Evan Battey

Says a guy who apparently hasn't been following our recruiting offers all year.
I think he was maybe toward the bottom of plan A. I would be OK with getting him but I think we can all agree that if he's our highest ranked recruit, it will be somewhat underwhelming.

I view him like I viewed Vince Edwards. He may be a low four star, but he has the versatility needed to excel at forward in Painter's system. I agree that JJJ was probably Painter's number one target, but I really hope that Battey chooses Purdue, tomorrow.

JJJ and Malik Williams were targets #1 and 1A.

I just saw a tweet from Jeff Borzello that he is announcing tomorrow. The timing does sound promising.
I wonder....if Battey chooses the Boilers today.....how does that affect Tillman's decision?
I think Tillman is already leaning to MS, but the idea of immediately stepping in to start might have been Purdue's best selling point. Regardless, lets get the 2017 class started. Once the first chip falls, I think many more will follow.

Losing a basketball recruit to Colorado would be a really, really, bad sign. I can't imagine what Colorado could offer from a basketball perspective that's better than Purdue.

You mean other than this?

Not to mention that he's from California and might actually like to play in the Pac-12 so his family can see him play.

If location mattered, there's plenty of places to go where he doesn't have to deal with snow, ice and cold. Maybe he likes to burn fatties?

Take away the mountains and crunchy chicks and it looks pretty similar.

That is the problem with you chicken littles. Aside from being extremely out of touch with the current generation of recruits, you think that players play at schools just based on who they are.

Newsflash, it doesn't work that way and your picture proves it. If he chooses Colorado it will be for the location and the mountains probably moreso than anything else most likely. You are still trapped in the recruiting age of old and need to come to grips that for the majority of the schools out there, which includes Purdue, all things are essentially equal now. Which will make it even harder to recruit.

Have you been to Boulder? It isn't similar to West Lafayette at all.

It all depends on the young man and what he values. I think that he would be smart to play for Painter where the offense will likely run through him at some point, but what I think doesn't matter.

So, why not go play at USC, UCLA, Arizona, Pepperdine, Stanford, Oregon, Washington, etc, etc, etc. They all have nice campuses, nice weather, close to home and are better basketball programs than Colorado.
But, he'll probably end up at Purdue anyway.

Yeh, I've been to Boulder. And I've been to Flint, and Columbus, and Ann Arbor and Madison, etc, etc, etc. My point being, the program and head coach is much, much, much more important than the location.
Rarely, if ever, are two programs so close in a recruits mind that the location is the determining factor.
If location mattered, there's be a lot more good SEC basketball schools outside of UK and UF.

And this statement right here shows just how out of touch you are with today's recruiting. My guess is you are old and still think things work like they did in the 70's. You need to get with the times grandpa.

I'm not one of those that gets too worried about recruits and don't follow them on Twitter but recently I looked at Bateys and Tillmans Twitter pages and you can see what they like or retweet. If you went by that, Tillman seems heavy on Marquette and MSU and not much for Purdue. Yesterday after Batey tweeted he was announcing, both Purdue and Colorado fans tweeted at him. He liked all the Colorado ones and none of Purdues. I know we don't know for sure but gut feeling isn't good.
With that feeling plus Manley being offered by UNC and losing other guys, I will say I wonder who is left we're in on? With getting only one 2016 and Biggie possibly going pro, it is a little cause for concern for future

Are you kidding? He's absolutely correct.

The coach/coaching staff matters far more than the location. You're a moron.

Grand Moff Tarkin: Enough of this. Vader, release him! Darth Vader: As you wish. [drops his hand, and Motti staggers back to table]
Grand Moff Tarkin: This bickering is pointless. Now Lord Vader will provide us with the location of the hidden Rebel fortress. We will then crush the Rebellion with one swift stroke.

We need some good news, even it's not huge news to some.

Go Boilers!
(This was my 4000th post!!!) I must need therapy.

Ignoring for the moment that this - to me - appears to be a completely ludicrous statement, how could you possibly project what factors drove his decision? Did I miss a mountain-loving comment from him recently, or are you ascribing this fascination with mountains to him just because that is something Colorado offers that Purdue doesn't?

Did you say earlier that you were a grad student at Purdue? How'd that happen?

I think some continue to just troll, be sarcastic here.

last month, he specifically stated location was not important

People.... Stop feeding the troll.

Second if we don't get Battey the sky isn't falling, nor is it a sign of anything more than he chose somewhere else. Hell some on here didn't even really want him.

Even if the 17 class isn't great for us, the sky still isn't falling. As long as we win I don't care who signs with us and who doesn't.

The thing is, the recruits that Purdue gets have a very large impact on whether or not Purdue will win.

Going to be tough to win with a bunch of 2nd and 3rd option players.

Obviously you don't understand that the only factor in recruiting is the coach.
