Down goes #1 KU and #2 Auburn

1, 2, 5 15, 18 & 20 got beat. That ought to mix things up a bit.

Actually 1,2,5,15,18, and 20 rankings mean nothing once you step on the court. Watch out for Maryland IMO we are fortunate to play them at home. Win our two games and come Monday we will be top 3. IMO Auburn is still the top team no shame losing at Duke.

I saw MD was making a statement the other night. Yes Purdue better bring all they have in the next 2 and focus hard on just beating those two B10 opponents. Forget about TX A&M, Auburn.

It does point out that particularly in an era where whole rosters turn over each season, it’s tough to tell who is actually good in November and early December. I think this Purdue team is good but we’ll know a lot more after the next four games.

It is what makes MBB in Nov and Dec fun. Teams continue to develop, learn, and grow so that Jan and Feb are about refining and chemistry, so that come March you are ready to battle.

I feel this team is a bit behind where they were at this point last year, all to be expected with the loss of talent. Once this team defines their identity and builds that chemistry, they will be good team. Not great, but good. I see the entire year as a development year for the FF push next season as this team will be TOUGH AS NAILS.

I agree with alot of what you are saying. Save one item....

Now that Colvin & Heide are providing the 4th scorer.......I don't see any major difference between this team by March this year or next March. Slightly better, sure. But to be just a good team in March 25 which I agree....But then being a great FF team in March 26. ....that's a major difference with pretty much the same core players.

Unless players are added that provide that difference. This includes a possible healthy DJ.....which his continued health maybe can be counted on....maybe not? That I hope, and we will see. But hope another guy is added besides our core+ DJ

You mean DJ, correct?

And the more experience and confidence players get, the better. That’s why they can be a great team next year in 26.

Can be a great team this year IF they get hot at the right time. Somehow 3pete and make a little tourney run by hitting shots. March is all about matchups so until then, hope this team keeps getting better. So far, they have.

Like everyone is saying, a tough 4 game stretch coming up to see what this team is made of. Historically, Purdue is not good in December with conference opponents. Hopefully that changes this year.

Yes and corrected.

I think there's reason for optimism that Cam, Colvin, and the freshman guards will get significantly better between now and March. I'm also optimistic that the team defense will continue to improve as players get used to their roles and playing together without Zach.

I don't know if that improvement this year and next combined with the (hopeful) return of a healthy DJ and the emergence of RB is enough to make this team a legitimate NC contender, but unless we lose one or more current players, I'd be very surprised if MP and staff are adding someone via the portal.

What a lot of people don't get is that one of the reasons Matt didn't add anyone via the portal this year is the desire to get that pt to younger players this year to gear up for an NC run next season.

As a general college basketball fan I love all of these big time matchups in the non con. So much fun to watch how big ten does and teams purdue has played. Love to see Purdue push itself with such a difficult schedule. Unlike iu who plays no one with a pulse outside of their tourney.

The comparison was March 25 to March 26....so obviously Colvin and Heide, etc. going to improve until March, but that's not the time period we are talking.

Thus, improvement has to come from somewhere to get to FF level. There will have to be both a drastic improvement of both Burgess and DJ to come anywhere near the FF next year. So either they improve or another guy is added for a FF run. I prefer both.....as an insurance policy.

(Yes Harris, Cox or West will add ability- but starters in March will still be the ones in 25-26)

I believe the loss of Jacobson had an impact on our team’s play. Painter had his starting lineup planned and then had to do a major makeover. He tried Berg and Furst and Butgess and it just didn’t work. So now we have a small ball lineup with Tkr at center. Painter is starting his best 5 players. It would have been different with Jacobson, but it is what it is. Purdue’s depth made it possible to make the change.

I’m not sure why you’re writing off not only this season but next before we’ve reached January. I don’t see any basis for concluding that we need to add players before we know how this season will shape up.

I think the biggest difference will be age honestly. Right now we are one of the youngest teams in the big ten. If not the youngest. Next year we will be one of the oldest. Also, the competition will change, no more Covid players on other teams.

We downplay it here with the trust paint mantra, but we have an uphill battle with the number of freshman we have going against Covid guys.

I think you are missing something:

Loyer 3P shooting:

Frosh - 32.6%
Soph - 44.4%
Junior - 58.6%
Sr (projected) - 73.4%
