Dakich

Liked his comment during the broadcast today about how great an atmosphere PU is.

‘I don’t know why the top recruits in Indiana aren’t lining up to play at PU.’

Couldn’t agree more - we have the best fans in the state. Let’s get some results with this squad this year.

I wasn’t sure how to interpret that comment. At first it sounds like a great endorsement, then you wonder if he is saying we ought to be recruiting better.

I don’t think our recruiting has been bad the past 4 years but we definitely missed on some dudes.

Could be better for sure

I agree for the most part. If he could tone down the color commentary just a bit he would be great.
Exactly this....love his local knowledge but hate that he just keeps talking over the game.

Talk more about the game and players in the game.

Only to those who wanted to hear that. He is a big Painter fan...
Just saying he left it open for interpretation by the way he phrased his comment. He could have just said what a great environment and academics Purdue has and how appealing that is for recruits. Instead it was phrased as I wonder why they DON'T come here despite the environment and academics. Maybe he was alluding to dirty recruiting. If so it was very subtle.

Enjoyed the announcing later in the game. Spent too much time not following/commenting the game in the beginning and talking about the Louisville situation. Lots was happening on the floor and neither announcer was paying attention.

I had to turn down the sound during that period. It was an exciting, hard-fought contest, yet the announcers were talking about something that had been discussed over and over on other forums. And when they weren't talking about the Louisville situation, they were promoting upcoming ESPN broadcasts.

I don't mind Dakich, compared to Bill Walton or Dickie V who are both terrible. Dan typically says pretty good things about Purdue and Painter, as they're friends.
I don't think its a surprise we don't land the top players in the state, minus biggie 2 years ago. Basically stop going to KY, Louisville, Sparty, and Michigan and look at Purdue is how I took it.

Not a Dakich fan so viewing through that lens, it almost sounded very left-hand complimentary to me. Like there are CLEARLY other things holding PU back from getting elite recruits.

Holy Over-Reaction, Batman!

We’re so insecure we can’t appreciate an awesome compliment of our school and hoops atmosphere, made totally live in the midst of an intense game???

Wow....
So, if somebody told you they can't understand why you don't have the hottest wife in the neighborhood because you have so much going for you, you wouldn't think twice about it? Or why haven't you gotten any better job offers because you are so smart and good at your job? Do you have to be insecure to read into those statements? I mean, it wouldn't hurt my feelings, but I certainly think it would be fair to question their intent.

I heard him say more then once he would like to see the top prospects stay in state.. Whether it be IU or Purdue..

Context is your friend here- your examples are totally different than the context in which Dakitch made his comments ...

Sorry they failed whatever standard you believe is a “ suitable “ compliment for live television... to me, it’s another national accolade (just like the Bucket game features on the new FB facility) that demonstrates the great things happening at Purdue.

Did you guys see the Louisville game thread? They hated Dakich in every way possible. How could that not be a positive for us.

They also had an unnatural affinity for calling Haas female derogatory terms so maybe that doesn't mean so much.

The first half was one of the ugliest halves of basketball I've seen in quite some time that didn't involve Wisconsin. I don't blame them for finding something else to talk about.

Dakich gets a lot of grief from this board, but he's always giving props to Purdue.

I get how he rubs people the wrong way, but I never listen to his radio show. I would rather have him than anyone else call a Purdue game.

He’s always very complimentary of Purdue, painter, Keady, etc. and he has local knowledge unique for a commentator.

Most of them can’t even get our players names right. I’ll take Dakich.

If my other options are Bilas, Vitale, or Magic Bus Bill Walton, I’ll take Dakich.

I prefer Hummel and Bardo to all of them though.

I like him doing Purdue games.
You can have him. He comes on our premium board and picks fights with some of us. I think he’s still upset that his boy Alford didn’t get the job. But we’re very happy with Archie and I suspect most Purdue fans are also unhappy our AD didn’t pick Alford.

Seriously though, a lot of IU fans think he’s s pompous ass.

Familiar with the phrase " consider the source"? Well it works the same way when someone who likes you gives you a compliment...chasing ghosts I think...
