How Long Until Sisley De-Commits?

The names and faces have changed, but the story remains the same.

IU has no choice. They have to replace Woody. I always felt he was a class act who represented the university well. It's a shame that his legacy will be that the finacial and other support he received was the envy of any other program, but he failed so badly the fans were literally screaming for him to be fired.

From hero to zero.
What's funny is... under a Knight coached IU team, those players probably would not even been dressed in uniform after half time, & definitely would not have played. Woody not only let them play, but played the entire second half. There is no dicipline on that team. How someone could chose IU over Purdue when the could come in and play a key role is beyond me. Like others said, they aren't a Purdue fit if that is there thinking.

Remind me of the Travis Perry commitment to Kentucky before Cal left - you just knew it didn't matter, he wanted to play for Kentucky regardless of the coach. I tend to think Sisley stays unless the new coach doesn't honor his scholarship, which would basically nuke in state recruiting. Only reason I see him backing off the commitment, overall toxicity of the fan base. Rag on IU all you want but that is tough to see fans actively booing you at home. If you are a parent talking to your kid, you might keep that in mind.

I don't know what the solution is for IU on the coaching front. I felt like having Fife and Matta being on staff set him up for success to handover the team in 2-3 years after reviving the team. Then came the exodus, not sure the true story behind either leaving, and now he has surrounded himself with yes men.

I don't think it is an easy answer to fix the program especially when you hit the restart button every 3-4 years.
Best way to not get boo'd is to actually put forth some effort. I mean the crowd tried their best to hype the team while down 20 but the players just didn't care. Players and coach don't care, why should the fans?

This is what you get when you buy an entire team. This forum brought that up quite a few times before the season started and it looks like it has all come true... quicker than I thought, but true regardless.

Well, that's what you get when you buy a team,......and have on his best day, an average coach.

This is shocking. If a Purdue, Illinois, MSU or many other school's player put forth so little effort, they'd be sitting their ass on the bench the rest of the game.

How do you fix that though? I honestly think what has happened the past couple of coaching cycles might deter other names from coming. You could be committing career suicide.

Get a coach with a backbone. Archie was just in way over his head. But even Creans first 3 years of teams put in more effort. They just weren't good. Those teams were absolutely awful but they put in some effort. It comes from the top. Woodson sleep walks everywhere he goes. Players follow suit.

It's the coach, not the method.

You don't have to look any further than the team that just beat them by 30. Illinois turned over their entire roster except for a couple and look how good they are. "buying" an entire team is not automatically a bad thing. If done correctly it can be successful.

I get the frustration and being over the Woodson experiment, but damn I couldn’t imagine my own student section chanting for a coach that was also a legendary player to be fired.
Other than dusty banners and a bunch of old windbags telling stories of the glory days, what makes Woodson a legend to the students? He left IU as a player 35 years ago.

How long have they changed coaches every 4-5 years (and counting) now? How they can recruit anything above a 3 star is beyond me.
They do have a huge and rabid fan base. I’ll never forget 17,000+ showing up for Creans horrific 2008-2010 teams… and of course they have B1G money/facilities…

Students and fans who weren’t even born when he was a player sure as hell like to reference the programs accomplishments from that era.

Well he's an IU legend. So that just makes him a legend. Kinda how it works. I mean I wasn't alive when George Washington was around but I'd consider him to be an American legend.

Sure. New coaches can bring success in basketball a lot easier than in football. IU is doing something wrong in their basketball coaching search though because it's been awhile since they've gotten a good one.
Exactly. But Dolson has shown that he can get it right with Cignetti, and unlike with basketball, that was truly working with a severe disadvantage.

However, basketball passion and top financial resources or not, until IU gets it right it will continue to be a 4 year-ish carousel of mediocrity or worse.

As for Sisley, he and his family are born and raised IU fans. The one way that is 100% guaranteed to see him de-commit is to retain Woodson. The good news for IU is that there is a 0% chance of that happening. He may open his recruitment anyway, but in basketball a rebuild can happen quickly and I would expect that Sisley will give the new IU staff a fair and close listen.

Is he a Colin Hartman type or Robbie Hummel??
Odds on the former as Hummel was so so special.
I agree. As I understand it, Painter shows video to recruits of past Purdue stars, andtells them that he envisions using them the same way. If he sees Sisely as a stretch forward, I expect Painter showed him video of Hummel and Vince Edwards.

Well Glass went behind everyone's back and hired Archie. Buckner wanted Woodson then. Then if course Archie is fired and it hire Woodson. Then it's Woody gets 4 years because Archie did. Unfortunately, morons have ran the program into the ground. Crean was okay. Probably could have succeeded at IU with NIL. Sampson was problematic at the time... On things that are of course legal now. Sampson would have absolutely killed it at IU. Who runs the show is incredibly important. But they've really screwed the pooch the last two times.
Correct me if I'm wrong. The master plan involved the 3-headed monster for head coach. Woodson was the grizzled school hero with decades of NBA experience. Matta was the championship winning college coach with expertise in recruiting. And Fife was the young rising star with excellent recruiting skills and championship rings. The plan quickly disintegrated. The only thing that hasn't completely failed is recruiting. IU still gets top talent in the B2G.

The fatal flaw was it should have been a 7-headed monster, with Alford, Dakich, Pat Knight, and Keith Smart added into the mix.

Damn they teach kids about Mike Woodson in history class? Or is that just in Bloomington school systems?

Obviously at this point, if you have a chance to come to Purdue and you'd rather go play for Woodson at IU, I'd say #1, you're not very intelligent and #2 you're likely not a Purdue type guy anyway.
Could it be about NIL money guarantees?
