That would be like a walrus getting out of a chevette.
Damn.....they like to pack em in over here.....I'm used to eating sardines, not acting like one....

Ah...another one of these "only coaches who make it to a Final Four are successful" arguments.Important games are NCAA Tournament games. How about this...If CMP takes us to the Final Four this year, then I am on board extending his contract and giving him a major pay increase. If he doesn't...then I will have been right about him once again.
Painter has been here 11 years....so that's 44 missed spots in the Final Four. Maybe he's the 45th best coach?Ah...another one of these "only coaches who make it to a Final Four are successful" arguments.
Let's break this down: 351 D-1 men's basketball team. 4 spots in the Final Four. Based on your logic, 347 coaches each year had a failed season, an unsuccessful season.
Now I know you don't believe that. So what you're really doing is applying an unfair standard to Purdue's current head coach...arbitrarily. While many other coaches won't make it to the Final Four this year and yet will have had a successful season, Painter MUST get to a Final Four OR he is a failure.
Nice.

Putting us in a position to do well in a post-season single-elimination tournament year in and year out is my definition of success. It's called March Madness for a reason...requiring a Final Four berth is a bit much. I want it as much as anyone, but I'm not going to create an arbitrary and overly narrow definition of success just because I want it.Painter has been here 11 years....so that's 44 missed spots in the Final Four. My father in law has a 2015 with the eco boost six. I've driven it and it has plenty of power for typical truck use up to towing a boat. Might not drag a big fifth wheel with it though. Nice machine. So my lease is up on my F150 and I was heavily considering getting a 2016 F150 with the 2.7 twin turbo... anyone have one of these to give me a review?
I don't tow things and do a lot of highway driving... and am sticking with a truck because I'm a fairly big dude so space is important

Damn, put the glue down and screw the cap back on.
What a f'ng moron.
How old are you anyway? I'm guessing 10, but then again I hate to insult all the 10 year olds in the world.
Define great coach? Sure, Matt Painter. Define potential? Sure, Matt Painter. Bonus definition, cluless negatwitt with zero credibility? Sure, icewind7
Let's not talk about final 4, because this standard may be too far out of reach from some of your small minds. What about elite 8? Can you at least get to elite 8 in 11 years? Do you know why there are top 10% people in this world control 80% of the economy? Those 10% people don't think realistically like you.
I treat people how they deserve to be treated here and in real life. This thread is a direct response to all the whiney people that acted just like you posted here when calling for Painter to be fired. And now that they have massive amounts of egg on their face, they deserved to be called out on it. Don't like it? Tough, wear some big boy pants and deal with it.Are you a dick to everyone in real life or just on the internet where there are no real consequences? Not sure why you are such an instigator to other Purdue fans. You speak as if you are in some elite fan class. Posting a snarky thread topic like this just shows you're out to argue. That's bad juju homie.
You're not hurting my feelings bub. If Painter can't win in the tournament then I don't want him here. Looks like we'll see again this year unless things just absolutely fall apart from here on out.
Not sure I'd start a thread bashing other Purdue fans after a win. That's petty. Your lame fake tough guy antics are tired. Take your own advice and "put on your big boy pants" and stop talking sh*t on the internet to your similar fan base nonetheless.
Most of us (with the exception of the IU trolls) are here because we love Purdue, myself included. You get off bashing others that post on here (including myself) fine. But starting a thread that you know with start a fight on here is weak and cowardly. Do better.
He is defending our coach from our own fans. Good for him. If you are looking to run off the coach, don't expect those that appreciate our coach to remain silent about it. You absolutely should be mocked and shamed when some of the ridiculous criticisms here are shown to be without merit.

Exactly this and thanks. As I have said many times, I didn't start this but am damn sure going to call out the ones that did.He is defending our coach from our own fans. Good for him. So clearly you're instigating. Just knock that sh*t off and post what you have to say. No need to start fires. Makes you no better than those you complain about.
Nope sorry, you aren't the forum police so I am going to post what I want and call out the people that deserve calling out. Again since it seems to be getting under your skin so much, tough. Put on some big boy pants and deal with it or keep crying, I don't really care.Sticks and stones. Eyes are dry on this side of the conversation. Calling people out via the WWW doesn't take a hero. You think that when someone disagrees with you that that are crying. There's that fake tough guy again.
Just trying to help clean up some of the trash posting on this board so it can be a little more enjoyable.
I know you can't be serious with the title of this thread because he just got an extension. So clearly you're instigating. Just knock that sh*t off and post what you have to say. No need to start fires. Makes you no better than those you complain about.
Whiners whine. Kessel whines about whiners whining. Whiners whine back about being whined at for whining. mosquitoes to the zapper. You know those of you that don't like his post do yourself a disservice by replying and bumping it right?
If you don't like what he has to say, don't respond and the thread will get buried most likely.
If Painter continues to field a top 20 team, shows progress and has even marginal success in the tourney, he will keep getting extensions. No AD will fire a coach that has any of that going on, well, IMO anyway. You guys have said forever that we Painter complainers can whine all we want; Painter ain't gonna be fired. And you're right, but now there's a new sheriff in town, and especially after the fiasco that is the woman's program after she got an extension: I got news for you Painter ain't getting an extension until he does something, something real (an elite eight, at least). And if he doesn't and soon, I am staying with my prediction, Painter will be out of here by 2021.
People continue to over react: just as people were silly for saying fire Painter after Minnesota, to say extend Painter after beating Wisconsin at home is equally silly.

