I work in Wisconsin, here’s what I’ve heard about this years badgers team from hardcore fans

> Worst OL since Alvarez came to town
> mertz is a massive disappointment
> the defense blows

There have been a bunch of other expletives thrown in there… not sure if this helps anyone think that we will break our longest losing streak, but I don’t think I’m bias in saying that this probably is the worst Wisconsin team we will face during the streak (03-present).

I have now elevated my potential high point to 9-3. I know that might be shocking and make some people laugh, but here’s what I’m seeing .. tell me if I’m wrong.

I see a team that is forming together as what would already be a pretty darn good football team if karlaftis and bell were only “really good” .. when what karlaftis and bell are is actually matchup nightmares at the college level, the best players at their position independent of surrounding talent IN AMERICA and players that I believe would more than hold their own as starters RIGHT NOW if they played today.

Add that together with the fact that a lot of our opponents are not handling their business the best and I’ve reset my prediction (a la espn win percentage lol) to 7-5 (which just requires 3-3 against what looks like a meh schedule) with 9-3 a possibility If the team catches fire.

we will know pretty quickly next Saturday if yesterday was a fluke, and I’m not saying we will play like we did yesterday Each week. But if I think I’m accurate in assessing this team, I see them coming out and just looking like the better football team against Wisconsin.

PS my prediction yesterday was 27-17 boilers .. so maybe the optimism isn’t that crazy

You and I go back and forth in disagreement on a lot of things but I’m right there with you on 9-3 being a possibility. Probably not likely but definitely not unrealistic. What’s really fun to me is playing the what if game even though it doesn’t matter. What if we had this game against Notre Dame and had laid the wood on them? We would be rolling right now I think. For as disappointing as the Minnesota game was and the 2 weeks following I’m really really enjoying the season now. We’re 4-2, looking like a solid team and like we’re putting things together. Regardless of how the rest of the season goes (barring total collapse) I will enjoy the ride. And I’ll be at the Wisconsin game doing my part to cheer on our Boilers

Beat Wisconsin relatively convincingly and squeak into the Top 25 after. Get both of those monkeys off our back in one week

I think of brohm and I think of a lot of coaches and I go back to frank Beamer.. whose early tenure was a lot like brohm and I’m sure fans wanted him fired.

my point? When brohm can build it to the point where he has a similar team but with a nice OL and a more explosive back.. we will beat Notre dame at Notre dame and it won’t be a fluke

I like what you say. I can see 3-3 from here on out. Hope both the coaches and team don’t have the letdown that Iowa just had coming off an emotional high.
As another poster profoundly put it, “This team was in diapers or young toddlers the last time Purdue beat Wisconsin”. Let that sink in for a moment!
Beat Wisconsin!!! Get the job done.

I don’t see next week as an opportunity for a “letdown“ for Iowa, I can see why they had the potential for a letdown, because they came out of a “High Point“ were they “thought they had arrived“.

I don’t think we are at that point and probably would never get to that point this year. I think instead we are “on an upward trajectory but not even in the middle of it so I don’t think we have that to worry about

That is what I said I was expecting about now with the program after what happened during the first two years with Brohm. So now you agree?

I would disagree with their fans about the defense, it doesn’t blow. They have a very good defense. However, we’ll move the ball just fine against them.

True, hearing an unusual amount of complaints around the Milwaukee area about this season.
Paul Chryst and Jim Leonhard are not bad coaches. Not sure what all transpired, but it doesn’t help when two FR RB’s are literally trying to kill each other with one being dismissed from the team and the other faced suspension. That was August news. This past week they converted a LB to RB so there are internal issues. I’m sure they’ll fix their issues, but hopefully that is after we beat them.

I don’t expect 9-3. I think 7-5 is very doable but I wouldn’t even expect that. Next year my expectations will go up because brohm really has two things to fix this offseason

1) the OL
2) we will go from a team full of guys who are very good FOR A TEAM THAT PLAYS WITH KARLAFTIS AND BELL to a team that needs to be good without having a cheat code matchup on both sides of the ball

next year I think 7-5 should be expected. 9-3? You’re dreaming

Let me quote you from your post that started the thread, "with 9-3 a possibility," so were you dreaming?

Are you the kind of guy who reads “with a possibility” and “it should be expected” and thinks “yeah those two phrases essentially mean the same thing.”

Mind you I believe you often play two wins above and below what you are. A 7-5 team will have moments where they look like a 9-3 team but then shit happens and you end up 7-5.

could be another monsoon. Could be where Wisconsin or Michigan state are allowed to blatantly hold our receivers .. won’t know till it happens

Dude, that’s kind of a schizo take after you were saying you couldn’t see Purdue better than 5-7 (EVER) this season. You thought I was too “exuberant” thinking Purdue would end up 8-5 with a bowl win. With this win 8-5 is definitely doable and so is 9-4 with a bowl loss. If we are 9-3, we’ll end up playing a very good team in a bowl. Depends on the match-up.

I saw one today with Purdue vs Kentucky in the Outback Bowl on NYD. I actually like that matchup for Brohm and Purdue.

Hey, hey, hey…let’s enjoy the win and not forum fight. Save that for ugly losses! LOL 😂

I have already told you you were Righr and I was wrong

my take was always that this team had too many questions to answer in one off-season to be 7-5. Hey sometimes a group of coaches and players Execute big things in an off-season and season and come up with all the answers .. that’s what they did.

they and you deserve a hats off.

I do think you erroneously threw me in with people like @DAG10 when I argue with him more than the biggest homers.

look.. when we left the Minnesota game and Our OL looks like a season long embarrassment that’s the only thing holding this team back … and in two weeks they come out and look competent against an Iowa team whose problem is definitely NOT their DL and linebackers … there’s a bunch of people in that facility making a big time commitment boy. Win lose or draw that deserves our respect

He was telling me post Minnesota that he expected 9-3 by now. I don’t think there’s but a handful of big ten programs that should expect that without an absolute cupcake preseason …. And even then…

It would only be fitting to beat the No.2 out of Wisconsin the year Barry Alvarez retired
