Does being the #5 team in the country get you calls you would not otherwise get?

I thought that both the out of bounds call being overturned and Haas getting the foul call at the end of the game were the right call, but I was shocked to get one of those calls, much less both, on the road in a conference game. That's the exact type of call that it seems Purdue has not typically gotten in the past.

Do you think the #5 ranking helps to ensure you get a fair shake on the road? I'd think that any win for Purdue is good for the conference at this point.

Possibly. The foul surprised me more. The Video did show it was our ball. They could have wimped out and said it was inconclusive, but they had the video to prove it. The foul though was a surprise and honestly a brave call.

The over-turned out-of-bounds call surprised me more. I couldn't really see anything conclusive on tv.

Wagner's last foul on Haas looked like a foul to me. In addition to having his arm wrapped around Haas's waist, Wagner was draped all over him as the ball came in.

That was a foul. But two others on Wagner during the game probably weren't. Good review of the out of bounds play.

You’re damn right it does! I will take it.

That was a foul, but most of the time:
you don't get that call in the closing seconds of a game... and
Haas doesn't get that call... and
you don't get that call on the road... and
Purdue doesn't get that call because we're Purdue.

I agree - although I think you could pretty much tell on the tape (the one overhead shot showed it pretty obviously). However, since the call was Michigan ball that tends to weight heavy in any sort of doubtful situation.

The foul on Wagner was pretty obvious.

Really? I thought the 2 replay views clearly showed Michigan contact with the ball last. Even the trajectory made it obvious IMHO.

I saw the same thing. Great swipe by Mathias down, then the ball when out horizontally. Matthews pushed it out.

Haas was getting mugged all game too.

Really great win to pull that out on the road. I think we all really need to enjoy this team

Clearly the swipe was downward, yet the ball was off at an angle where Matthews' palm was pointing, up and away.

The key was ball trajectory. No way Dakotas chopndown on top of the ball couses it to change direction in a horizontal fashion without input from Mathews hand afterwards.
Sort of a “magic lugie” situation.

Or a "second" shooter.....

We didn’t get a lot of calls last night, but we sure got them on those last critical possessions. I was concerned after we got a call or two early and Beilein started riding the refs that we wouldn’t get another one the rest of the night. That is what typically happens on the road. I do think after those early calls they let Michigan be a bit more physical with our post players- all the more reason the ending was so surprising.

There were actually three potential “home calls” at the end that could have been made- the Dakota chop could have been whistled a foul. Seen it before where the ref anticipates the contact in that situation. Then for the video reversal where they could have (and usually do- see the @Iowa game last year) played the “indesputable evidence” card, and then to get the call against Wagner was almost surreal.

Ask Haas who is still getting mugged every game, all game....lol!

This is from an Indiana fan, so no need to roast me as it is just an opinion...
--Thought it was inconclusive, and should have been Michigan ball, and looked like Mathias pushed with one hand and swiped with the other.
--Definitely a foul on Wagner. Glad to see refs not swallowing whistle just because it is end of game situation.
Watched the end of Kentucky and A&M, and the refs did not call an obvious hold on Kentucky, and it was much worse than the mugging on Haas.

Thanks for your opinion. Next!

The physics of the ball movement indicated a second force on the ball. The UM kid pushed it sideways after Mathias struck downward. Correct call by the refs.

Physics is not always a strong suit for referees. Since you could not see when contact from either guy actually ended with the ball form any of the video shots I was very surprised we got the call. I agree totally with you but I did not expect that kind of consideration, if you can't see ball contact on the video, to result in a reversal of the call on the floor. Be honest, did you really expect them to reverse it? Have you ever seen it done before?
