Cracking me up

You cannot change the past. Now the future looks extremely bright. Thats the ride I am going on and enjoy every minute of it! There is no way I will let the naysayers take that from me. Boiler up!
I agree with you but the "naysayers" have their point as well. You don't have to agree with them but they have a point to an extent.

I would rather cheer for success and hope for the best in March!

Let's come back to this in March. Rankings mean nada if you just continually lose to double digit seeds in March.
We would all like more success in March, but I still enjoyed Purdue’s last season far more than, for example, the Colts’ last season.

Prior to breaking through in 2019, Virginia was a program that continually had lots of success in the regular season, but struggled in the postseason and I saw their national profile improve substantially over that time. The same thing happened to Gonzaga before their breakthrough. The Purdue program is on the rise and I believe that the March breakthrough will come.

Let's hope. The thing that allowed those teams to "break through" was the fact that they started getting NBA-level talent (and guards).

Nah. We’ve got a leaky faucet in the guest bathroom so let’s burn the house to the ground and start over.

It’s possible that Purdue will enter next season as pre-season #1, though I think Kansas and Duke will be right there as well. Recruits notice stuff like that. It all helps.

40+ years to be on the verge of a breakthrough.

I don't know...some on here keep telling me Purdue/Painter can't get top-level recruits to come here for a litany of reasons...West Lafayette, NIL, Purdue doesn't cheat, etc.

Take a look at the NBA. The coaches who were recently fired were coaches of teams that had great regular season records but were upset in the playoffs! Look at the Bucks, 76ers and Raptors. It’s not the coaches of bad teams getting fired! Green Bay’s la Fleure missed the playoffs but his job as part of a losing team is secure! The better you are in the regular season the higher the expectations are in the post season.

Our season looked just like Celtics in the NBA playoffs but the Boston Celtics have players that can take it to the rim but it's hard to change what got you there , nobody on this forum believes that Purdue are a 20% from three-point shooting team and they shot worse than that quit blaming Painter, players have to play well to win especially in the tournament the Big Ten did poor we weren't alone, we were predicted to finish 5th or 7th in the Big 10

We can all agree our outside shooting cost us big time in the tourney. However, that game was not the first time our shooters were shooting blanks from outside! It’s not like we were averaging shooting 40% from the three and had just one bad night. Rather than continuing to shoot the 3, Painter and his staff should have found different ways to score rather than hoping our 3 point shooting would somehow miraculously improve over night!

I’d rather lose to Charminade in November and make the Final 4 than any other scenario

Celtics lost game 7 to Miami because they couldn’t hit a three and kept shooting them. That’s how Purdue lost to FDU. Painter should have said no more 3s, dump it into Zach and let him score and/or get fouled. That’s how Purdue could have won that game. Instead, Painter let them play stupid ball with predictable results.

Two of those three teams won a championship, so I don't really get what you are getting at. They were good in the regular season and tournament, but can't win every year.

#1 ranked in the country for 7 weeks this past season.
Probably pre-season top 5 next season.
And some here talk openly about firing the coach.
chuckle...............

I think a lot of those are IU fans. They want Purdue to be in chaos. Painter has built up a strong reputation in the state of Indiana and landing a lot of in-state recruits. The more negative news they can make Painter look the better for them to negative-recruit.

But of course, there are also entitled Purdue fans who don't give a damn if we go 34-0 coming into Selection Sunday b/c of Painter's recent struggle against the lowly double-digit seeds. When they extrapolate that to eternity then it justifies everything, at least in their view.

Recent struggles against double digit seeds is not the whole story. The whole story takes into account his entire tenure at Purdue. And, to call Purdue fans “entitled” is ridiculous. There’s no history from which to become entitled. We’re just hungry…starving…ravenous…for a return to the Final Four…a National Championship would be nice, too, but a FF would suffice…so, throw us a frickin’ bone, CMP.

What I was saying was the coaches had won championships and had outstanding regular season records, but it wasn’t good enough. Their teams wanted somebody who was better in the playoffs! Their team owners wanted a dynasty. Their team owners wanted a coach who could motivate his players to win it all. What I’m saying is if Painter was a coach in the NBA or NFL, he would have been fired long ago for not being able to win playoff games. Tony Dungy was a great coach at Tampa Bay but was fired because his success was only in the regular season. Tampa Bay hired Juden to replace him because of his playoff success. What I’m saying is if Painters teams keep choking in the playoffs, no matter what his regular season accomplishments are, Purdue will say, we need to go in different direction. Look at what happened to Coach Weber and Zo. Great coaches in the regular season. But fired because they just didn’t win the big games.

So true regarding some people’s perspective on this sport. I’d like to call it misguided and wrong, but that understates my feelings about their nonsense. To succeed, it takes persistence and faith. We exceeded every expectation last year, but no, let’s fire the coach and let the team go. “Replace ‘em all with real, bone-e-fied players that will win every tournament game! “.

The lack of understanding of the game, and sports in general is truly astounding.

I think it's fair to say CMP isn't perfect. He's been an outstanding regular season coach. He just hasn't been very good in March the last few years. It's ridiculous for people to call for his head. But I do think it's fair to call for him to make some changes. For one, his inability to land portal recruits is going to have an undesirable impact on this team, especially at the 1 and 2 spot, where depth is suspect.

People who think Lance Jones is the answer athletically will be getting a big wake up call this season. I watched his film against a couple P5 opponents. I was unimpressed with his defense...

I’m not a huge fan of painter’s motion offense or his position on not mixing in a zone defense with man to man or his lack of a pressing defense. However for all the fans out there that want to fire him, you are not going to get a better coach to come to Purdue! Who’s out there that is actually better that would be willing to come here? It’s one thing to scream fire the coach. Finding a willing replacement is a lot tougher! Look at IU. They have gone through a lot of coaches after Knight left. Have they found one coach who was actually better? It’s the same with The Purdue Woman’s basketball team. A lot of people didn’t like a certain coach 20 years ago. Were her replacements any better?

I’m sure bonehead has a long list of replacements in his hip pocket. He just can’t let go of the walker to pull it out. No worries. I found out that you can let go of the walker and reach around if you are quick about it.

just a weak reference to you and I getting older.

Painter got outcoached big time in that game.

I love the “who are we gonna get that’s better!?” crowd.
We’ll know when he gets here.

What the hell are you babbling about?

My thoughts are a lot of the players coming to Purdue are coming here purely because of Painter. If you replace him, I doubt you would get the same caliber of player to come here. Purdue is not on the top of very many players wish list to begin with. Zo was a great recruiter, but can’t coach. Webber was ok.

And here is the issue. There may be many coaches better than Painter. However it’s doubtful any of them actually want to come to coach at Purdue! Look at our recent football hire. A lot of fans came up with big name coaches they’d like to see Purdue hire but none of them were interested! So Purdue hired a young assistant coach and is hoping for the best! You may love smart and Chaka, but I have never heard either express an interest in Purdue! If Painter leaves we will likely hire a former assistant. And if we do, he will probably run the same defense and offense that painter runs and would recruit the same type of players.

If Painter leaves, it’s very doubtful our basketball program would go in a different direction as you might want and hope.
