Eden Ewing to Purdue

Looks like a jacob lawson type player.

That's the first player who came to mind for me also. 6'8, good athlete.
From what little video I've seen, looks like he's got better ball handling skills the JL. Will be interesting to see how MP uses him.
With no defections next year, we'd go 7'2, 7, 6'10, 6'9, 6'9, 6'9,6'9.
I realize you gotta have skill with the size, but that's a lot of size (unlikely it's all still here next year though).

What offers did Lawson have at the time he committed to Purdue?

Similar to Ewings, probably better for Lawson... Georgetown, Va Tech, Mississippi, Wake Forest and Seton Hall compared to LSU, Iowa State and Fresno State per 24/7 (Rivals has nothing on Ewing).

You're totally missing the magnitude of this commit. This puts Purdue back on the recruiting map

What in the Hell are you two talking about? This is exactly what Purdue needed to bring us a national championship .

Boiler Up

It's funny because there are people here who will try to spin it that way, somehow, someway.

2017 recruiting has been below average when it was billed by EVERYONE to be the most important year of recruiting Painter has faced. I'm not writing off those guys, as there is always potential and the element of the unknown, but so many were hoping/expecting a 2007 type of class where we had 2 top 50 guys and 4 top 100 overall and we are ending up with more of a 2009 class where you have maybe one guy you are somewhat excited about (Byrd in 09, Wheeler in 17) and some unknown bigs (09 included Byrd, Marcius, Barlow and Bade) that people will hype up initially.

Again, time will tell, but it sure feels like 2009 on paper.

Ya i wouldn't say this is as bad as 2011 with lawson and hale, but its not a class that screams ncaa success that's for sure.

Barlow could have been very good...if his head were a little different. Purdue got Byrd and IU got Elston...

Do any intelligent posters( meaning this would exclude tc4three) have any links that would show how our class currently stacks up with the rest of the b1g?

Counting ewing, that leaves one open spot next year.
Do we wait for eastern and not take haase even if he wanted to commit?
Save it for another expected strong 2018 class?

Yeah, Barlow could've, but he wasn't. Lot's of "could have's" like Scott, RJ, Barlow, Stephens, etc. that don't pan out. Byrd was ok, and sure, much better than the tripper. But if a Byrd type is the best we get out of 2017, then that is not a win for Purdue, especially for what should be a top 25 program with a loaded class in it's own state.

I would take Byrd in a second over Elston again and again
I was at the end of the gym in Tipton with Dakich right behind me and Meyer (his asst, now at Michigan) was watching an already offfered and I think verbal of Elston to IU. Meyer thought Elston was the best in the state and said Byrd was too slow. Elston had some physical tools, but I think most would say that Bryd had a better personal basketball career...not that either would be remembered 40 years from now. :) Dakich kept saying he didn't know why he was there because IU wasn't going to hire him...

What I don't know is if Barlow was a problem in the team setting or just his off court antics which forced Matt's hand. I know there were times the last two years I wouldn't have minded seeing a much more mature 6'5" athlete that could get to the rim, handle the ball and defend at the point.

There are 2-3 people on there that you should ignore. I don't love that option, because most people, even with differing opinions and ideas can offer SOMETHING. Just a suggestion after reading your posts in this thread and another. Ignoring 2 people has saved me a lot of headache, as I can discuss/debate Purdue basketball with almost anyone... almost.

Sure hope not. Still curious if we have him for 2 or 3 years. I could only find 1 year of stats for him so I am thinking 3.

Two years. You listed his stats from last season, so this season would obviously be his sophomore season.

Ya im not a fan of ignore either. Probably would be a good idea to just do it and end the arguments with what appears to be a child that's fully grown.

You ignoring me has saved me much headache as well. Now when you post something dumb and I respond, it is over. I don't have to then respond to your moronic rationalizations to try to justify your foolish position. Would not bother me in the least if other fools would do the same.

All of you need to stop this childish arguing sh!t. You motherlovers are ruining this board...Painter will never be able to recruit like Izzo until he could prove that his teams could win in the tournament. That's why MSU will have a top recruiting class and we will be in the middle of the B1G. Period.

yep, yep, and yep.

And your grammar is poor as well. You meant below, not above.
just stop. Your provocation of others slides you out of the rational poster category. I don't think you want that here, because lfe can get tough if you continue down this path.

In hindsight, it appears geography was never an advantage. None of the 2017 recruits chose in state schools.
