I feel much better after the collapse at the end of the Nevada game and rough start this game. Today is more in line with what I expected.

Concerns. Without Neal, our DL gets almost no push without mixing up blitzes. Vaughn had a solid game until they got behind and just started throwing it. Not to mention the screens were just as affective as a run.

Zero running game. The Oline gave Sindelar time, but zero push on the runs. Cant afford any long term injuries on the OL, and OL definitely is missing some nasty. Hopefully the ‘19 and ‘20 class can bring that in for the future. But that does us no good this year. One more piece of the lingering Haze effect.

Vandy was not a well disciplined team and killed several drives with penalties. They could have won that game but they were sloppy. It is good that Purdue played with much fewer mistakes.

Defense isn’t as good as I was hoping by this point. They are bend not break, which is alright when the offense is clicking. Not sure how that works as the offenses they face improve.

Positives: Sindelar is over 900 yards in 2 games with 9 touchdowns. That is very good, even with three interceptions. Bell is going to be a monster and has been fantastic. Hopefully he isn’t good to go for the next game.

Finally got a turnover!

Rondale has a Heisman type game. That’s a really good thing.

I don't think there is any way we make a bowl unless we get a running game. One dimensional teams usually don't survive with a defense like we have now. Geezus, if we could at least rush for a 100 yds a game.....

Liked that Purdue used two TE’s a lot, kept our QB in the pocket and had him taking snaps under center as he set up well dropping back to pass. Played a lot of the younger wideouts, Sindelar stepped up so did Rondale, King George and Bailey.

Disliked that we cannot run block, our younger RB’s are not ready to play a lot. Our corners wore down.

Hated the late QB draw call with with the game decided, punter really struggled and our left guard really struggles on pulling , screens and downfield blocks.

Any word on Sindelar from the injury tent? Looked like he took a blow to his head. What about McCann? Lets hope Fuller is ready by MN following the bye week.

I'm worried that Nevada is down 63-6 in the 3rd quarter....I hope our defense gets better

Let's get realistic. The game is at Oregon, who lost a tough game last week to Auburn. Oregon is in a different class talent wise than Purdue right now, especially on the lines. I didn't expect Nevada to be in this game. Comparing this game to last week is like saying because we beat Ohio St by 20+ last year, Ohio State was going to lose to Michigan badly. That didn't happen.

I hate those designated QB run calls and the pushes to Elijah from behind on the TD. Yes, we scored, but all it takes is one shot to his knees, and he is out the rest of the season.

I still say Worship is such a big loss. He could be such a big asset to us on those plays we need 1 - 3 yards. We have heard absolutely no news on Worship. I am going to say that there is a chance he doesn’t ever come back?

It was great to get a win, especially at home. It takes a little pressure off the team. We did not want to start out this season like last year.

For the defense, our secondary is a little nicked up right now, but they are playing through it. Karlaftis played another great game. It is hard to believe that it is only his second game. Jones helped more from the other side this time, but no pressure up the middle without using our LBs. Our DT are getting no push. Bailey had a great game too. Yanni was at the game, so I hope he could see himself as a Boiler!

Rondale was Rondale. There is not more you can say. The one thing that Vanderbilt did in the second half was they went more to man coverage, which of course opened Rondale up. He also got a great block from the official on the TD catch. Loved that play. I did say in another post yesterday that Bell was also only getting 1 on 1 coverage. That could have been exploited too. Even the announcers were talking about this a couple of times that we could have used that advantage, but Sindelar never looked or realized that. Hopefully, the watching of the film will be used this week to see that for the future. Hopkins had another great game. I did not realize that he has been sick since the Nevada game. Wow, what he can do when he gets to be 100%.

Part of the run problems could be the line, but it is not all. I believe King is overwhelmed right now, and Horvath is going to find it hard to find yards against Big Ten defenses. Could we use Hewitt? We definitely really miss Tario and Richie. Tirek can not get here fast enough for next year. Maliq was supposed to be at the game. If he was, he had to love how we use our passing game, and he should be able to see how we could use his size and skill in our offense I hope he enjoyed his unofficial visit, and I think he is taking another official visit for TCU. We had to be in great shape with him, but I am not going to jinx it, so I will say no more.

Special teams has nothing special about it right now. Let's be honest, Dillinger longest career FG is around 40 yards. If we have situations, where we have a FG over 40 or going for it on 4th down, we are probably (and should) are going to go for it. Rondale had his player beat on that punt return. Why we held, I don't know what to say. Our punting yesterday was horrible. It could not have been the wind, because I believe it was very minimal yesterday. We punted like what you would expect from IU's punters. Enough said there.

We have a prime time matchup with TCU. Let's take the good things from yesterday and keep improving on the less than good things and get a win next week! We are off the next week, so a win would be great way to go into our game to start the Big Ten season with Minnesota. It will also allow some of our players to get a chance to get healthy. Let's keep it up Boilers!!

Obviously offensive line play needs to be better but I will say they did a lot better pass blocking vs Vanderbilt. It’s the run blocking that is bad. Just can’t get any push. Couple that with our running back issues and it’s a bad recipe.
I know they gave up a lot of yards yesterday and 4th quarter vs Nevada but I do think Major and Mackey have done a decent job on their guys and I think they will be better options than Cason and Blackmon last year. My problem is apparently there is no depth at the position because I don’t think I’ve seen them off the field yet and they both played through injuries yesterday.
I’m really liking Barnes and Karlaftis on the ends.
I know Sindelar can be a little shaky in pressure situations and he got lucky he didn’t get picked off a couple more times but 509 yards and 6 total TDs, I’d say he did his part.
Of course Rondale Moore. How can you not like the Heisman type numbers from yesterday. Always a threat to do something. Extremely glad he’s at Purdue
Other positives would be the other receivers. Glad to see Bell get more production. He’s going to keep getting better.

Just an opinion, but giving Horvath the ball deep behind line doesn't help. I also think when Horvath runs with shoulders lower, he is a lot harder to bring down and gets a few more yards.

Anderson looks to be quite a playmaker too. Lost in the schuffle yesterday, was the Sullivan kid's 2 knock downs of passes on their last drive. Hopefully the start of something there and a chance at more PT.

I disagree with everyone here about the running game. Pretty obvious that vandys gameplan was to stop the run... and they never adjusted off of it.

I would have been extremely concerned if they adjusted their backers to be wider and deeper and we couldn’t just go 5-on-5 and run. To me, the only team that’s gonna have a chance to go 5 on 5 and shut us down is Penn State.

....they're going to see teams very shortly that will shut the pass down and force Purdue to run the ball. Purdue can't win running and then Sindelar will start to force throws into coverage...not a good scenario. Either a run game gets developed fast or we're looking at a 5, maybe 6 win season.

This team has 2 major deficiencies: running the ball and defending the spread passing game. Running the ball better would help alleviate the issues with the defense late in games.

What I did like was more liberal subbing on the DL. Nice to see Jack Sullivan play and play well. I wasn't sure who #99 was when he made his first play. Good to see Cam Allen in there too. What was with the number switch though? He didn't play last week did he? And someone in the stands thought Grant changed his number but I didn't see it or him to confirm.

As far as the secondary is concerned, when I watched the BTN Tailgate show on DVR this morning, they had talked about the injuries to Major, Mackey and Mosely, with concerns that any or all of them might not play. But as far as I could tell, M & M didn't miss any plays. Sometimes it's hard to see if 27 or 29 are in there depending on where you sit so I'm not sure what their situation is.
