Ennis is a no-go

I'm not believing anything till I see GoldandBlack confirm it or another source, not hypehoopsCA.

Dang, need someone to run the point for us. I'm not sure if this team improves after losing Octeus if we don't get a talented PG.

I don't think we need all that talented of a point myself. I mean yeah he can't suck, but there are plenty of PG's out there (if this tweet is true) that can do what we need to be very successful.

If this is true, then Purdue is the only school he cut from his list. Kind of weird this happened just after Painter went to Philly. Must not have been a good visit. Seems odd he would go to the trouble of putting out a new list with only one team cut - must have had a very strong negative experience. Wonder what happened?

Painter thinks a whole lot of GW, has hyped the comparison to Kramer for a long while.......maybe he is his guy @ point??

Yeah, this is what I was thinking. I don't know how much I trust that tweet. So he cut his list from 8 to 7? Who does that?

Also, the original tweet had Illinois left off the list, then they added it in later. I think there's a possibility this tweet is regurgitating the original list that Ennis released and they left Purdue off (and Illinois too initially) in error. We will see...

What I liked about Octeus was how hard/well he played defense. I think that is what you need. A hard nosed PG who is a really good defender. Any offensive production would be a bonus.

You know I am wondering now that IF this is true (still not buying it until there is something more "official") if Painter didn't visit him and tell him we moved on to someone else? There are just plenty of fish in the sea and we need someone that fits us as much as we need to fit them.

Sounds like Weatherford from what others have said. Time will tell.

I'm not sold on Weatherford ... yet. If he can come in and play defense like Kramer did and pass like he did, then I think we all would be happy. But I think we still need a one year deal with someone.

Just means PJ would fall farther down the rotation I would imagine.

Dylan Ennis transfer list cut to seven— Duke, Tennessee, LSU, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Baylor and Oregon.

I realize this may come off as 'trolling,' but I think Ennis coming from Villanova (slightly superior program) hurt Purdue's chances (to Octeus, Purdue was a definite step up). For whatever reason, I get the feeling that the other schools he listed, seem to be more 'attractive' programs right now.

I know Purdue's bball program, without a doubt, is better than Tennessee and Oregon, but even those programs seem to be able to attract top-level talent.

Regardless, I think Purdue will be fine. PJ is a year older, and Weatherford should provide a defensive spark and an 'in your face' attitude out on the court.

Illinois isn't a better program. If anything they are equal.

The only school that is "superior" on his list is Duke.

The rest are pretty much equal, or lesser.

I would say NOVA being "slightly superior" is debatable, but imma let it slide for now.

I agree. I think the only, truly superior program on that list is Duke. However, I think there is a 'perception' out there, and Purdue, for whatever reason, doesn't seem to be perceived as well as some other programs. For instance, Baylor was nothing for years, but, now, their program is completely revitalized and identifies with recruits. It's almost as if they had a 'makeover.'

I don't think Baylor had anywhere else to go but up when they melted down with one player shooting another. And I'm not sure how much better they are perceived than Purdue but unless we take a poll of recruits I'm not sure anyone would know. No question about Duke, but the others are iffy for sure.

How about we just leave it at he is transferring from a really good team for very specific reasons and we had a very specific need that didn't match what he was looking for? How hard is that to just live with?

Hoops Hype CA has been where all the Ennis news has been coming from. They were the first to put out his initial list.

Baylor has gotten three 5-star recruits since 2010. There is a definite attraction to play for that program.

anyone know what happened here?
A guess? When Painter met with him, he laid out his expectations and it didn't fit what DE wanted or the other way around. People on here will speculate until the end of time, but the truth is we probably will never know and it may end up being something we didn't think of.

Well, it seems to be legit info, so this sucks.

I hope it didn't come down to something like Ennis asking if he was the likely starter at the 1 and Painter saying something like, "There are no certainties. You're gonna have to compete with P.J. Thompson and Grant Weatherford and earn it."

Why?

If it bothers him if he wasn't a guaranteed starter, then yeah…see ya.

He could just tell him that he has the upper hand, as long as he is always giving it his all.

Okay. And this has gotten them what over Purdue? Maybe it's just me but I'm not blown away by their success to the point where I'd say it's definite that they are better perceived as a program than Purdue.

Baylor puts an in insane amount of money into their athletics. Basically any school in Texas has tons of money. I was in Dallas for an internship this past summer and attended a TCU game and they were completely renovating their football and basketball facilities.

I think Baylor has been to three Elite 8's under Scott Drew

You don't think a head coach should sell a prospect on the idea of playing time?

I didn't say that. I'm saying you are MAKING UP the convo in your head that went on when you have NO idea at all what was said.

We need someone that we can inbound the ball to at the end of games that won't dribble it off their foot or throw it out of bounds, and can maybe make a free throw. Cincinnati, Illinois, and Rutgers proved that.

seems we don't have any luck w/ guys named Ennis for our teams.
