Yeah, it's legit. Kid comes from super athletic family. UCLA will certainly be in the mix for him. The Sleepers guys have a video on Youtube about Painter being there to watch him.
Here’s a 6’10 kid (18th ranked nationally) from 2027 we just offered:

Not trying to be mean here, Wole…but the kid is 7’2 at 15 and is on USA bball teams and has other offers already…while I agree painter can def identify talent, he def did not find this kid before anyone else.
His dad was drafted in the nba and is 7’1. Has a sister at ucla who was named national defensive player of the year and is 6’7 and pretty good. Other sister is really good in 2025 apparently as well (number 1 or 2 player depending on who you ask in rhe 2025 class). Shes also goin to ucla. Bball is deep in that family….gonna be tough to fight off Cronin for their little bro.

I’ll just ask one question. What other official offers does he have and from who? I’ll agree he is not some hidden nugget. But it sure appears that Painter. Is not afraid to be one of his first official offers! And that’s what Painter does. He doesn’t wait until he sees a polished player in his junior year. If he sees bonified talent, he goes for it. He doesn’t hesitate! And that Painter is a very good judge of talent.
UNLV and Washington offered before. He’s on USA teams already, more offers coming. I am not calling you out here. Just think it may be a bit early for all other offers since it’s 3 years away still…I’m sure he will have over 50+ offers by this time next year.

You just endorsed and verified my comments. I’m confident he will end up with over 100+ offers from elite basketball programs. He may or may not sign with Purdue. But Washington and UNLV are not exactly top 10 basketball powerhouses.
My point is simply, many schools are scouting him, but Painter is usually the first elite coach to make an offer.
You said he is the first to find and identify talent. This kid is class of 2028. He’s 7’2 at 15 and moves well. I think any one of us would offer immediately if we were a D1 coach 😂

He wasn’t the first to find and identify great talent here… yes he offered but most coaches aren’t extending 2028 schollies. Not an issue of finding and identifying just timing.
Also we will have other centers between Jacobsen and 2028. Isaiah Hill (2027) is probably going to come here unless he chases rhe money sack to Bloomington which is unlikely.

Yeah Purdue and others have money to spend. Just aren’t out there yelling it from the tree tops / give it to just anyone. If the team down south spent that much on what they’ve got for this upcoming year…then yikes. But doesn’t matter much.
Indiana has estimated $11m to purdues estimated $8m. Doesn’t sound like much but Purdue has a lot of that money locked up and I’m not sure we will get $8m every year we hit up our deep pockets to keep this team together next year. Indiana is not deep the least bit and has ability to overpay. I’m not saying they will get double or triple but it will be sizable. And its not like I’m speculating, they are going after Hill hard.
Either way there’s probably only 2 other teams in B1G that get $8m+. We should be fine but if players go for the highest bid it won’t be us all the time.

Not making up numbers. Just noting what has been reported by actual reporters behind paywalls. Chill out, clearly you are angry about the fact indiana has more money to spend. It hasn’t been an issue yet.
The important point here is that Purdue does not NEED to spend as much because Purdue has a great coach and great program. Iu has had bad coaches and a bad program while wasting more money on worse teams with worse results. It's actually quite comical.

The so-called house settlement. Will have provisions in it much like a salary cap. I have seen reports Purdue's collective is so fat with cash it is likely to be the most in the B10. It sure seems like it with millions being spent on football and women's BB. I am hearing at least in the B10 this is the last year of free spending. Which will hurt the big money teams of which Purdue is one. Money doesn't always buy you success as IU found out last year, but a lack of money will doom your program as Fran can verify. IMO to compete year in and year out it comes down to coaching more than ever. If money can buy you a winner our football team should be in good shape LOL!
Free spending maybe, but under the table will return for the same cheaters that dished them out in the past. The only thing that will have changed will be the starting point, from $0 to whatever the max set number will be.
