and what does all this have to do with mens basketball.
not that i care. it just seems a peculiar place for this
Not sure I follow your reply - so you're OK with teacher accountability as long its a democrat who gets credit?Interesting who you give credit to for the TAP Program in Indiana since it was started in 1999 by the Milken Family Foundation and the University of Indianapolis. Most recent results show that over 90% of existing teachers have been retained in the TAP Program, nationwide, so much for all those bad teachers being erroneously spewed as facts in this thread.
You also mention her regular bonuses, which IS higher pay while no salary is cut for poor performance just no bonus awarded and one final note of fact...two Federal Grants under the Obama Administration have been granted to Indiana since 2010 for TAP so let's give credit where it is due!
I don't care who gets credit. I was just pointing out that the Daniels hate by the teacher's union is misguided. And you kind of just proved that with your reply...indicating you're OK with teacher accountability. The teacher's union went off the reservation with their hatred of Mitch. Most people are ok with their tax $ following their student to the school of their choice - not being tied to a school just because of your address. Most people also realize there is no group that cries wolf more than teacher's unions.
38k would be 1st year teacher pay. Keep in mind you would get 14 weeks off plus sick and personal days throughout the year.Great story here. I didn't even know Purdue handed out Ed degrees until I ran into a football team parent who was a local middle school principal. Great guy, loved his kid but seriously, I didn't know they actually had a school of education at PU.
Anyways, he had a math/science teacher quit at the last moment last Aug and in desperation he asked me to fill the spot. I am partially retired (mid 50s) and only work on home improvement projects when I feel like scheduling them. I asked him the pay and he said 38k. I could make that working 20 hours a week, it would be silly to take on that responsibility for that little pay.
I think I would be a great teacher, I love math and science and would bring all the best of that to the classroom. I still have a passion for learning and almost exclusively follow sites and tv shows that are about knowledge.
All that said, I still don't think teachers are underpaid here. They don't need me to teach fractions and other basic concepts in middle school. Actually I'd be pissed if they offered enough cash to lure me out of my partial retirement.
No, Mitch didn't do it...the Fed's under Carter, Clinton, and Obama put their social programs in place where every kid is a superstar. Teaching to the test as dictated by the Fed's, and accepted by the NEA and ISTA has destroyed the profession. But yet, liberal educators continue to follow that Fed guideline. And before you say anything, my late wife was a teacher, my late father in law was a teacher, my son is a school board member, and I was going to teach after retiring until I realized just how bad it's become. You can have him. He ruined my profession (public school teacher in Indiana) with his policies that started the public school teaching witch hunt in Indiana. Thousands of Purdue alums in my situation have similar thoughts - - I am sure that many Purdue Faculty feel the same way.
He made schools, administrators, and educators accountable.I remember a teacher upset when Mitch became president and I asked then what he did to public education and never got an answer? I really don't know and would like to know...
I thought it was a great hire, but would like to hear how he ruined education in the posters opinion
Did your children have any teachers they loved? My kids certainly did, and so did the kids who had my wife teach them.I blame teachers unions for some of the issues. All of my kids have had bad teachers who obviously do not enjoy kids, or teaching, but it is very hard to get rid of them.
Also I blame the hordes of bad parents who aren't training or disciplining their kids at home, and then expect teachers to do their job for them.
It's not about the money, and if you think it is, you might be that great of an educator.Great story here. Oh sure, the majority in New Pal are good, really good, or great. (But they do pay more in our district than most of the surrounding districts)Did your children have any teachers they loved? My kids certainly did, and so did the kids who had my wife teach them.
If you don't believe teacher salary is an issue you must not have any clue about the teacher shortage ongoing in Indiana. You would also be shocked by the number in the classroom not instructing in their licensed area and the continuing low numbers of students in education at Indiana's universities and colleges...there is a teacher shortage in Indiana and salary is the #1 issue of why! STEM teachers in Indiana are disappearing in record numbers to other states mentioned or business FOR THE MONEY!
BS on your defense of his record of Charter Schools in Indiana less you forget how the grades for Charter Schools were held up and changed to higher marks...but they got caught AND the individual responsible who moved had on to Florida, I believe, was fired from a similar position.
Unless you tell me that particular Charter School took ALL of the students from the failed public school you are comparing apples to oranges. All of the issues stated are still the way Charter Schools operate not just in Indiana but in most states. They operate under a different set of rules, don't follow all the Federal and even state laws AND the jury is still out if they are any better for the low performing public schools.
You are in denial of the facts on Charter Schools and Daniels as the Governor of Indiana!

Your response looks like it should have been addressed to another post. You are getting too emotional about what I wrote, to the point where you read things into it that aren't there and you refuse to acknowledge obvious facts.
1) You missed this, even though I repeated it twice and took an extra step to underline it. Do you believe that increasing teacher's salaries will solve the problems with public education? Please address my comments related to that point.
2) The problem with public education started long before Daniels became governor. If everything was good when he took office, there would have been nothing to change. Do you believe that Daniels inherited a public education system that was the envy of the other 49 states?
There are so many posts with so many things I get tired thinking about giving an opinion on them. None of this is aimed at you, but don't think I have teh time or energy to address them from my understanding...and so much of this has to do with whose ox is getting gored and as I said...what should a school do? What is the role adn who should decide that role? Should there be different roles and how is that realistically obtained? Soooo many things and yet I think of little interest to most. Just for some clarification...The Nation at Risk led to the "Rising Tide of Mediocrity" which ultimately led to NCLB...which led to states adopting their own statewide testing in addition to the National Education Progress testing. Bush AND Ted Kennedy formed the NCLB adn I imagine some research would find Ted's mandates on money and evaluations.Fact 1) NCLB, No Child Left Behind was a Bush mandate not who you referenced so give him the deserved credit or failure and the Feds have used schools to push their laws and social changes due to their funding for DECADES...you should know that if your family tree is in education 2) mainly republican controlled states passed laws to ignore Obama's Education Program, ESSA, Every Student Succeeds Act to try and create a nationwide standard of learning, in short to raise the requirements to graduate and to standardize what a student is supposed to know or skills obtained by taking a subject or class...a direct pushback from colleges and universities who indicated that NCLF was sending unqualified HS graduates to college or unprepared skilled workers into the work force 3) most of the south does not have either ISTA or NEA teacher unions and that contributes directly to two things 1) very low pay and 2) low state education performance, check ANY nationwide ranking of public k-12 schools, rankings.
If you check Indiana's overall educational ranking it has been on a slide downward.
Facts not BS!
