Hate This Recruiting Trend: IpUke Up & Purdue Flat

No but if the current trend continues I predict a large swath of the country will lose sight of the sun on Aug 21.
Current trend? I'd be willing to bet we have a better chance of going further in the tourney this year, than we did last year......that's the only trend I care about today, the rest will work itself out in due time.

Maybe some of these SF guys know of a guy that plays in the spot at PU? Maybe they think like I do and feel he is going to eat major Min. Over the next few years. Yes, Aaron Wheeler is a better version than ether of the guys IU go today.
This! They were all seeing Wheeler taking most of the minutes.

Same old song and dance, every 5-7 years IU gets a new coach to bring them back to blue blood status. Indiana kids say hey we like this bring IU back pitch. Should be fully expected , just as in 5-7 years now it will be rinse repeat
I think you will find out that you are underselling Coach Miller

We'll see. My personal projection is that IU will see less volatility than Crean with Miller as coach and make the tournament almost every year. I don't see his teams having the same upside as Crean's did either because you never knew when his team would hit 60% from deep in a given game and they could beat anyone if they did.

My projection. Fewer peaks and fewer valleys. More consistent. Will IU fans be satisfied 5 years from now if he hasn't been ranked #1, or advanced past a Sweet Sixteen, or won a Big Ten title? I doubt it.

Yeah but what if it is? I mean have you heard of global warming....err climate change?
If true, then I haven't had nearly enough beer. Then I could also sit out on my front porch and laugh at those people running by while trying to stay in shape and say "ha see what that got ya ? We are all still dying and I got to have beer and not kale!"

Or something like that. .

Please stop with the position requirements!
Sorry my deductive reasoning skills got out in front of me. at 6'5" 6'6" I had him pegged at SF since he does not play guard (or would not with Eastern or CE in his way) if he played PF or C I would not be watching anymore. Sorry for my bad.

Dang.. I know it stings a little because we were supposedly in the thick of it for Anderson, but judging by some of the reactions I've seen you'd think IU just got the next Jayson Tatum and Harry Giles. These guys IU are signing are your standard top 100, 3-4 year players, similar to what we recruit. Much closer to Painter's recruiting than the Duke's and Kentucky's of the world.

He will. Bank it

Keep hoping

If Wheeler had played a minute of college ball, then the idea he somehow "scared off" Hunter or Anderson might make sense. But Hunter is a Top 50 kid,and Anderson is a legit 4* as well,so I have no idea how you think the fact that an untested 3* is getting ready to start his career at PU would have any impact on either. Was this a parody post?

On a side note, I have to give this poster "The one and only ACE" props. I mean he joined 16 years ago, right after BOBBY was fired. Now he's all pumped, it's like he knew better than to open his mouth all along the way with all the turd hires IU made. That's patience and restraint.

Crean accomplished 2 of the 3 and it didn't save him.

C'mon dude. Tom Crean's teams never played any defense and he couldn't manage a roster. He never put together complete teams. Either IU had good inside presence or they could shoot it from deep. RARELY did they have both, because Crean's manic recruiting matched his personality. They also ALWAYS lacked depth.

IU fans that had working brains wanted Crean gone even during years he was winning.

I'm not going to come over here and say IU will now be a perennial Final Four contender, but you and I both know Archie & Clappy are as different as different can be.

In literally all areas.

As an IU fan, this obviously pleases me.

Does not make much since arguing the points at this point. We will see how it all shakes out. I am on the record with my opinion that AW will go down as one of Painters best pick ups of his time at Purdue. I am not going to back off that now. As far as rankings go I put number 30 -130 as being about equal. Anyway I am content to wait and see.

I'm not saying he is Tom Crean. I'm just drawing parallels between the reactions to the early recruiting "success" he had compared to the good day that Archie has had. The fact is that we have no idea how he will do at IU at this point. Could be good but it could also be average or worse. I don't think these three recruits offer any more information given that anyone who has followed college recruiting at all would've guessed that he, or anyone with a pulse, would be able to attract top 100 talent to IU.

Anybody that would say Miller isn't a huge upgrade over Clappy is delusional.

Call me delusional if you want but all of that remains to be seen and I don't think there are any guarantees here. One thing I'm sure of is that no matter who they hired, IU fans were going to treat him like the second coming this summer. Check back in with me in about 9-10 months.

I just was never a fan of Crean, matter of fact my kids have had better bench coaches at the grade school level. I just don't think basketball is something he understands. Just my opinion. As for the second part, I agree whomever they got, they were going to act like it was a home run hire. When in reality it was prob option 4 or 5 down their want list. Solid hire without a doubt but not a sure thing.

Because things are not the same as they were and definitely changing. If you can't see that then that is on you.

change in regards to the level of recruits/rankings?
before 2014, cmp averaged nearly two rivals 4 stars(or better) per year - and that was during the time of less budget and the infamous cordova. since 2014, the average has been one.

change in regards to recruit athletic ability?
i've been reading an apparently growing opinion that our new recruits are no more athletic than those already on the team.

as stated earlier today, recruiting has quite a bit of luck as well. a guy like CE who did not receive our initial offers, may end up better than those who did - substantially better. best to wait and actually see how they perform at the college level, together.

I am not worried about Indiana at all, rather I am worried that Painter won't capitalize on the current team's recent success just like he did with Baby Boilers. Replacing great talents with projects, borderline players, and drop-outs.

It kills me to see people down play what just happened today we recruited this kid the longest Archie steps in and takes him right out of our hands but it's no big deal this is a sign of what's going to happen in the future whether you like it or not or whether you think I'm an IU troll.

Pretty clear you are an IU fan masquerading here to try to get a few compliments thrown that way. Pretty sad really.

I have. He had one year where they advanced to the Elite 8 and the other years they didn't advance past the first weekend.

BTW, Crean went to a Final Four with Marquette.
So, elite 8, 32, and two 64's..not that bad. The teams in those years that beat Dayton were very good teams, including Wichita state, runner-up Syracuse, and #1 seed Florida. Granted most matchups are tough in the tourney, but it's tough to face the first two in the first weekend and survive in those years.

You also mentioned Atlantic-10 being a bigger step up than Marquette, I believe? Do you know the teams that comprise the Atlantic-10? Davidson, Richmond, George Washington, UMass, Rhode Island, St. Joes, St. Louis, VCU, etc. I'm sure most of these are familiar as the majority of them have had great success over recent years...it's not as big of a step as it seems. Will he have the same or more success..who knows...it's a huge game of hit and miss when it comes to up and coming coaches.

LOL what a sentence!!! Sorry buddy, you've gave yourself away. 1973 or not.....That's not a Purdue degree, it's definitely one from the south.
