Jon Rothstein visited Duke and posted some notes, one which said it looks like Gillis will start for Duke at the start. Surprised me,, with all they had back and their big recruits, I thought he would be at best the 6 or 7th man for them.
Always assumed he would start early. Then as the young guys get it.....come off the bench.Jon Rothstein visited Duke and posted some notes, one which said it looks like Gillis will start for Duke at the start. I would assume it’s due to Duke has 4 projected first rounders…3 of which are lotto picks. Why is this news Mason is a 6th year senior who played starter minutes for a national championship contender.
Haha. My first thought was “oh my God, is that Mason Gillis’ music?!?”Someone’s gotta protect the overall number 1 pick!

Good news! Our 6th man from last year is slated to be a starter for a highly touted Duke. Kind of a nod to last year’s team I think. For me it will be extremely bittersweet if he makes another Final Four.Good news! Our 6th man from last year is slated to be a starter for a highly touted Duke. Kind of a nod to last year’s team I think. Happy for Mason!
Purdue vs Duke in F4 👀👀For me it will be extremely bittersweet if he makes another Final Four.
Purdue winning would wipe away the bitter from bittersweet.Purdue vs Duke in F4 👀👀
I think Duke could be special because of Flagg.
Yeah, Flagg is really good. And they have a supporting cast that can absolutely back him up, Gillis included.I think Duke could be special because of Flagg.
But, wow they hit all those shots because they were WIDE open.
I hope Gillis does really wellI think Duke could be special because of Flagg.

His career stats of 6.5 and 4 while shooting 40% in 20 mins will be exactly what Duke needs.Gillis could be that missing piece to combine with their young talent. I still view him as a player/coach. I don’t expect to see him put up big individual stats. I do expect to see help his team win games.
Exactly. I could see those type of stats. I could see him hitting a few game winning shots. I could also see him becoming a very successful coach when his career is over. He’s smart, knows the game, knows how to motivate others and will have played for two very fundamentally sound programs. He has his degrees! He has a tremendous career in front of him.His career stats of 6.5 and 4 while shooting 40% in 20 mins will be exactly what Duke needs.
Gillis is one of my favorite Boilers. That said, there is no way I will want Duke success of any kind. I live in the Carolinas, so I have good reasons. I hope he personally does well and gets solid education too.Hard for me to support Duke no matter what.
Might have to grit my teeth though, and do just that, if they do happen to earn their way to a FF.
He’s pretty into finance and investing, wouldn’t be surprised if he goes that route.Exactly. I could see those type of stats. I could see him hitting a few game winning shots. Yeah, I can’t do it. I wish Gillis every success but would be happy if the dookies lost every game.Gillis is one of my favorite Boilers. Agree. I expect to see Mason be very successful, but would be surprised if it is in coaching. He’s pretty into finance and investing, wouldn’t be surprised if he goes that route.
Perhaps a sports agent?Agree. I expect to see Mason be very successful, but would be surprised if it is in coaching.
Hadn't thought of it but maybe. I think most of those guys go to law school, or at least they used to but Mason would likely excel there if he were inclined.Perhaps a sports agent?
I was reminded of Eugene Parker becoming a very successful sports agent. Gillis definitely has the intelligence to pursue that career if he wants.Hadn't thought of it but maybe.
