If Brohm turns down Purdue and Fleck is off the table, name some OC/DC's to look at...

1: Major Applewhite (OC Houston): He won't be brought to UT due to a past issue and with Lane Kiffin appearing to secure the Houston job, Applewhite will be looking. Have to go with history and that Houston has churned out some damn good coaches over the past decade.

2: Lincoln Riley (OC Oklahoma): Young and one of the best offensive minds in the country.

3: Bud Foster (DC Virginia Tech): Give him the resources to grab a damn good OC like Applewhite and this could be the way to go. This now becomes my preferred coaching setup with Brohm and Fleck appearing to turn their backs. Foster is the best DC in the country and bringing in a mind like Applewhite and allowing him freedom on the offensive side could prove to be the necessary mixture Purdue needs.

If it's not Fleck or Brohm I won't care. I will watch and give whoever it is a chance to prove himself and improve the team but I will stay in wait and see mode.

If these HC at non P5 won't take it, these OC/DC will just wait it out as well. If you are <40 and take Purdue it has risks of being career killer.

These threads might be a few days early. If Monday passes and no news, then we can worry. But with our recent history maybe the sky is falling...

If you're going to go with a DC type guy, go with the one who knows everything about Purdue in and out. Probably the only person in the country who has aspired to run this program for his entire life.

This is stupid. A five year guaranteed $3,000,000 per year contract would be a life changer for 90% of coaches. Even if they never coached again they are set for life. Does anyone honestly thinks The Haze regrets taking this job? Some of you on this board should think before you type.

has Calhoun signed with anyone? He was our 3rd option I thought
Not at this point but many have pointed to his heavy history of triple option based offenses outside of his NFL experience. Although most believe he would do a good job, it wouldn't be the immediate energy the program truly needs to get it turned around quickly. I think with Calhoun, he would eventually get the job done but in a fashion much similar to Wilson than Tiller.

A lot of it with guys is ego. DH will never get a shot again at HC, but these guys all want and strive for a career like Saban. Once you have hit the top of the mountain, it is hard to go back as an assistant.

What's Rob Marve up to these days? I feel like he always inspired for greater things..

Regarding the triple option. Its a great offense if you are the ONLY one in a conference running it. Teams have a very difficult time practicing for it in the limited hours allowed for practice in today's college football. That's why the academies use it. Smaller quick linemen. Lot's of motion and faking. Great for teams with marginal (read OUR) talent. I know about the "cradle of QBs", but I'd rather be a winning team with a mobile QB than a losing team with a great pocket passer.

I'd love Calhoun but he's at where he played, he's loved by the community, and he's been there a while... Why Purdue?

Maybe the more negative we can be, the more the administration will take it serious, finally. This is the main Purdue sports forum...they've got to have someone reading it.....

Indeed. Too many people talk about the "history". Just win, any way, any fashion. Just win. If the QB has 140 rushing and 82 passing and wins 6-3, so be it. Go 11-1 with the same formula, heck yes. Win a major bowl game with the same formula, bye bye coach. I want Calhoun as well.

Just personal preference but I have no interest in option football even if it is successful.

Disagree completely. I watch football to be entertained. A 6-3 option fest would put me to sleep.

Agreed. And I think if Purdhe goes 3 they might as well go 2 million base and 2 million bonus. A substantial game by game big ten bounty bonus is needed. That will make a coach optimistic real quick. I say do a 2 million dollar bonus multiplied and paid out by the percent of big ten games you win regular season with a million dollar bonus for a big ten title. It can't be a blank check. If it's gonna be a blank check at least find a guy motivated by money and tag on the added bonus.
