Daniel Jacobsen likely to miss rest of season

Hopefully Furst steps up and gets more pt… I feel like he is the best option to start. I also could see us playing smaller more often now with TKR at the 5. DJ really needs to bulk up this year, hopefully he uses this time to do so. He’s going to have a great career, so a redshirt year will hopefully benefit us down the road.

Hope he heals quickly. Perhaps we see the small ball lineup now?
Possible, but I don't think so. I have to think the recent comments by Painter are directed at Heide. To play small-ball would necessitate Heide playing the 4 and playing 25+ mpg. I think we now see 4 guys for 2 spots, like we saw mostly last year, although Furst didn't play much behind Edey. Now we have TKR, Berg, Furst, and Burgess. I like Berg to start right away, but maybe not long-term.

I saw it on TV, it really didn't look like the impact was that hard? Must have hit it just right? Weird.
The guy's knee went into the side of the leg. That looked ok...it's when he collapsed that it looked like a spiral fracture. His leg twisted really sharply.

It seemed like the guys heel kinda got whipped into the shin area. But yeah didn’t look that hard when it hit. But damn. But I suppose the silver lining is it gives him time to bulk up and put on muscle. Hopefully he has a speedy recovery!

pretty much agree w/ this, I also stated that the comments were directed at Heide, Furst, and possibly Berg

I hope it isn't a displaced fracture. I hope he can heal and come back 100% next year. I had high hopes for him being a big factor for us this year. At least we have good depth at the position, but it still sucks for him and our team.
Not likely a bad or displaced fracture. He walked off, no obvious deformity, and it took multiple X-rays/scans to diagnose it seems. Strength training and adding weight/ muscle will be a huge goal this season.

going to need surgery though, prolly put a surgical "nail " or thin rod in break

I wish Jacobsen a full recovery…and it will allow him to become physically ready for college ball. So…essentially he is back to his regular class status.

I would play Burgess and Furst at the center position with Berg only when the two get in foul trouble.

Heide possibly needs more time at the 4. Worst case scenario, we run Furst or Burgess at the 5.

Painter said an interview today that you’ll ‘definitely’ see more of Trey at the five. I agree with you, I wouldn’t expect a steady diet of that, but they were always going to roll that out some.

If that is the case, I really hope they go national for a surgeon. Possibly even outside of Indy. Putting pin/rod in the leg of growing 7'2" 18 y/o needs the best of the best IMO.

Exactly and hopefully the Jacobsens insist on that. You find who is the best.

we saw some Furst at the 4 last year and I thought he looked good there and paint mentioned it this year. Maybe less pressure on Heide at 4 if TKR plays more 5.

Some time ago we had 6-5 R Davis @ the 4. He was one tough hombre. Think he was even B10 DPOTY there @ 6-5.

I wonder situationally if Colvin could do well there against
~ 6-7 type guys. Or maybe Harris, so massive & powerful in his lower body while still being quick. Could either play the 4 vs smaller or slower 4s and just give them fits by out quicking them?

Now that there is some small ball for sure. 😎

I like it. And we can switch it up on offense where we play a 4 guard perimeter with a. Lot of motion. We did this before and other teams have done to us.

I don’t mind it, I hope Furst gets a first crack as the new starter though, he’s looked pretty good in his limited minutes the first two games.
