Disappointed this team looks like it quit...

LOL which of those would you have done against Kansas?

Zone a team that is one of the best 3 point shooting teams in the country? Great idea!

Putting pressure/trapping one of the best point guards/back courts in the country? Great idea!

None of your "tactical changes" would have changed a damn thing. It's pretty simple - Kansas is one of the best teams in the country. It's won the Big 12 twelve straight years. This isn't a "Painter" problem or a "Purdue" problem - they're a freaking very good team that hardly anyone's been able to beat outside of a fluke.

Purdue did well in the first half, but it squandered an 8 point lead with a couple rushed shots and a couple turnovers. We ended up giving Kansas momentum and while we hung around in the second half for a while, eventually the wheels fell off. And we're not the first team, and certainly won't be the last.

disagree

I think the Boilers could have stemmed the tide and kept KU off-balance a bit late in first half and throughout the second half with differing defensive schemes and varying offensive sets and styles. Am I saying Purdue would have won? No, I am not. However, I do believe they could have made it a much closer game than it ended up as by being more creative on-the-fly with differing tactics and style of play.

Was typing something similar until I saw your post.
Well said. Trapping or pressing their guards with our guards would be insane. It's basketball 101.
Nage is out of his element.
Nag loves Purdue basketball and wants them to do well and I respect that part and appreciate his love for the team...as I'm sure all on this forum does. THAT said I have tried to break things down in bites in theory and applications that I admit...tries my patience at times becasue I don't really think he thinks about what I say or just considers it an opinion for the sake of another opinion without digging deeper.

I may if I get time discuss for Nag the similarities of a zone, man and match up and how I can take one and accomplish much of the other, even though I have already done this with each having some difference and forcing one to decide a lean...a lean to the court or a lean to the player..both can adapt to a player..both can adapt to a team..both can adapt to a court.

I think Nag gets into this zone and visions of high school creep into his mind. What ever you want to call a defense..you somehow adjust on the player, the court AND the team. I'm a big believer in changing defense in high school for all the reasons most cite here, but not as sold in Big Ten due to talent