this is a no-win argument you know. At some point in the NCAA's we are going to lose. At least being a top 15 team, means sweet sixteen. This is a good team, but few of us believe it is an FF team - meaning top 4 team. So at some point, you will proudly announce you were right, and the rest of us are wrong, because we Painter "can't win the big game". If we had a top 4 team, and he didn't make the FF, then you might have an argument. As it stands now, you are just telling all of us the glass is half-empty, and are just provoking controversy.Important games are NCAA Tournament games. How about this...If CMP takes us to the Final Four this year, then I am on board extending his contract and giving him a major pay increase. I won't say he could never be fired but I will say that he's not even close right now and if he has seasons like this through the next few years he will get another extension.
I won't predict on if and when Painter gets an extension or canned. But, I can tell you that if he continues to get bounced in the first round, "He gone". You can look "pretty" all season long, but the tourney is really where coaches are measured. I really don't care if Painter is fired or not right now. But, I can tell you, that if he takes another first round loss? I'm in the "Fire Painter" crowd. All this talk about Biggie and POY and how awesome Painter has done...to then excuse an early exit is hypocritical. This board if full of folks who just don't settle, and some who'd settle for anything...then some in the middle like me. I'm not going to get high or low right now. I'll call a bad loss a bad loss. I'll call a good win a good win. Some of y'all just don't have the capacity to do that.
This board has some folks who settle in their personal lives and then try to demand greatness from the sports teams they follow so they have something to feel good about. You can think you're the majority if you want. Doesn't change reality and frankly I'm not at all concerned about losing first round this year anyway. One thing I'm plenty old enough to realize is that there will always be people to bitch about something. If we lose in the 2nd round this year, there will be people who want him fired for that. Hell, someone in this thread wants him gone unless he makes a Final Four. That kind of proves my point right there. You just have to roll your eyes at the idiots in life and move on.
Coach K is great. Izzo is not even close to Coach K. Izzo is only considered great because of some screwed up reason that we celebrate 4th place in college basketball. I don't hear Ohio State and Washington crowing about their football season right now but in all reality making the college football playoffs is more meaningful than making a Final Four because objective people determined that your season made you worthy of being one of the top 4 teams in the country. Every year we usually see at least one team make the Final Four who nobody would consider a top 4 team in the country.
Izzo is only considered great because of some screwed up reason that we celebrate 4th place in college basketball? Are you serious?
In 21 seasons, he has 1 National Championship, 7 final fours, 7 Big Ten Championships, 19 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, 72% overall winning percentage, 69% winning percentage in the Big Ten.
I don't like him winning recruits over us or his sideline antics as much as anybody, but when you look at his whole body of work, I think you can easily consider him great, and not just because "of some screwed up reason that we celebrate 4th place in college basketball".
1 for 7 in Final Fours is his claim to fame. Not celebrating winning. Celebrating fourth place.
His 7 final fours are his claim to fame. Only 4 coaches have ever been to more, one of which only won it all only twice in 11 trips. His overall body of work is indicative of a great coach. Even though I don't like the guy, I'm not too biased to give him his credit for what he has done over the past 21 seasons.
Quoting and bumping because this is one of the best responses yet.this is a no-win argument you know. At some point in the NCAA's we are going to lose. No less proof than the assumptions that get thrown out here about people that "settle" for mediocrity. That said you were awfully defensive about it. Think it must have struck a nerve.
What do you know about people's personal lives on here? So why even add that to the discussion?
Being the VP of an IT company or being unemployed doesn't really affect the way I view the Purdue basketball program.
I am OK with Painter as the coach but he's on a short leash with me because of his lack of success in the tournament lately when having good teams. But according to some here my "opinion" is wrong so that's why I call people out for their BS on here.
Again, you then I expect will "call out" people of the fire Painter schtick or you're a hypocrite. What do you know about people's personal lives on here? So why even add that to the discussion?

I'm "wrong" too then as that is my opinion for the most part. Personally I don't really care what Painter has done in the past (non-recent past that is) because that is the past. We start focusing too much on things that happened 6 years or so ago and we start to look like those IU subway alumns that yell "WE HAVE BANNERS" as you laugh at them in the drive-thru.I am OK with Painter as the coach but he's on a short leash with me because of his lack of success in the tournament lately when having good teams.
