I really hope nothing like this ever happens at Purdue, would not be surprised if it did:

Racist video surfaces from an Oklahoma fraternity, and the President takes decisive action.

"To those who have misused their free
speech in such a reprehensible way, I have a message for you. You are
disgraceful. You have violated all that we sand for. You should not have
the privilege of calling yourselves "Sooners". Real Sooners are not
racist. Real Sooners are not bigots. Real Sooners believe in equal
opportunity. Real Sooners treat all people with respect. Real Sooners
love each other take care of each other like family members.

"Effective immediately, all ties and affiliations
between this University and the local SAE chapter are hereby severed. I
direct that the house be closed and that members will remove their
personal belongings from the house by midnight tomorrow. Those needing
to make special arrangements for positions shall contact the Dean of
Students.

"All of us will redouble our efforts to create
the strongest sense of family and community. We vow that we will be an
example to the entire country of how to deal with this issue. There must
be a zero tolerance for racism everywhere in our nation.

President Boren"

Zzzzzzzzzzz

Hey, let's get our panties in a bunch because.........black guys said the word "n-gger" in a song. Whoops. That's not considered a problem. My bad.

Who's rights were violated? Who was harmed? Nobody's and nobody. But that won't stop the thought police from springing into action! Since the perps are the wrong race and the wrong gender and, to make it worse, they belong to a fraternity then they must be punished for their crimethink.

Maybe they should be forced to attend a Black Lives Matter re-education camp.

as a conservative Purdue alum, all I can say is...

Go the hell away. You are a complete disgrace, not to mention an idiot. Seriously. You are an embarassment.

Re: as a conservative Purdue alum, all I can say is...

Noodle, I would add more to what you have written, but it would probably only be considered as piling on.

Why GMM hasn't been banned ifrom these boards is only a question GBI can answer???????????

The only question remaining is who does he despise more, African Americans or Muslims, or as he will probably tell us, western-cultural-hating liberals?

Re: as a conservative Purdue alum, all I can say is...

Some people deserve to be "piled upon".

He's been a scum-sucking, bigoted piece of shit on here for years, and he's run off more than a few interesting posters. I wouldn't mind him sticking around for his entertainment value, but his embarrassment to the university we all presumably love outweighs any laughs some of us may get from his ridiculous rants.

In memory of Omaha, Rowdie, DocRon, DPU, YouGotMe, PurdueBill and many others I know I'm forgetting, pile on at will.

Yeah, sure

Every now and then some people need to express their phony outrage. This SAE issue is just the latest incident.

Re: as a conservative Purdue alum, all I can say is...

Disgrace? Check.
Idiot? Check.
Embarrassment? Check.

OK if he posts here? Sure. If for no other reason than to serve as a reminder to all of us as to what sorts of bizarre thought processes lurk in the brains of people around every corner. It's important to see these things with eyes wide open. If you get enough GMM-think in one concentrated geography, as has been proven, then really really bad things can happen.

Well, I've been on here for over ten years, and he's been here at least that long. And I agree that it sucks that so many posters have been run off, but he hasn't been the only one to do so. Despite his horrific views, he's not as aggressive about them as some others on here (who I just ignore). I don't mind him . . aside from his embarrassing views.

of course

there are several posters on here just as bad as he is.

Re: of course

I can think of a couple off the top of my head that are worse. Just find a thread with pastorjoe in it and look for anyone saying ,"I can't believe you call yourself a pastor! ".

I've not been here that long but I have never seen him post anything that would indicate he has ever even been in West Lafayette.

IMHO posting his nonsense is somehow his job. Another board I frequented had a similar type who was acknowledged to be a pro and disrupted everything with similar nonsense, the board, similar to here, was on the free side of a paid site and the place was interesting but is not used any longer.

Re: Yeah, sure

In this day and age, what these frat boys did was inexcusable. This is not phony outrage. Yes, there is freedom of speech, but the university also has the right to revoke the frat's right to operate on campus when they do moronic stuff like this.

Yes, they did sing a tasteless song in private. Meanwhile, tasteless things are done in public all the time and there's no outrage. This is selective, phony outrage.

Re: Yeah, sure

In this day and age......

Exactly. That's part of the reason its phony outrage. Political correctness has dictated that some groups can do stuff like this in public and not get punished while other groups can do stuff like this in private and get punished.

.....when they do moronic stuff like this.

Of course it was moronic. That's why they did it! People love to do moronic things for laughs. Especially in private. Who likes to moronic things more than anybody else? Young men.

Re: Yeah, sure

You can't pull out the "boys will be boys" card here. They way overstepped the line here and deserve whatever they have coming to them. If some of these morons are expelled, so be it.

Re: Yeah, sure

Yes, I can pull that card because this stuff happens all the time--in private. They didn't harm anybody, didn't set out to harm anybody, didn't set out to offend anybody. Far worse intentional things happen in public yet there's nowhere near the outrage.

Yes, keep clutching your pearls

Since you don't have anything of substance to offer.

Re: Yes, keep clutching your pearls

Why do you keep talking about things that happen in private? If this happened in private, then we most likely wouldn't know about it. But when you video record your racist chants that are steeped in tradition, and then release it ON THE INTERNET you lose the right to claim "it happened in private."

