And only got 3 boards.... Haas doesn't know how to rise up for the dunk or layup, he sometimes backs down when he gets pushed

He is what he is. He'll end up averaging close to the same minutes and PPG/rpg as he did last year. Good guy, good player, just limited.

People will complain why he can't do more with his size, and many more will make excuses and blame it on any and all other factors other than his own limitations. Been that way for the last 3 years and will be the same this year.

I am actually very positive on how Haas has come close to maxing out his abilities. Sadly bball is not just about being big

Haas is what he is at this point; he has actually turned into a hell of free throw shooter. Kept us in it today, the knock on him is he just can’t jump. Honestly he’s prob never had to his whole life. This is why I believe Painter needs a strong rebounder to go along side him, he clears space but VE isn’t the answer against athletic teams. Push Vince to the 3 and play Haarms, bring Taylor in to back up the 5. Painter needs to utilize his team if we’re going to go far.
The only downside is prob being Mathias off the bench and painter will never do that.
Our biggest definciemcy is rebounding, have to be willing to change it up occasionally

If Taylor did get minutes, what do you think your going to get from him?

Well...he is usually a damn good low post offensive player...but the "others" you mention need to take more than 13 seconds for him to get a chance to get the ball deep since it will not be there early usually. When he is on the court...his strength is scoring deep and drawing fouls...keeping the focus of the other team. How well can he do that if the average time of possession is 13 seconds? If you don't get out of Haas his offense down low...he has his limitations with that huge body as you said. Purdue needs to be aware of where he is when he is playing adn although Purdue doesn't need to force feed him the ball...how realistically can he score when he depends on the ball and it is going to the rim on a 13 second average?

Maybe...maybe Dakota plays a combo with Carsen or PJ since you just went big for power ball. You still have people that can handle the ball...and now have power...even if it is sluggish. it may not be for some games, but it may be for some times in some games...

I want Taylor to come in and play 5 at defense. He may not be as tall as the other two guys but he has a heart to play, he plays hard. After three years on the bench he already knew what his role was going to be, the learning experience is invaluable. You have seen Tennessee killed us off of the glass today, Taylor is athletic enough to fight for rebounds with those athletes. According to box score yesterday Vince got thirteen boards and that's what you saw from the most athletic player can do against the Vols and Taylor obviously has more weapon than Vince on boards. He's big enough and two inches taller, he can absorb the physicality that Vince probably would have trouble with. He may be rusty at this moment but his defense is absolutely helpful to us. Haas is absolutely not good at boards, he's just too big and slow and he did not bring his hands with him yesterday. Haarms still needs weight, he got pushed around too often and another ten pounds wouldn't hurt his speed. This team has a bad start and coaches' decision here need to be sharp. Taylor might not be the best option at O, but his D is absolutely a weapon for us.

What Taylor does...Haarms does better right now other than shooting from outside. Only thing I could see is Taylor being at the 4 with Vince pushed to the 3.

This... How is it possible to only get 3 boards at 7'2?

I've been saying this forever....People are so enamored with Haas because he's 7'2 and 300 pounds and automatically assume he should dominate the paint. Unfortunately, he's slow and yes, a bit soft. He'll get outquicked and outjumped by better athletes consistently.
It's like looking at an offensive tackle who's 6'7, 320 and wondering how a defensive end who's 6'2, 230 could ever get around him to the QB...... We all know that answer.

I love Isaac Haas and feel he is the guy who can lead us to the final four. IMO we just don't use him correctly. Isaac can be a man against boys if we let him go wild and play like an enforcer.

We need to get the ball and run and if the shot isn't there. We need to feed the ball to Isaac. We started out doing that and we successful and then went away from it.

We also need to play the twin towers in spurts throughout the game. For example, when Isaac is in the game there are much less inside shots and still Isaac had two blocks. Haarms is great at coming from nowhere and blocking shots. Can you imagine the intimidation of an opp seeing Isaac and settling for a jump shot and then out of nowhere comes Haarms to block it?

Like clock work. This just isn't true. If it was we would be doing it. If you believe painter would intentially misuse some one who as you say can lead us to a F4, or even worse not smart enough to figure out the one thing at his disposal to lead us to the promise Land, then you must have an incredibly low opinion of our coaching staff.

I guess This fairy tale about Haas will not end until he graduates and I guess legends of him being the next Kareem (only if) but was heldback by his coaches, teammates, refs, ghosts of Christmas past,... will live on forever.

He is what he is: good when he can get position and single teamed by smaller less athletic bigs, inconsistent, week rebounder, can get bullied too easily and a -- defender.

All that said AZ will be a great litmus test as they actually have an athletic talented 7 footer- how long can he stay in the Court? That's is if we can get past wku

Haas didn't seem like himself yesterday. I don't know if it was too much fun in the sun or the smash mouth basketball style Tennessee was playing, but I think part of reason he didn't get more touches was that he wasn't aggressive enough or the Volunteers just made it too difficult. Nothing we shouldn't have been able to overcome, but we didn't have the patience and took poor shots.

You need to watch the game again and watch how the Vols constantly bumped into Isaac on rebounds and raked his arms. When Isaac got tough back, the refs called a foul on him and Matt took him out.

I am saying Matt needs to tell Isaac in full ear shot of the refs that is one way to stop the chippiness. He then needs to sub in another big man to get tough. Matt knows this and it is not his style. He would probably say he does not want to teach young men this trait and that is commendable. However, I still think we need to go with two big men several times during the game.

I am not suggesting Isaac pull a Kareem and sucker punch a guy for getting chippy with him. I would love to see him matched up against the AZ center and then any of the elite centers in the Big 10.
