Freshman scrubs from Illinois slapped Purdue in the face hard

I've officially seen it all. Nothing gets me more angry than watching a team like purdue, ranked, unreal size advantage, experience, and goes to play a bunch of freshman and get just humiliated.

Purdue is slow, funkybunch, sloppy, and stupid. The coach played a stupid defense out there and if Hammons scores pulled him out immediately and puts in players that look slow enough to playing with ankle weights on. Hammons blocks a shot. And painter says pull him out. Hammons so much as makes a layup Painter yanks him out.

Can a college basketball team look any fatter and pot belly out there? Good god hit the weight room, run already. We have the fattest out of shape lethargic slow team ever!!!!!!!

Pot belly. Always loved that description

Their freshmen didn't "slap Purdue in the face", their juniors did. Apart from Jalen Coleman, none of their freshmen were outstanding, and even he only had 10 points (he averages 9 ppg).

The potbelly comment aside, I do agree with the OP in terms of the physical appearance of our guys. No definition in their arms, shoulders, or chests. Vince, Ray, Dakota, Stephens, Hammons all with 0 muscle tone. Hill too but he hasn't been with the program that long. Haas is cut but he was cut before he came here.
While muscle don't make a basketball player great, it can certainly have its advantages on offense and defense in terms of finishing in the lane and guarding in the post.

Definition is a product of low body fat along with some genetics. Just because our guys don't "look cut" doesn't mean they don't have muscle. I doubt the strength and conditioning team has them doing much with their arms anyway, I'd bet you would see a huge change in their lower body and torso from working with them.

Agreed. It's pretty tough to shoot a basketball with jacked arms, especially if you are really working to get them there. Sure there are plenty of guys (in the NBA) that are jacked and can shoot but those are genetic freaks. That's a terrible standard to hold guys to.

Don't know where to post this but ... what was painter yelling at RD when he fouled out?

The UI Rivals guy was close to that. He said that Painter told Davis not to foul Hill. He fouled Hill and fouled out. Painter told him that he just did what he told him not to do. Davis muttered something to Painter, and Painter responded with a "sit your "f-in a*s down." On tv, you could only see Painter's cussing, but those nearby saw what initiated it: a player talking back.

A few minutes later, Painter went down and talked to Davis. Everything was fine. It is no big deal. Many coaches cuss at players in the heat of the moment.

Sounds like some frustration between coach and captain. This "could" be a catalyst for the rest of the season or a beginning to something worse.

I've long wondered about that. What you're saying makes sense, but then I see a guy like Yogi shoot 40%+ from beyond the arc. For a guy his size, his arms gotta be nearly maxed out. Having watched him play in Indy at Park Tudor, I'm still kind of blown away by how much different his upper body looks compared to 4 years ago. And his 3-pt shot right now is the best it's ever been (%-wise).

I've seen Illinois play three or four times and until yesterday they never shot like that. Sometimes you get teams who are hot and they were smoking hot from outside. When a guy is making fall away jumpers from 15 feet and out, you're pretty much hosed, particularly if the zebras ain't giving you no breaks. (This is not a complaint about officiating, they called it fairly even just seemed to be a lot of pretty silly fouls.)
