Haas Hand

I have no info, but I'm thinking a cut of some sort. It was covered but not iced. What else could that signify?

Thinking back, I wonder of he could have jammed a finger toward the end when someone (Vince?) threw a hard pass to him inside and he wasn't prepared.

Per ESPN

"He got hit right on the elbow and wasn't able to make a fist," Painter said. "He's still in the training room, so right now I don't know (the extent)."

Anyone hear what happened?
There did not appear to be any blood...it looked more like a dislocated/broken finger, as they immediately covered it with a towel and he headed straight to the tunnel. I don't recall if it was his right hand or left hand, but, pretty sure that it was his right hand.

Right hand.....before he left the game, he jumped for a rebound, and I recall it looking awkward at the time.....didn't appear to raise his right arm.....then he came out and went to the locker room.

Yes, it did happen going for a rebound...and, he definitely had a panicked look on his face as he showed his hand toward the bench...trainer immediately ran to him and covered it with a towel as they headed quickly to the tunnel. Like say, it looked like a dislocated/broken finger...surprised that there is nothing about it, although, I am hopeful that means that it was not anything genuinely serious.

hopefully just an ugly dislocation. even still thats gonna be a problem on the right hand. i knew that announcer put the injury jinx on us!

I dislocated my ring finger on my right hand...pushed back about 1/2 inch and laying perpendicular to my other fingers rebounding. It was UGLY, but didn't hurt. Emergency room reset it and from that day on I had to tape it to the largest finger for protection. If that happened, it may very well effect Haas at the line until he gets used to it. Haas won't dribble as well in traffic either... ;)

I did similar playing wallyball one time, except the outer two joints were at a different angle from yours. I popped it back into place, then taped it to my middle finger and resumed playing volleyball a couple days later. Never went to the doctor, probably not a smart thing to do.

Just hope whatever it is that he recovers....I guess we'll find out soon enough once they clear everything.

When I used to play a lot of basketball, I broke my left hand going up for a rebound....it happens more than one would think that way or going for a loose ball or block....the end of your finger gets jammed and could end up being dislocated or causing a fracture of the metacarpal (the so-called "boxer's break"). A finger would be presumably easier to deal with and play (though it would affect shooting and dribbling initially). A fracture with his right hand, he could miss some significant time, IMO.

And Dave Flemming gets the announcer curse on this as he mentioned about Purdue's relative good fortune "lately" with no serious injuries. Ray Davis had a knee injury (MCL sprain) a couple of years ago that plagued him a good part of his senior season, but that's about all I can recall since *** other than Jay Simpson's unfortunate diagnosis/heart condition, which prevented him from playing anymore.

JT?

Yeah...good point, FDB....unfortunately JT hasn't yet shown fully what he can really do for any extended period. I still hold out hopes that it all works out in Purdue's and Jacquil Taylor's favor.

FWIW - I thought he played well for a short stretch near the end of the first half when VE and Isaac were both in foul trouble. Wouldn't be surprised if his playing time starts to increase over time.

I thought DD also called him out for that right when it happened, IIRC.
Yep.

Well, I hope Haas is able to play against Maryland. They have some size. One of their bigs played well last year against Purdue. 7 footer I believe. The guy with the Russian name. Looks like they have several weapons.

Hope the big man's hand is OK. We'll definitely need him against the Terps. I think he's a good match up against the more traditional, plodding centers.

This time, he won't travel with 1 second left on the clock.

I hate going from feeling slightly nervous to relieved then back to nervousness.

Michal Cekovsky....he had a huge game off the bench in the game last year @ College Park......10 points and 6 blocks in less than 14 minutes of action. IIRC, he injured his foot in that game, then fractured it a couple of games later against Wisconsin and was done for the year. I expect he'll give the Boilers some problems Friday evening, but Cowan and Huerter have been the main weapons from my understanding. Huerter went 7-9 from three against Syracuse, finishing with 23 points.

This should be a tough battle to open conference play.

I wish I had the source, but Haas said he got hit on the elbow and he lost feeling in his hand and the hand itself locked up on him. As of Wednesday he was regaining feeling and was held out of practice. Thursday he practiced and he indicated that everything felt normal and no lasting issues. Sounds like he is fine for tonight. Sorry I can't remember or get a link for the source.

I previous stated in a thread that if you watch the video when Carsen was fouled for the three, Haas sealed and open up showing his hands and his elbow went into the chest of the defender. Nothing happened after that except Haas looked at his hand and walked to the bench. Find the video and you can see it

easy B, that's my ethnic backround, will rooting against him bigtime.

No problem with Slovaks or any other ethnicity - but that guy's fouls per minute ratio had to be one of the worst in the country last season.

Bring on the pierogies!

Interesting.....here's the breakdowns (per 40 minutes):

2015 - 6.54
2016 - 7.68
2017 - 7.67 (shortened due to injury)
2018 - 4.24

Per game totals, 2017 was his highest (2.5 fouls), then 2.1/game in 2015. Feel free to check/confirm due to light staffing for the holidays. As comparison....here are Isaac Haas':

2015 - 5.89 (2.1/game)
2016 - 4.64 (1.7/game)
2017 - 4.28 (2.1/game)
2018 - 5.03 (2.6/game)
