Great Job JD

This win makes little difference...."coach" Hellzells 3+ years body of work sucks...he needs to go.
You're probably right. But he's not being fired tomorrow. And every win makes a difference. We're nearly half way through the season and have a winning record. I'll take it and worry about our next coach another day. You should too. It actually feels kind of good.

Don't kid yourself after we barely beat a shitty Illinois team...we are nowhere where we need to be as a program.

I want out, a nail biter against a shitty team doesn't change how bad of a coach we have....happy for the kids, but this win didn't help our program...just put us farther behind.

Umm. Where in my note did I state we are fine as a program? Freaking enjoy a win. Worry about Hazel another day. Or just be miserable regardless. It's really your choice.

And it's your choice to shit rainbows after beating a terrible team. We'll see how happy you are after we get thumped by a team with a pulse.

If you want out, then leave. Wins never put us farther behind.

Is there one person on this board advocating to keep DH? We're just enjoying a win and the fact that we're actually 3-2 and 1-1. That feels pretty good for the night. Sure, we'll probably get beat by 30 next week but who cares? Enjoy it. The coaching situation will sort itself out.

Let me ask...if we win 3 more games, do you want to fire DH? Should he be fired? Totally hypothetical. I don't think we win that many but I would support one more year for him if we get to 6. I said that before game 1 and it hasn't changed.

We want YOU out as a fan.

Lots of football left to be played. If this is the last game we win this year, Hazell will be gone. Wins only help the program at this point. Gives the fans who aren't wanting to wallow in self hate some joy

Sometimes I feel like you, me, and TC are the only ones on this board who actually prefer to be happy.

It's no lose at this point. We either win 6 and go bowling or we look for a new coach.

Enjoying the wins in between now and then is all we got...especially if this is the art one til IU

I think it takes 8 wins to keep his job.

But for those who aren't excited by the win, think of it being easier to hire a coach to a 5 win team than a 2 win team.

Winning a few games this year doesn't make the hazell haters any less right. He's gone - might as well win a few games along the way

If some how end up winning 6 games, Purdue won't fire him...may be the high end of what he can do with what he can recruit...

This is a fair point, though it's difficult to imagine winning any more games this year.

Of course it's hard for you to imagine that... because you're a pessimist.

Coming on here to try to bring everybody down after a win tells me all I need to know about you.

I'm a fan of Purdue football, so I cheer when they win. It's hard for me to consider someone a fan if they aren't happy after a win.

I'm sorry my opinion upsets you...I'm sorry you celebrate a coach and a program that is no longer worth my time or energy, I'm sorry that I've invested countless hours worried about what could turn this shitty program around, I'm sorry that I can't convince friends to travel to West Lafayette anymore to tailgate....but if u want to call me a bad alumni because I'm not as complacent as the rest of you "holier than thous" than have at it....

If it's no longer worth your time and energy....why are you here?

Look, we have challenges...but if this coach can get this team to a bowl this year he deserves to stay. I get that others don't feel that way but there are a lot of beatable teams on the schedule and we should let the season play out.....where at the end it should be abundantly clear the direction we should take. If we are going to fire Hazell because of the past 3 years we should have fired him last year. I think he had a very short leash this year and while the Maryland game was embarrassing I think it would have been more embarrassing to not let him finish out the year when you have nothing additional to lose by letting him be the coach.

The players showed this week they are willing to fight and play hard for him. You realize we probably run away with that game if we don't knock Lunt out right? That them playing their running QB was a matchup issue for us (just like at Maryland) and that if Lunt goes the distance we are up 21-9 at half and likely cruise to a big win? Sure, Danny E's late boneheaded hit caused this issue for ourselves....but we fought adversity and won. We were dominating a team in every facet that gave the division leader a scare into the 4th last week.

I still think this team has a chance to win 7 regular season games. I don't think we will, but if we have the chance to....why fire our coach at this point? I am in favor of keeping him on until we are no longer bowl eligible. Once that happens, we can cast him aside. Any call to fire him now is trying to appease the juvenile petulance that immature posters like you can hide behind on an anonymous message board.

Well tough guy, you're not exactly a shining example of maturity yourself. Furthermore, you and the other Pollyanna Sunshine Boys seem to take it personally when those of us not wearing rosy- colored glasses have perspectives that differ from yours.

Get over yourself.

Actually the phrase "juvenile petulance" was very appropriate because the presence of those that want Hazell gone is kind of like watching someone dragging a child away while they are kicking and screaming.

Guess what? At the end of last season, I shared your opinion. But the decision has been made for this season and there are two ways to handle that. We can try to support the team that we have and celebrate in whatever accomplishments do come our way or we can sit back behind our keyboard and bitch and complain every step of the way about what went wrong and why we're not where we want to be. Your mistake is that you interpret the former for acceptance of where we're at instead of recognition that there is nothing to be gained by calling for coaching changes 5 games into a 3-2 season.

So continue to grouse if you want (I'm sure you do) but just understand that just because others aren't throwing an online tantrum about the situation doesn't make them Pollyanna or even drawing a different ultimate conclusion than you. It simply makes them mature and rational.

I'm not being overly optimistic. I think i'm being realistic.

Would be unfair to fire a coach with a .500 or above record this season with a legitimate chance to win games ahead of him. When its clear we aren't hitting 6 wins, I'm all for letting him go. This team is still young and improving. We either get over the hump or its time to go.

The hourly "_____ is a disgrace!" "Fire _____" are the biggest issue with this board that I see. I think Hazell is fully capable of recruiting well. He's identified and signed some good talent. I think he has to win.....and that is his challenge....and that is what he is being tasked to do. Why not allow him to do that?

Hazell should be allowed to overcome Burke's Mistake of Hiring Hope and his own mistake of hiring Shoop. It looks like Shoop being gone is helping, we just have to continue to win. Again, my biggest puzzlement with the posts on the board is the assumption that Bobinski isn't taking an active role in the future of the program. You don't think he's listening? You don't think he's watching? And the only evidence you have to point to is that he hasn't fired our coach who is 3-2 this year yet?

If we go 3-9, 4-8 or 5-7 this year I fully agree with firing him.

I also feel that if we start winning, we likely won't just win 6...it would likely be 7...as the teams on our schedule we'd have to beat to win 6 are also the same caliber of the teams we'd have to beat to win 7 or 8.
