I agree Berg isnt the answer, but he is a big, he is depth somewhat, and I dont want to be the type of team that pulls scholarships. So unless Berg goes into the Portal himself, I dont think we have room.

15 scholarship limit starting for 2025-2026 season, so we will have at least 2 open.
We have two more spots, so no scholarships have to be pulled.
But I suspect that "the talk" is going to be given to Berg and that usually results in people seeking elsewhere.
It's clear Painter started the season hoping he'd develop.

I was pretty good friends with a couple of basketball players in those days (one starter, one "recruited" walk on). Anyways, they would make fun of Matt relentlessly for being uncoordinated.
I feel like Berg is that guy too.

I'm unaware of Berg having coordination issues as much as his quick twitch muscle...and "maybe" how quickly the signal jumps the synapses.
Nah. Berg just started too late and doesn't have the natural athletic ability and talent Edey has to make up for it.
If Berg had come up through the US system he'd probably be a significantly better player right now.
Ten Dam was literally "just tall." There wasn't a lot of talent there.
I heard stories of Ten Dam falling over his own feet in practice. Hilarious.
I think Painter played with him his senior year, would have to look it up. I dont see it with Berg, but not as bad as Ten Dam, was making some jokes.

I was actually very impressed with Jacobsen as a freshman in his limited time.
I remember Big Dog jumping over, him to dunk, in a Mid Night madness exhibition.
I think he took karate lessons.

FIFY. He was awful. Not in the same discussion with Berg.
As I remember, we were in desperate need of a big man at the time and MTD attempted 16 field goals total in his 3 yrs at Purdue. I think he played in 13 games as a Jr averaging 2.5 mins a game. Possibly similar to Berg's mins this yr, but I agree Berg is definitely better tho. Did MTD transfer after his Jr yr? Anybody remember? Stats show he only played thru his Jr yr. Maybe he just jumped straight into MMA 😉
He graduated in '97 (his last year playing for Purdue) and then played professionally in Europe and for the Dutch National team.
Berg's problem isn't coordination. It's a lack of quickness and footspeed.
IIRC, his bio stated MTD had participated in judo. After Purdue, he was an MMA fighter for awhile.
Not saying you are wrong, I was making a bit of a joke. I just dont think Berg has it, which sucks, because he probably is a good kid.

If I remember correctly, Glenn initially signaled for Timmy Ervin to come out, just to play with the crowd, and then pointed over to Ten Dam.
That is literally the only thing I remember ten dam doing well in a boiler uniform.
He could reach the top shelf at the grocery store with ease…so there’s that
I played in some pickup games at the CoRec with him. He was not only never the best player on the floor, he was often one of the worst. And always the laziest.
I did the same with Cornelius McNary. I remember before he played he'd just be nailing three after three and I was like oh man he's gonna be good.

I remember thinking the same. Still, though...big difference between McNary and Ten Dam. I'm not sure Ten Dam ever drew iron in a game, practice, or even just for fun. Rumor has it that he had problems dunking a foam ball in a nerf hoop as a kid. For him, the ball and the basket were like two repelling magnets.
No McNary was significantly better and actually filled in fine a few games.
You could be your average co-rec player and be a big difference with Ten Dam.
At least he provided us with epic stories of his time on campus

We need a big body. Not necessarily a 7 footer, but someone 250 lbs+ like Ballo or Osobar. Someone to get rebounds, sturdy enough to bang inside, pickup fouls, hit free throws and skilled enough to dish it to the shooters when they collapse on him.
I think Burgess is a better comp to Condon than Jacobsen. Condon is about the same size as Burgess, but with an extra year of experience under his belt. Just my 2 cents.

Haarms arrived at Purdue in mid season primarily because of aNCAA ruling, he would have lost a year of eligibility if he had remained at that prep school. Are you going to agree with that or not?
Painter decided to red shirt Haarms for that semester so he would have 4 years of eligibility. Painter could have played him upon his arrival to Purdue but decided to red shirt him. Are you going to agree with that or not?
Purdue lost in the NCAA tournament that year. If Haarms had not been redshirted and had played that second semester upon his arrival to Purdue, The outcome of the tournament game could have been different. I never claimed it was the loss to Texas tech. I claimed it was the first year Haarms arrived! Not his second year.
And my claim was that Haarms could have played, but Painter decided it was in his best interest to redshirt him. If Painter didn’t redshirt him, he wouldn’t have had that last year to play at BYU would he? Are you going to argue with that point ?
And now I’m comparing Haarms to Jacobson. Jacobson may be healthy enough to play in March, but Painter has already decided to redshirt him for the entire year, just like Haarm’s first year, Purdue could probably use Jacobson. But it’s not going to happen. And like Haarms, Jacobson will probably not stay at Purdue for 5 years. He will probably turn pro and leave early.
My entire point was painter could have played Haarms upon his arrival. There was no ncaa requirement that said he couldn’t play him. It would have been nice to have Haarms on our bench that year as a true freshman to provide some additional depth at center. But Painter elected to go with the roster he had. And if healthy, it sure would be nice to have Jacobson play this year. But just like Haarms, it’s not going to happen whether he’s healthy enough or not.
And come tournament time, there will be people posting on this board that it sure would be nice if Painter allowed Jacobson to play in the tournament.
And there will be people calling other posters names and questioning my posts. Some of you never change. And most of you never comprehend the main point I am making. All you do is nitpick at the minor details.

You are ridiculous! You are also totally full of shit! The initial thing you posted talked about a center getting hurt in the tournament and a center being redshirted and not activated to play in said tournament. Yes Haas got hurt in the tournament and was out. Yes Haarms redshirted half a season. No there was absolutely no injury to Swanigan (center Haarms redshirt year) in the tournament that would have been reason to activate Haarms from redshirt thus possibly preventing a loss. The next year Haas did get injured and couldn’t play, but Haarms was not on redshirt and he did play for the injured Haas. So the entire premise of your post was the redshirt not being rescinded to allow the player to fill in the need created by an injury DID NOT HAPPEN! You made up a scenario to back up your opinion that DJ should not be held out for medical redshirt because you want him available to play! Your story was wrong and full of shit! You’re an insufferable liar and ass that when called out cries and wants to play the victim. Enough already!

Okpara who was at OSU for 2 years and is now at Tennessee would be a good one. He doesn't really have much of an offensive game that needs to be featured.
