Duke - Wisconsin Turned out be a Good Game

Bo ran into bigger whiner and got beat at his own game. Badger offense seemed to panic and often over passed which is odd given their experience.

Probably because he didn't get any calls until the game was out of reach. Duke's comeback had a few charges that should have been called

Couple of missed charges, missed Winslow stepping on the end line. I'd say that Duke got away with a lot of physical play and push offs, but that the Badgers benefitted from the refs letting them play. Wisky over dribbled out top, over passed on several occasions and Dekker just plain didn't show up.

I say they get rid of all instant replay because nobody can ever get the flippin call right.... such a joke lol...

Wisky got screwed....

You can bet coach K put a bug in the refs ear about the first half foul situation. Duke also obviously touched the ball on that call toward the end. Coach K said it best... 8 is enough. He had 5 on the floor and the 3 refs in the second half.

13 more Ft's without Okafor.... ya it was in whisky's favor???!!! Wtf are you talking about?

Bo Ryan's theme song, when I don't get the call I want, I'm going to "Cry like a baby". With that said, officiating was just brutal in the second half. Whisky played better with Oakafor and Winslow in the game, they seemed to get away from what they are with them out of the game, and Dekker just threw up another air ball from behind the arc.

I will just say one of the refs that worked the blake griffin vs purdue game worked that game last night. I get I shouldn't base a career on one instance, but if that instance is that bad, I sure as heck will. 46-5 free throws, 28-15 fouls, 4 guys on Oklahoma each shot more than purdue as a team! A ref who was in a game as horrendously one sided as that one should instantly be taken out of consideration for a final four. I don't care how good the rest of his career is, clearly he can be influenced. I might still be a little bitter. Hahaha

Wisconsin plays in the Big Ten which is known as a physical conference and yet they lose and Bo is crying about physical play. How about show some class like Coach K and congratulate Duke at beating you at your own game.

The NCAA only wants one thing.

$$$. You're right - they got it. Just like they do every year.

Re: The NCAA only wants one thing.

I don't think the NCAA cares which team wins the NC. It gets $$$$$ either way. I do think that there are situations where the refs influence a game improperly. Not all games, and not all refs, but there has to be some corruption based on the slant of the calls we have seen in these big games. After the Madison Square Garden/Blakely nonsense we got handed, I firmly beleive that high profile games are being influenced by some people who want to direct the outcome.

It is sad that of all people, I would think this, because I am a trusting person in general and usually think that most people are honest in their efforts. After what I saw in this latest game, I do think the NCAA needs to investigate its referees. Something is going on under the table. No conspiracy stays hidden for long, and eventually someone will spill the beans. I just hope it is sooner rather than later, so the NCAA can clean house.

How often do you see the foul situation in the first half reversed in the second half. Wisky only had 2 fouls at the half. On top of that, Duke had two starters with two fouls. The officials know this and want to protect the star players.

Personally, I think Wisky gets away with a lot of fouling based on their reputation (remember Purdue-Wisky final 8 game years ago). The problem: the badgers ran into a team that has even a better reputation than them.

All season long Wisconsin was able to execute their offense because they were able to draw the D out to the perimeter and let Frank abuse his opponent. Last night Puke was able to anchor their D in the paint and still challenge the 3 pointer. And yes it was rougher than Wiscy was used to. Bo said the team didn't get the calls they were used to getting and it frustrated them. In other words, they got their way all season until they got to coach K. Twice.
The worst part of the whole thing for me is that everybody's season is over. I don't watch the NBA so it's done now.
Some great recruiting news would sure be nice though. Btfu!

Change the Game

What "I" would like to see, instead of making the game faster with a shorter shot clock...game is too fast already for the officials to get it right is....in the NCAA Tourney games, the 4th official on stand-by in case of an injury to the "3" in the game put into the TV truck and he reviews all the reviewable calls! Away from the crowd and coaches intimidation, and away from making the crew look good when a call is incorrect!

In total in the three games just too many blown calls some they couldn't review, like the shot clock, change the rule, some for what ever reason weren't called foot out-of-bounds and the finger tip on the ball that I guess they couldn't or wouldn't see on the replay!

Wisc was up 48-39 with 12:20 to go then proceeded to crap the bed. Couldn't hit a shot down the stretch and the freshman guards for Duke were clutch. The play with the ball going out of bounds was really bad. How did they get that wrong? But other than that I thought it was ok officiating. Not the best but par for the course as far as college refs go...

It was a joke that the Mathias out of bounds was reversed and that one wasn't (when the Mathias had 0 close shots of it).

I think part of the problem is that they're reviewing it on the side of the court on a 15 inch monitor.

As someone else mentioned, replay in college basketball is pretty bad - if you're going to do it, do it right. You just basically need someone to be sitting on press row and can review them as necessary.

Wisky also didn't take advantage of things in the first half, they missed 7 layups and went 3-7 at the line.

What I thought was crazy is that the officials were a good 10 feet away from the monitor. The monitor appeared to be at floor level. My friends and I were at the game wondering why on earth the officials weren't getting closer to the monitor to watch. They were all standing back and straight up.
