DD is full of hot air? He only gives PU fans factual info such as CS's "done deal", CS will be eligible, he also called the reason for painter pushing out some of the transfers in the recent past. Feel free to dog DD, but he is one if the few guys who gives PU credit when most will not. Just saying. Keep bagging on a guy who actually respects your program.

Oh man I forgot about the Swanigan "done deal" tweet. In fairness, he did backpedal pretty quick saying he never said he was going to Purdue, just that it was a done deal, but still. I've always wondered what info those guys had that never came out in the wake of that whole situation. I like Dakich - you're right, he does give Purdue a lot of praise and I think most of his criticisms are fair.
Actually, he did not back pedal. He said, "I never said it was a 'done deal'. I said CS to Purdue is done. There is no deal. CS will play for PU. Fan boys & bloggers don't understand when I give them specific info." Go listen to the his podcast from that day. He even ripped H&R while giving credit to GBI.
It seems he did not want the word "deal" in the phrasing as in "a deal was made". Dan is really tight with PU's SID and their strength coach either played or coached under Dan at BG. That's why he knows the details behind PU hoops. Dan may talk a lot, but when it comes to b10 hoops, he has the inside track.
Yeah you're right, I forgot the word deal was kind of the point of contention. I definitely am still curious though because Neuber also said all along that everything he had heard said Swanigan was coming to Purdue. What did they know that even in the wake of Swanigans verbal to MSU, made them so sure he was still coming to Purdue. I feel like unfortunately we won't ever know for sure.
I think you've got that a little backwards. If memory serves, he staunchly defended his position that Swanigan would end up at Purdue, but then a ridiculous debate ensued between him and fans over the usage of "done" vs. "done deal", which he said, what the difference was, etc. I'm 99% certain he never back-pedaled on his broader position that Swanigan was going to Purdue.
Dakich stirs the pot a lot. And yes, his current trade makes him an entertainer of sorts. But I estimate he's as well-connected to basketball circles in Indiana as anyone not coaching. And he may even be as connected as some that are. He gets his digs in against Purdue fans and/or the University at large (probably as much to appease his strong contingent of IU listeners as anything else), but he's always had the utmost respect for Keady, Painter, and the program. And you can tell that every time they appear on his show. I don't always agree with his opinion, but I do think he knows what he's talking about more often than not.

DD would never admit in public that he has a lot more respect for Matt and his approach than Creans. People that thought Knight knew something would prefer Matt's coaching over Creans...Dakich, Benson, and Pat Knight quickly come to mind as people that think more of Matt's approach than Creans I'm sure. There are others, but it really isn't important other than to suggest why DD may hold respect for Purdue Basketball...
Agree, Very true but does not have to say it cause his listeners already know. Haha DD kept saying CMP needed to get back to being PU. (While PU was in the cellar for 2 years) Dan does not hesitate to criticize both, but what he states is accurate.

When he was recruiting Elston in Tipton he sat behind me in some folding chairs and was in the hospitality room as well. He is Catholic and it was Lent and so he only ate certain things. He was very personable and said it had been a while since he had seen James Bullock. He knew his time was limited as the IU coach, but was still showing up to retain the commits. Meyer (asst. at Michigan) was his asst. then and he was beside Dan (in the chairs, not hospitality room) and so my conversations were more natural with him. I got razzed at work when a few people said they saw me on TV talking to Dan and wondered if I was giving him some tips. Dan has forgot more than I ever knew...well he certainly knows more anyway...
I did get out of Meyer that they thought Elston was the best prospect in Indiana and could be a good rebounder for IU and pick up a few garbage baskets along the way. I asked Meyer if he had seen DJ Byrd any and he said he was okay, but thought he was too slow. I think Meyer was more interested in hitting on my nephews wife. Anyway, Dan wants to promote his business and generates controversy to stimulate interest at times, but I have no issue with him.
