FYI Les Miles

I'm thinking the price for Fleck and Miles can't be that different. Go get Fleck.

This is not an auction. Fleck is still young - he will wait another year if necessary to land a more prime job with better resources, facilities, fan support, and administration.

I'm not sure that just throwing money at Fleck will allow us to be able to land him.

Fair point. But still worth a shot, no?

Probably so. He is having a phenomenal season. But there will be plenty of prime jobs this year - possibly LSU, USC, Texas, Notre Dame, Oregon, etc. Tom Herman will not be able to fill all of these jobs and Fleck will be one of the next names that comes up for some of these openings once the ridiculous candidates like Cowher and Gruden don't pan out . As much as I hate to say it, why would you take the Purdue job if you thought you could get a job like one of these in the next year or two? But to your point, yes still worth taking a shot.

I don't see one of those top blueblood type schools taking a run at Fleck. I think they'd be able to pull from a different pool of more successful P5 coaches looking to take a step up.

I really hope PJF is available to us, and he reciprocates our enthusiasm, but who knows. If we have a chance at Charlie Strong that would be a HOME RUN IMO, and a no-brainer. I also like the thought of Greg Schiano taking over.

Not sure any of them are PU tier at this point, but one can always dream.

Pass on Les. I love the guy, but he's not the man for this job.

Fleck gets $4 million. Doubt we want to pay that.

$4 million would be absurd for Fleck. Dave Doeren and Jerry Kill got $2 million and one of them went to a BCS bowl for heaven sakes. $4 million would be way overpaying for what's been proven.

Whomever we hire will have to bring in as many TOP JUCO recruits to turn this dumpster fire around to be successful in his first year!

Why do we as fans give 2 shit$ about whether our Ath dept decides to pay a guy $4 mil? Its not going to impact you as a fan or your financial position. If that's what it takes to get the best possible coach, then that's what it takes.

I agree. But TV money has gone way up since then. And he's a much more attractive candidate than either of those 2, due to his recruiting acumen.

Every single class he has signed at WMU has been ranked higher than ours. Has that ever happened before?

Why do you care whether it's $1 mil, $4 mil or $10 mil? The bigger concern should be how much money is being lost on everything from the lack of ticket sales, concessions, and donations. With the amount of money PU is getting from the B10 contract, money is no excuse for anything.

I agree with everything here. It'd be hard to pass on miles, but I really am not convinced that his style or motivation level is where it needs to be to turn this Around.

Also, there is no way this is a 10 year rebuild. We'll probably get 4 wins this year. Any decent coach would have gotten 6. After a couple years of a good coaching system, I expect to be back at 8 wins a year. That, on average, is as good as Purdue's ever been.

There's a reason no school pays their coach $10M a year. Like it or not, schools have budgets. It's not just an excuse.

I think you're in for a rude awakening. Lombardi couldn't win 6 games with this mess of a roster that The Haze has assembled. That's what 4 terrible recruiting classes in a row does to you. Sure we have a half dozen decent players, but that's obviously nowhere near enough

It's not a 10 year rebuild, but it won't be a couple either.

The "baseline" for that type of hire has not gone from $2 million to $4 million in three years. Dino Babers was hired from MAC to Syracuse last year - $2.5 million, Matt Campbell hired by Iowa State from the MAC for $2.2 and Justin Fuente was plucked as THE most sought after coach in the offseason to Va. Tech for $3.2 million. PJ Fleck getting $4 million would be a complete ripoff.

And looking at coaches that are paid $4+ million - they are mostly all very experienced head coaches or have accomplished significant things.

I'm not saying don't pay anyone $4 million. I'm saying $4 million is a ripoff for someone like Fleck.

Hate to break it to you, but we're going to have to massively overpay for a quality coach. Remember when the Bills signed Mario Williams? They had to pay millions more than the next highest offer because it was such an unattractive situation. That's us.

Iowa State and Syracuse are more attractive places than Purdue? Eh.

Yes, if a coach was choosing between us and Michigan State, would we be able to offer identical contracts/situations and get them? Probably not. But to over pay by $1.5 million is not happening either

I guarantee you fleck gets other offers over $3 million. And we would have to significantly beat those offers to get him.

He will be in much more demand than babers or Campbell we're.

He made his bones as a lights-out recruiter for McCartney at Colorado back in the 80s.

I would love to see miles at Purdue. I have no doubt he would recruit a helluva lot better than Hazel, but let's not lose sight that West Lafayette is not Boulder or Baton Rouge

why don't you just offer a billion while you're at it lol. Schools have budgets dude

You'd think....

I don't think 63 year old Miles has any tricks left in the playbook though. He's most likely hire Cam back....you know, those Indiana ties and all.

While he would recruit better than our current coach I think we could hire better recruiters. LSU isn't a tough job to recruit to. Louisiana is a top 10 talent state and kids grow up a major fan of your program. Shoot, I think just the Baton Rouge area itself could be a top 30 talent state on its own.
As for those "Indiana ties", Cam didn't leave IU as a happy camper. And his offensive philosopy:
Cam Cameron suggests that there’s an element of preserving running backs for the long haul.

Cameron formulates the game plan each week based on what he feels will work best against the opposing defenses’ weaknesses and tendencies. It’s not about trying to get a 50/50 split.

“It’s about attacking the defense we’re playing,” he said. “We may throw it every down some games. If we think that’s what we need to do to win the game, that’s what we’re going to do.

“We want to be balanced over the course of time, but every given week, in all likelihood, we’re not going to be balanced.”

Well, first off it totally depends how he ends his season. If WMU goes undefeated or has 1 loss, sure he could be in a very similar spot to Justin Fuente (the MAC is not on the same level as the AAU though). Not sure how someone who takes NIU to a BCS bowl gets $2.2m, but Fleck gets over $3m. That's why I think it is overpaying, regardless if even someone does pay it.

Other coaches in the $3m range are Bobby Petrino (Louisville/$3m) and Todd Graham (ASU/$3m).

Never said he was worth $4 million. But he would have to pay that to get him.

Doeren inherited a great situation at NIU. Fleck built WMU from the ground up by recruiting his tail off.

As IUS coach ,Cam Cameron talked down to and honked off many Indiana High School football coaches.I absolutely dont want Cam at Purdue..
