Gunner Kiel gets benched for his final year at Cincinnati

Not sure about the hilarious part. The kid has been hurt and has some personal issues that are clearly having an effect on his ability to play the game he loves and potentially make lots of money. I feel sorry for the kid as I think he should have stuck with his original commitment at IU. He would have put up ridiculous numbers there and would have been on par with their legends in Anthony Thomas and Antwaun Randle-El.

Sure it is. Lol

It's more common than you think. No bearing on the kid.
While I agree that he is not necessary a head case, never mind one in the sense that Jeff George was, to suggest that his college path is more common than thought is not remotely accurate.

The kid is very talented...but that is not the issue obviously. As mentioned above, had he simply stuck with is original decision and gone to/played at IU, he would be a virtual legend there and likely would have had far more success than he has at any of his other stops.

I do not find the situation to be amusing, never mind hilarious...if anything, it is sad (to me at least). No reason though that he cannot write a happy ending to the story though still...this year and beyond for that matter.

Follow SEC recruiting. Guys can switch 2 or 3 times. It is the only time the player has all the power.

As for Kiel, If he pulls it together, he is an NFL talent.

From the story, it sounds like a critical piece of not being the starter this year is recurring problems associated with past injuries. Hardly hilarious.
Perhaps you missed the part about the mysterious "personal issues". Head case.

If these issues stem from his injuries, I can't help but wonder if they are painkiller related. That would be no laughing matter - as it can lead to heroine use. it's pretty much an epidemic with young athletes who have been injured.

No... I didn't. Here's the text... perhaps you're the one who missed it:

So… how does that guy become today’s guy, no better than a first or even second alternative to Moore?

He has been hurt a lot: Ribs, concussion, now the shoulder ache. He has “personal issues’’ and hasn’t spoken to the media since last year.

Clearly, the recent shoulder injury is what is keeping him from playing, according to this author, hence the "now" reference. I would have no idea as I don't follow Cincinnati football. What I do know, is that I'm not going to sit around and laugh at Indiana high school kids who have a mixture of medical and personal issues keeping them from playing sports. That's deplorable.

"He has “personal issues’’ and hasn’t spoken to the media since last year."

Yes, that's very logical. My shoulder aches so I'm not talking to media.

Good grief. His lack of speaking to media is not the reason he isn't playing. He isn't playing because he has physical injuries - and perhaps - mental/social/emotional issues as well. You think that's funny. Maybe a child of yours will have health issues one day and you'll post about that... and I bet 100% of responses you get from people will be to console you, not laugh at your child's problems.

Note: it's 100% because - with you as the poster - you won't be included in the denominator of "respondents".

Don't argue with buygreekbonds. It's a complete waste of time. Just be thankful Gunner Kiel isn't a "moslem."

I didn't say that Kiel's lack of speaking to media is the reason he isn't playing. That is your distortion of my comments.

You linked an article about an Indiana kid who has physical injuries and other personal issues that are likely to prevent him from playing a sport he's pretty good at, potentially good enough to make a career out of. Your exact comment was: "HILARIOUS!" There you go... that's distortion-free.

I should probably listen to TOKen... perhaps you are like someone who's been in the news a lot recently that has a tendency to avoid ever owning up to his own statements and instead says other people on the internet are just distorting his words.

Kiel was a prima donna out of HS and he is indeed a head case like Jeff George. He flipped, then flipped again and then flipped again. Then he transferred to a non-P5 school. He has "personal issues" and he's not talking to the media. One more time: "Head Case".

So what?An athlete transferring isn't news. Happens all the time at Purdue.
You are not honestly debating the issue. A transfer is not unusual.

But a kid who decommits and then decommits again because his mommy wanted him to go where he didn't fit into the offense and then transferred and stopped speaking to the media due to "personal issues" is a head case. As I said, he's another Jeff George.

Know a few people pretty close to the Cincinnati program, Gunner had plenty of issues before the injuries. Hate to see a kid hurt, but let's not pretend he wasn't/isn't a slight head case. Doesn't mean he's a terrible kid, it happens.

I know people in the CIncy ad too. Comparing him to George is way off base.
Not to interrupt, but I know several people who know Jeff George pretty well, and they all say he is a really nice guy. One of them thinks his issues stemmed from not being a born leader, and also not caring to spend a lot of time on football, away from the field.
