chance. I follow Marshall and Ohio State closely. (My two schools and I go to many games for both.) Anyways, your kids played hard today. They simply didn't execute in key situations. Watching from the stands, Purdue controlled most of the game. You have a nice offensive line and a back who runs hard. You have pieces on defense. The D played well. What good is getting rid of Hazel after 3 years and going back to square one? I understand your frustration but let's see how the season plays out. You are definitely better than last year. I hope it translates into some wins.

Also, fwiw, Purdue has some very solid players, they are lacking at the skill positions (besides rb, of course). Likely the best o and d lines Marshall will see this season.

Solid players, played hard, like any team can do that! That's like giving every kid a trophy in grade school sports! Goal is to win I thought, getting tired of losing as everyone else is, something has to change

Glad to see your off the Purple Hazell Cool-Aid! Three seasons in no more the cupboard was left bare BS, the offense is really hard to learn for our 'tarded kids to learn, we need to change the culture, etc. HE is responsible for the majority of the players on the field, and the staff under him and the play calling and crucial decisions being made ... HE OWNS THIS MESS.

Sorry 13-1 doesn't impress me CUSA. Wouldn't finish .500 in B10 and we should have easily won going away. We have a lot to to be upset about. We will never take a moral victory against an inferior opponent. Truly a devastating loss for the program.

I've seen a lot of Purdue football in the last 28 years, and there are not that many games I can recall where opponents scored 41+ and I ever thought the D played well.
