That's encouraging. There's definitely a lot of talent, and I'm looking forward to seeing what Walters brings to the table.

No, a lot depends on how well the O line does this year. Followed by a core receivers team.

Michael Penix shows how a good QB without an equally good team surrounding him will fail.

I guess all that goes together , I was thinking how different Purdue looked when O Connell didn’t play in the Bowl game. Basically saying without a good QB , a team can’t move the ball, unless you have a heck of a running game

I think this season is going to be better than people think. We will be in a lot of games where Purdue only needs to score 11-18 points to win. It sounds like Yaseen is on track. I like sheffield in the slot. Miller will be outstanding. Mockobee is a stud and card can move, which reduces his need to be super accurate and get the ball out fast.

Add that Purdue will really excel against run heavy offenses relative to their talent level. So now, you just got way better against

Virginia Tech
Syracuse
Iowa
Minnesota
Illinois

Add the fact that with the portal, the Purdue’s of the world will just devastate your Fresno states early on, AND that Indiana and northwestern are a mess.. and in that group of 8 games … I think you have a good shot at six wins without stressing yourself too much.

The games that will tell the story of good vs great season are Ohio state and Michigan because of the talent disparity .. and Wisconsin and Nebraska. If those teams were still in their run heavy mode, Purdue would be a terrible matchup for them also. How quickly and effectively will they be able to switch it up to be a threat in the air?

Every defense has holes. To beat Walters defense, you have to be like brohm, but with an experienced QB who can threaten all areas of the field quickly and effectively.

Ask yourself who can do that. Indiana theoretically could with the right players but they are a mess. Mordecai and Wisconsin? Yeah maybe. Fresno state? Yes, but go look at their depth chart. It’s not good for them to come here for game one. Iowa? Sure the Michigan transfer is way better than petras but it’s more ferentz’s offense. Against teams like that Walters can line up 1000 lbs over the guards and center.

I thought we’d go 8-4 last year only because the schedule was weaker than weak. This year, I’m leaning toward 8-4 again. I think by the end of the year.. we will be dealing with podcasts asking if Walters is too good for Purdue.

We have been and perhaps always will be a team that lives and dies on it's QB play.

I think less so under Walters. Go check out the results of running teams against Illinois last year. Wisconsin put up ten early points then couldn’t do anything for the remainder of the game

I’m all about stopping the run defensively, but I’ve never seen Purdue recruit enough stud OLs and RBs to consistently run the ball. Our best rushing teams still depended on a future NFL QB to keep the defense from stacking the box.

Well yeah you need to pass well at Purdue, but much easier to do when you’re holding a good team to 10-13 points