This isn't a couple kids sitting in their fraternity room spouting off racist remarks (I was in a fraternity, and yes it does happen behind closed doors by a select few), this is an organization that is directly tied to the University making a video of their exploits.

Don't want the backlash, don't make your so called private affairs public. They made their bed.

Re: Yes, keep clutching your pearls

That brings up a good question: Did they intend to release the video?

I don't know whether they did or not. It certainly seems like they didn't. I have no idea why they would. Do you know?

If you knew anything about humor.....

......you'd know that tasteless content often makes things funnier. Which is why they sang it.

While I agree there is no way for us to know intent, I think it would be incredibly naive to think this was done in error. Did the person not fully think through the consequences of uploading this? Probably. Still not an excuse.

see, we all knew

you think racism against blacks isn't possible because it's all true.

I'd assumed

the person who took and uploaded it was shocked and offended by it, but didn't want anyone to know it was him.

What does....

.....that song they sang have to do with racism?

Oh yeah, the people who sang it were white so its racist. Cue the outrage.

yep

blacks hanging from trees is just good clean fun.

It is? Then tell us about all the times these guys at SAE actually did that. Or even tried to do it. Or even thought about doing it.

Who's killed more black men in the last ~20 years, SAE or black fraternities?

Re: If you knew anything about humor.....

So you now know why they sang it? Does that mean you were there too?

yes

you can always joke about things like lynching blacks, it's only if you actually do it that you are racist...maybe.

Got it.

It doesn't matter to me

Hate speech in private is still hate speech. You don't get that. The concept breaks your message. Too bad.

Hate speech in private still does harm. Especially in a group when one person starts it and all the people in the room who should know better are pussies and don't speak up to stop it. And all the impressionable people in the room start thinking it's OK. You don't get any of that either.

But whatever. You are what you are.

ah but

it's not hate speech to him, it's truth speech.

phony outrage or not. At this point in time, we have made it clear that outright racist chants or comments are not tolerated in public. Those kids know that, GMM knows that, every one in America knows that.

But I do agree to an extent, racism is not some silly chant - as offensive as the chant is. Rather, it's the cumulative disadavantages and injustices - major and minor - that accrue due to ones skin color. Strangely enough, when DoJ releases a thorough but arguably imperfect report detailing such in Ferguson, MO, GMM still claimed racism wasn't at play.

If emotions over offensive chants can be dismissed "phony outrage" and real documented statistics on the disparate law enforcement is dismissed as "not unique to Ferguson, MO" while being attributed to "inherent higher crimates", one wonders what will ever be seen as racism for the likes of GMM.

At this point in time, we have made it clear that outright racist chants.......

And, depending on the "skin color" of those doing the chanting, it may or may not be deemed "racist".

......or comments are not tolerated in public

Was this done in public? No.

Those kids know that.....

Which is why they did it in private.

Strangely enough, when DoJ releases a thorough but arguably imperfect report detailing such in Ferguson, MO, GMM still claimed racism wasn't at play.

Because it wasn't. Well, other than the fact that most of the Ferguson cops are white which makes it racist. This "disparate impact" crap is pure BS. Ferguson, MO is average when comes to such "disparate impact". The only reason the DOJ focused on it was to make up for the hoax that blew up in the left's face.

....one wonders what will ever be seen as racism for the likes of GMM

Racism is simply the behavior of whites that is denounced while the same behavior for non-whites is either not denounced, excused, praised, or required.

If emotions over offensive chants can be dismissed "phony outrage" ......

Considering all the far worse things that are said or done in public then, yes, the outrage over what was said in private is indeed phony.

......while being attributed to "inherent higher crimates"......

That's known as a hatefact. Are you seriously denying the overwhelmingly reliable and widespread pattern of higher crime rates for blacks, especially young black men, in this country? Probably. You have to in order to perpetuate this "racism" charge.

lol

come on man, you know the answer:

for GMM racism is either:

a. perpetrated against white men
b. truth

"I will cut your head off"

Have you expressed your outrage over that "hate speech"? I seriously doubt it. Have you even heard of this story? I seriously doubt it. Should it even be a national news story or a national outrage? No, not really.

A man is facing charges after harassing a rabbi outside the Ohev Shalom Congregation in Miami Beach, police said.

According to the arrest report, Diego Chaar, 24, first yelled out "Allahu akbar," which is translated from Arabic as "God is great" or "God is greater."

Police said the Rabbi David Weberman and a witness ignored Chaar, at which point he yelled, "Heads will be cut off" and "I will cut your head off."

You can pretty much guarantee this won't be either a national news story or a national outrage. But, in this incident two people were threatened. Meanwhile, in the SAE story, zero people were threatened. So why the outrage!!!!! on the SAE story? Political correctness. If you're honest you would admit there are thousands of things like this happening all the time in this country that are far worse than what happened at SAE. But none of them will get the same reaction. Something has to explain the extra attention.

Hate speech in private is still hate speech.

And hate speech in private happens ALL THE TIME in this country. For that matter it happens all over the world and has been happening forever. But you and others won't get upset about it. The SAE story was selected for extra attention to fit a political agenda. You don't get that though.
