Depth of Talent on this Team...

Do you really think Painter is sitting on him?
I’m sure Colvin and Heide are better in practice. But they haven’t been good in games for a while, and I can’t imagine Waddell being significantly worse. I’m not saying a permanent spot in the rotation, just an opportunity.

I’m a huge Painter supporter, but I disagree with him every now and again.

We’ll revisit this in a couple years.
So, are you saying that he'll become a better shooter or he'll add another dimension to his game? I remember this always being the hope for Morton and it never happened.
If MC has any NBA aspirations (and that's a long, long way off at this point), he has to become a dead eye 3 pt shooter. He's 6'5 and athletic, but there's tons of 6'5 athletes who can't shoot.

I actually love this idea. Tell Waddell to go in, play D, rebound, run the floor and if you get an open 3, let it fly. Agree, really can't be any worse right now.

I’m predicting he will be a bigger, stronger, more confident athlete, more confident shooter, who will use his strength to bull his way to the basket, which will in turn open up better looks from the perimeter.

Between his age (turned 19 in August) and his relative lack of experience playing against high level competition, he’s just way behind.

But drive and genes tend to catch up.

I was 10 or 12 rows up in Mackey when Painter put him in a few times to D up either Kam Jones or David Joplin a couple years ago. He can play defense.

If i recall correctly, did he have the second best vertical after Heide?
There's also the rumor of some NBA scouts at a practice or something a year or two ago to watch Edey but ended up asking who Waddell was.
Could be urban legend though.

Watch ivey**

I think that was pre ACL tear for Waddell?

I’d disagree on Joplin. He poured in 21 points in 21 minutes, on 11 shots. Mostly in the 2nd half if I remember correctly.
could be true.

But From looking at his sophomore stats to the last two years, that Purdue game was one of his best all soph year for him (scored 20+ one other time).

Since then, he has scored 20+ multiple times over his jr and sr year. Shooting % down but I playing more mins since soph year.

But yeah why not, let’s throw in Waddell to see what he can do.

Glad to see you coming around.🤗

I mean I disagree with him more than most on here, but I don't think he's sitting on a diamond in the rough on the bench.

I can see him making the wrong choice in say who starts (he didn't get the best starting five right until conference play), but I'd be surprised very much if a kid he's now seen play and practice for years now has something he's missing and all the other coaches are missing.

More so to show all you guys thinking there's a better shiny object on the bench, that it's not as shiny as you think.

But I'd gladly enjoy to eat crow if Waddell can somehow be better than Colvin and Heide.

I know the sample size is much smaller, but the percentages tell a pretty good tale of what he's capable of. We all know that CMP is pig-headed on making changes especially this time of year, but if Ii were to second guess him on anything, it's not playing Waddell more. As for eating crow, I'd much rather you deplete the supply of starlings.

Painter is not going to destroy Cam or Myles confidence and chase them away so Waddell can come in and shoot one 3 per game.

The % are…

A career 22% 3pt shooter, 22% from 2, 64% from FT

Per 40 he’d average 4 rebounds this year…if we go off his limited mins against lesser competition.

And when has painter been “pig headed” on making changes? Most recently, he just changed up the lineup in at the start of 2025 and last year, he sat and did not play Morton at this point in the year in favor of Colvin and Heide which was HUGE for us in making a deep run.

I am sure Paint will study those numbers and discard practices and his years of experience and start Waddell right away. Fans on a message board know best!!

No one said anything about CMP discarding practices. But Waddell isn't terrible, has solid numbers this year, and has played well his limited time on the court. The current list of subs aren't doing much to help, are they.
