Just thinking about that, if not, there's the potential to take 8 good teams out of bowls (which would weaken some of them). Next question is how many players would opt out of a post-playoff bowl game, again weakening the product.

No one has cared about bowls for a few years now.

To be truthful the schools in the playoffs benefit more than going to a bowl game. Or at least half of them will. The top 8 teams all get to play one home game. I imagine the revenue Penn st, OSU and Tennessee will make playing a playoff game at home will far surpass the revenue they would make playing in a bowl game where they have to share the revenue from a bowl game with the other big 10 teams.
