West Virginia made the tournament 2 of the 4 previous years to DeVries getting there, then didn't make it under him. They were a 3-seed in 2021 and a 9-seed in 2023. Hardly an abysmal program.

Asking what time their game is this weekend ends the interaction pretty quickly.
West Virginia won 9 games the year before DeVries showed up. He brought back won player from that team. Brought in his son, Javon Small and a bunch of dudes who aren't exactly power conference talents. His got hurt. Pretty much left Small nearly alone. They still ended up winning 19 games. That's pretty dang good.
Gonzaga, Arizona, at Kansas and Iowa State.
They had 5 wins over NCAAT teams:
Bob Morris
Gonzaga
Arizona
Kansas
Iowa State
Hence why they aren't playing this week.
Huh... Who did North Carolina beat? Right. It's almost like they were incredibly screwed(which helped Indiana so I don't care).
Somehow you don't believe the context around the West Virginia program is meaningless. Yea they made the tourney in 2023... So what happened after that?
3 seed in 2021, 9 seed in 2023... Now what happened after 2023 that could make those two seasons completely meaningless to what happened in 2024 and 2025?
I think we all know why UNC was in the tournament.
The problem with Drake is the top teams in the MVC left, so did he flip Drake or did he just happen to be there and someone had to assume the position after the top left.

It doesn't matter to me who IU gets, If he works out...okay and if he doesn't...okay. It might matter to fans of IU though...
Yes. But how it's being talked about, it's as if it's only IU that can't pull big names. It just isn't happening anywhere. Louisville got Kelsey. Kentucky got Pope. Duke and UNC each hired from within and guys that had never been HCs. Arizona hired Lloyd who was an assistant. Ohio State hired from within. Biggest named that have moved recently are Barnes and Calipari and they were on their way out of Texas and Kentucky anyways so had to find a new job.
He definitely flipped them. He averaged 24.5 wins a season. As far as the conference changing. Creighton left for the Big East after the 2012-2013 season. Between then and DeVries arriving, Drake was 55-103. Wichita State left after the 16-17 season. Drake was 17-17 the year after. DeVries had them at 24 win his first season. In 6 years he was 150-55. Yea, he completely flipped that program that had been to a tournament once and one 20 win season in 50 years.
I think if you go back to what "I " wrote you will find me qualifying the comment about not going to IU or as you referenced..."not going anywhere" with commentary on the risk versus reward and those coaches not wanting to start over building relationships or even having that collateral of success to temper when not successful. Understanding what I wrote appears to be exactly what you are wanting to state.
Neat story. By your summation, IU should hang another banner by 2026. The Knight curse lives on.

After Creighton and Wichita left, it hasn't exactly been a world beater conference, almost been downright bad aside from Loyola that parlayed that run into an A10 membership, so not sure how much of a feat this is.
Well as you could see, Drake still sucked after Creighton left. They sucked when Wichita State left. Until DeVries arrived.
Sampson getting fired from IU is probably one of the best things that happened to Purdue. He had momentum and is a really good coach.
I think it's the best hire in the history of coaching hires.

To them Tom Crean must have inherited a fabulous situation at IU as we had made the tournament the previous 2 seasons.

You are either claiming Purdue fans don't have basketball knowledge(odd take since you are here) or just here to lie.
DeVries inherited a team that finished dead last in the Big 12. For this season they were again projected to finish dead last. Instead they went .500 in conference without their best player and still would've been in the tournament but for a committee screw job. Pretty impressive to me.
He inherited a program that had an 'interim' coach with no head coaching experience. You really don't feel the only way to go is up.
Huggy had them in the tournament more consistent then IU. Keep trying, bud.
WVU with Huggy as coach 11 out of 16 years in the tourney.
IU in the last 16 years made the tourney 6 times.

IU fans trying to "prove" that IU made a good coaching hire on a Purdue message board is just futile and stupid. I'm not sure what the point is. You very well might be right, but trying to get anyone here to side with you is like a divorced woman telling her ex that he made a good choice with his next relationship. Speaking of Tom Crean, just read he's a candidate to replace Devries at WVU. Tom Crean to replace anyone tells you how good the guy he's replacing was and how screwed IU is going to be.
