Hot rumor: Schiano to Oregon

Looks like it's Purdue or bust for he Fleckster.

Not a lot of other jobs out there and Houston and Baylor are not as attractive as most think. Baylor still stinks and has an uncertain P5 future. Fleck is going to go to Houston...who won't pay as much as we will, aren't P5 and are a flash in the pan as far as sustained success.

I think we are getting our man.

Or, he doesn't leave WMU. I'm not 100% sure he'd even take the PUR job, or Baylor or Houston.

Maybe he just stays at WMU, continues to win, and waits for something bigger and better that he really wants.

If he stays at WMU he is losing his star QB and WR I don't think he can do much more there, then this season.

The thing with this wait is it also gives WMU some time to round up some dough. I have read rumors of $2 mil. We can pay more but $2 mil would be easier up in Kalamazoo. He could go 6-6 and run for mayor.

I am not a fan of the waiting game. Unless it's all wrapped up privately. If there is still negotiations going on at this point, it's for stalling or waiting for a better offer.

IMO the Houston job leaves Fleck a much better chance of long-term success as a P5 coach. More talented roster, better recruting area and look at previous coaches from Houston who went on to better jobs. Purdue most recent coaches not so much. If looking at it objectively I'd take Houston job before Purdue job

The thing is we have no idea. I'm hopeful because it's been so quiet - and the Griffiths and Kravitz reports last week - that we do have Fleck wrapped up but are allowing the announcement to wait until this weekend at Fleck's request.

Kravitz is standing behind his statement but added if he's wrong, he will admit it.

I would LOVE to see a modern day journalist admit when they are wrong. Kravitz would definitely be in the minority if this occurred. It is too bad Congress couldn't reign some of this blatant lack of integrity through journalistic laws, but not sure it would get through the portion of the Constitution that protects Freedom of the Press and Freedom of Speech. Would make a great debate topic if I taught AP U.S. History though

Well, with Kravitz he's always been more of a columnist, so usually the stuff he writes is opinion. I don't read him because I usually don't agree with him and he comes off as a bitter troll. But the occasional times he does play journalist and breaks new, he is usually right.

People keep lambasting him for deflate gate as he's the one that broke it, but despite what you think about deflate gate, he was right on the deflated footballs. So kind of silly to use something that he was right on as a reason to discredit him this time (seen a fair amount of that on twitter, I have an addiction :( ).

If Schiano, Miles, Fleck, Brohm, Calhoun, Rhule, etc. sign anywhere but Purdue then obviously we screwed the pooch. Bobinski should have signed every single one of them to contracts last week. This is very, very bad news.

Who is to say he hasn't already? Flight Aware was blocked last week and those coaches are all in games this week except Schiano and Miles. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if the coach was named Sunday at 11 after a team meeting at 10am and an hour before the 'final' CFP rankings are released at 12.

Maybe he has. But which one gets the HC title? My guess is Miles based on seniority and the ring.

HC: Miles
OC: Brohm
DC: Schiano
QB: Calhoun
WR: Fleck
DL: Rhule

Of course Fleck and Rhule might need "associate head coach" titles to keep them happy..

I get the Kravitz hate on here but bottom line any prominent journalist can't just make stuff up for the sake of it. Somebody told Kravitz what he reported. It may be wrong in the long run but I doubt it was a lie. I think people in the know thought we had Fleck wrapped up last week. We still might. Or he may be waiting to see what Oregon does.

Highly disagree. It's not a P5 job itself and they likely won't pay an incoming coach that well until he gets results. They likely won't get a P5 bump and you have to run the table to get a good bowl. Obviously that's not the case in the P5. I think Houston is probably a better gig than Baylor right now but I don't think that's saying much.

I'm not totally convinced that Houston won't eventually be picked up by the Big XII though. Don't actually know whether that would help of hurt Houston in the long run.

After reading Houston's response to Herman being poached from them for Texas, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Texas pushed the others to refrain from expansion so they could hire Herman this season as expanding probably would have made that move difficult as Herman would have stood to be paid among the highest in the country at a place he seemed to truly enjoy being at.

I think now that Texas has 'their' coach, I wouldn't be surprised to see Big 12 expansion to 12 teams for 6 team divisions (Cinncy, Houston, UCONN, and USF/UCF are the most likely candidates IMO).

But wasn't Texas the one that was very vocal about wanting to add Houston?

Re Texas appeal,
A random national sports radio/big12 beat guy was talking about how behind or average some of their facilities/infrastructure really were there, counter to basic assumption.

Other midpack big12, sec schools in the south had pumped in major dollars in recent years to compete, while UT grew increasingly complacent during m.brown years. His final team had zero players even drafted

Guess that would coincide with what he said about them, and finally feeling the heat and willing to pull all the stops
