I'm somewhere between #2 and #3. I'd really like to see us win but getting punched in the mouth may not be the worst thing in the world for this team.
Ditto— I want to see Purdue be able to successfully adjust and adapt when things aren’t going our way…

Not sure how that manifests itself if we lose, but I just want us to avoid coming unglued if for example Zach picks up multiple fouls early in the half —- how well does our purported depth react?

I Really REALLY, want to beat the Zags for a second year in a row. I’ve heard/seen multiple people say/post that beating TN would be much more questionable but my gut says we’d fair pretty well against them and I’d like to see how we do against Kansas. Interested to see what kind of game Dickinson would have, Not likely a 27 & 20 game. Honestly I’d also rather win so we don’t have to play UCLA and/or Syracuse and chance losing a game to them when we shouldn’t. It to me is more about who we’d play against the rest of the tournament. No I wouldn’t freak out but want to see at minimum a competitive game.

I want us to win for the resume. B1G is not going to give us any marquee wins and in fact could give us some bad losses. Need as many of these preconference games as possible. Gonzaga, as usual, will win a bunch of games and a W will look good in March. It also allows us to play a very good TN team and another great resume game.

Purdue is predicted to win. We should always win the games we are predicted to win. Our seeding in the big dance is determined by our early season victories. Ratings are set by early season victories. The rankings are more forgiving of late season losses. Once a team starts out as a top 10 team, they tend to keep that rating. Rather than starting out slow and improving later in the year.

Ask yourself two questions 1. Have painter teams ever really improved very much as the season progressed? 2. In the tourney and Purdue plays in a 6 vs 3 or 7 vs 2 game, Would you rather Purdue be the lower seed And play in an arena more favorable to the other team? Or would you rather Purdue be the higher seed and play in an arena more favorable to Purdue? Ask yourself if Purdue were to play Kansas or Duke would you want those games to be played in Kansas or North Carolina?

Some teams relish the concept of being the underdog. And play very well on the road. Purdue doesn’t seem to be one of those types of teams.

Zach has played a lot of games and I don't think has ever fouled out and only a handful of games maybe played with 4. Naturally, if he got in foul trouble it not only would be very unusual, but would require the collective to do a bit more. FWIW, I don't think Purdue has played well...yet. I think they have played so-so or okay. It will be interesting to see with tougher competition who can still score, and how much Purdue still turns to Zach to stay in front.

1. Yes 2. Better seed in more favorable arena aka Indy area.

I would want to play KU and UNC or Duke at their places to see how we measure up and to get the team experience playing against the best teams in tough conditions…cuz we won’t be getting that in the B1G this year (so it seems). To be the best you need to beat the best—not saying we would, but would love for the team and painter to have the opportunity.

When has Purdue not done well on the road?

It will be interesting to see if we get the best version of Zach against Gonzaga, and in this tournament in general. Xavier was the first team that didn’t completely sell out to take Zach away and I thought he was just OK an offense, and on the boards. I did think he was getting fouled almost every time down the court as the defenders tried to keep him from an establishing deep position, but I’m not sure how often he’ll get those calls.

His first half and second half results were quite different if I recall correctly and it was the second half Purdue looked to Zach a bit more I believe. I have an appointment today that should allow me to be home 30 minutes before the game. I'll be sick if I don't make it...

Good call out. You're correct, Zach played 17 minutes in the second half and went 6-10 from the field and 8-9 from the line with six rebounds and a block. I'm greedy and want Zach to make all his high percentage shots, but that's a damn good half. He wasn't nearly as efficient in the first half, going 3-7 from the floor.

Good luck on your appointment ending on time. I actually like to start watching the game a little bit after the actual start time, it allows me to fast forward through commercials or when I get frustrated with team performance :)

I chose option 1 as that was clearly the most fun. I'm just glad this tournament isn't in March and we aren't playing a double-digit seed. Hopefully Gonzaga doesn't press and isn't athletic.

Did I cover all the bases?
LAMO.

You know what my favorite play was in the Xavier game was? It was toward the end of the game when we broke the press and threw it right to Zach for the rim rocking slam. We need to do that every time someone presses until their spirit is crushed.

my comment about kansas and duke was about the tourney not the regular season. would you want to play duke in north carolina in the tourney / or play Kansas at kansas city in the tourney?

as for winning on the road, the tourney is not played at mackey. Purdue has been terrible on the road in the tourney.

that's why if purdue is in a 3vs 6 ngame or a 2 vs 7 game in the tourney, it would be better for purdue to be the higher seed and have a more favorable location to play.

and that's why we need to win games against Gonzaga in the preseason to get that #2 or #3 seed. I don't like our chances in the tourney if we are the #6 seed playing a #3 seed. or a #5 sed playing a #4 seed. to have any success in the tourney, we need to win as many of these early games as possible, rather than experimenting with lineups, and saving our team for the second half of this season.

there are some teams that experiment early or get off to a slow start. those teams usually have a new coach who is adjusting to new players, or they have a one and done who hasn't stepped up yet, or they have a player who mid season elevates his game to an entirely new level Purdue saw that with Carsen. Marquestte saw that with Dwayne Wade.

looking at Purdue, this is sort of a veteran team with basically 4 of 5 starters returning. I can't see where they would actually be much better than they currently are. a loss to gonzaga would result in a loss in the ratings which would result in a lower seed. Because we're sure not going to get any quality "meaningful" wins against big 10 teams that would boost our seed at the end of the year. What I'm saying is that we will win those big 10 games, but our wins won't really help our rating. we need to win now.

Found this interesting as it relates to the game and Braden’s potential connection to Gonzaga.

Tennessee is still good defensively.

I don't see how they would guard Edey.

Their defense looks better because Syracuse doesn't appear to have an idea of what to do on offense outside of drive to the hoop.

Offense is something that doesn't come easy for the Vols

If we're really #2, then we should take these guys fairly easily. I get that they're ranked 11th, but it appears on paper they shouldn't be as good as last year. I also like the fact we've played at Arkansas and a good Xavier team. I dont think the Zags have played anyone yet.

yes, posted in the past that Gonzaga started showing interest when he committed to Purdue. It was in response to some saying no good program had shown interest.
If that is the case, it causes me to lose some respect for Few. This isn’t football. Leave the committed kids alone.
