First game so very optimistic and always positive.....

Obviously they are ranked#16 and have high powered offense.

If Purdue can pick him off early maybe he loses confidence or IMO if Purdue can control the ball with running plays and taking time off the clock we can win a close one.

I am always trying to think positive and if we can contain the QB, pick him off early and often and run the ball/control the clock and score when we get chances to score and lastly get some defense scores we have a chance.

I am hopeful we win, but a strong effort and positives to cheer for will suffice this year.

If we can keep them under 30 I say we can win PU38 UofL 24......but if they get rolling it could be UofL 48 PU 24.

Excited for the future and Boiler Up!

I think for Purdue to have success, it'll have to be a similar story to how Purdue beat Nebraska a few seasons ago. The defense has to force multiple TO's, cash in on those TO's, and not turn the ball over themselves....and even then, it'll still be hard to win the game. Lousiville is unique in that they have a player who has an ability by himself to score quickly and get a team on its' heels.

If Purdue can control the tempo with its' running backs and TE's while also taking shots down the field at times through play action or in a one on one situation in the seam or outside the numbers, it'll have a good chance at being close in the 4th quarter....and that this point, that would be a massive improvement from years past where a team like Louisville would blast Purdue before the end of the first quarter.

Louisville: 45
Purdue: 27

Lamar is scary good at times! This is going to be a tough early test! Not quite sure we are ready to pull off the upset. At least the game is in Indy. My prediction is:
Purdue 24, Louisville 34. Hope I am wrong! Boiler Up!

Actually based on rankings, they were much higher rated as a defense last year than a offense. Granted, they have one amazing player on offense but they have a very strong front seven on defense. I believe they were a top 15 defense last year with most returning.

Just praying we don't embarrass ourselves- If we can come within 2 touchdowns and demonstrate that they will stay in the fight for all 4 quarters ( unlike last year), I will be satisfied.

If its a blowout, all the early season optimism might lead me to start drinking again....

That pretty much sums it up for me also.............all I am wanting out of this season is 4-5 wins............but most of all just look competitive in the games that we don't......... I want to see some damn fanny's in the stands this year..............55k plus will do! Planning on coming down for 2 games at least this year! Hoping we have enough talent to make coaches offense look fun to watch............

A blowout to a good team like UL is not as concerning as a blowout to an average team like what occurred in Hazel's first game at Cinncy. You could clearly see the deficiencies Hazell had retroactively looking at that game and getting pounded by a some what average Cinncy team was embarrassing. Getting beat by UL by 30 or so isn't a terrible thing all things considered....BUT if the team looks prepared and gives an effort, I'll be happy.

The true test I think comes next Friday against Ohio. That will be a good judge of where Purdue will fall this year given Ohio should be a top 3ish team in the MAC. If Purdue controls that game and wins by 20+, you'll get a good handle of where the W's come from this season (Ohio, Missouri (depending what their first two games look like), Illinois, Indiana, Minny (all accounts point to a down year)).

I want to see inspired play, how we perform after the halftime break, and no injuries cause of the quick time we have to prepare for a friday game.

the first game against Cinn with Hazel, what I remember is the team constantly shooting themselves in the foot , all Cinn had to do was show up and the game was theirs. Worst coached team I ever saw

I knew that we were in trouble long term when at that Cinnci post game presser, the Haze was visibly shell shocked and Rob Henry looked like an empty player with no hope...No pun intended...
Not the same picture that we saw when Tiller lost to Toledo...

Tiller was confident after that game, and it showed, that he was going to get it turned around.

He also made an impression on his players. The players were expecting the 30 minutes of getting chewed out that Colleto would have done. Instead Tiller came in and calmly said they had things to work on and let's get to it.

What do I want to see. I want to see a semblance of order on the sideline, decent clock management and use of timeouts, and a team that doesn't quit and seems to have a handle on the playbook. 4-5 wins would be more than we've had in the past regime so that would be a plus at this point.

I want to see a lack of the 3 things that poorly coached teams do:
1) penalties
2) Turnovers
3) mental mistakes
All 3 of those were hallmarks of the Hazell era.

Don't forget these:
4) poorly bent hats
5) turtlenecks with a vest

Also hallmarks of a poorly coached team and ironically during the Hazell era as well.

I am a bit concerned when I've read as recently as this week players having trouble getting lined up correctly and the need for all 11 to be knowing and executing their assignments. Perhaps old habits are hard to break?

I just don't want to be blown out by this guy:

IU did their part on national TV - they are still IU. Now Purdue just needs to show progress - play smart, compete, and have fun playing. If they show they can compete for awhile tonight, the pace of the rebuild will quicken. If they don't, the rebuild will still happen, just over a longer period of time.

Louisville will have home field advantage tonight. I expect this game to be ugly. Tough first game for a new coach

Isn't Purdue's campus closer to Indy than Louisville is? I figured it would be about even on attendance. Go Cards!

The game is in IUapolis. Purdue is coming off the worst era in their history and while hopeful that we've made the right hire we've been burned more times than not. 90% of Boiler fans don't expect a win tonight and hope that a rout doesn't occur. With a holiday weekend, national TV and low expectations for the game it won't be a Boiler crowd.
