Colvin in the Portal

I hate to see this but it’s just the reality of today’s college basketball. I don’t blame him if he thinks he can make more money and get more playing time elsewhere.
Perhaps he had the meeting already today with Matt and Matt laid out the numbers and Myles was not happy and then maybe Matt encouraged him to check what he could get in NIL and so if he stayed at Purdue he wouldn't be so discontent and if the numbers were much better outside Myles could go for it? I saw some progress and was thinking it possible to make a big jump over the summer, but the three spot has some competition. Matt has a history of trying to help kids if they can better their situation. Typically that has not happened with players that left.

Good luck Mr. Colvin. Your family has done well for Purdue and you have been appreciated. Okay, that said, this is the way it could be every year now. It's a business now and kids are given the power to do this. Some will be good, some will be bad. I'm hoping this is the only surprise this year. Again, I think this will be the norm with the way things are. If schools aren't ready to evolve, they could be left behind.

He stood at the 3 point line cause that is what he was told to do. That was his role, only lately did he take steps in his game . This one hurts, he WILL be better than Loyer next season. Anyone with eyes can see that. He will be unleashed and with his defense and athleticism will be a star.
I’m not sure he will be better than Loyer. They’re def different players. I wish him luck tho. Opens up a spot for a transfer tho.

Well he did finally start to turn things around. It was evident with his defense and general court awareness. But needed more on offense besides jacking up 3. He did hit a few nice dribble pull ups the last few games….so I thought it was all finally starting to click for him. Sucks…but more minutes for CJ and Heide.

Perhaps but I don’t think this decision was just made today. I do hope he does come back. But someone with his potential I don’t blame for bettering his situation for himself. He’s worked his whole life for it.

Not crazy about losing him. It is the world we live in though. I did think he would have a bigger role this year but it never came to fruition. Will be interesting to see where he goes and how he does someplace different. He has the physical talent to play at a high level but not sure of the total skill level yet.

if it was strictly playing time, then with some things I typed earlier he probably did make up his mind earlier. However, if not, then it is also possible numbers were thrown his way and that is the biggest reason. I have no idea why, but this whole NIL thing is tough for me while it is a part of college rather than semi-pro league. It is what it is

Wooooow. Did not see that coming. As most probably know, I was a big advocate for him. Maaaaan.

We must be recruiting someone else to come in.
Didn’t I predict that? Figured one of he or Heide would go. Hopefully, that’s all that leave although I can see Burgess leaving as well.

I'm honestly not shocked by this at all. He was given every opportunity to prove himself and chose to just jack of 3's and all but disappeared this season as a result.

Hopefully this means Cam is sticking around though as he has turned it around here as of late.
I figured one of the two would leave. Not a surprise at all.

Showed flashes of brilliancy but also showed flashes of throwing the ball away and getting beat on defense! Could more PT solve the later, who knows!

This is why folks need to let go of the whole "culture" and "Purdue is different" mentality and just embrace that the portal is here to stay and it's a resource we have to use just about every season.

We have a staff that is very good at developing schemes for their talent and at identifying talent. Those skills work with portal players too. It's not just a high school recruit thing.

Do you like apples or oranges? That's the comparison you're making. Totally different playing styles.
Not really both are off guards . Loyer a great shooter and ok handling the ball but weak on defense. Colvin ok to good shooter , good to great defender and weak ball handler. Colvin better rebounder and more upside where as Loyer is polished and at his ceiling

Both are and will be good. Now move on and get another player. No different than free agency as a pro except this shit will happen every year. We should be able sign these kids to 1 year contracts

Not surprised at all. Some fool on this board said about 1,000 times in today’s culture of a player has nba aspirations if they are not starting, they are departing! Somebody informed you legacy means nothing today. Somebody said next year would by Myles third year here and he was still not going start. So like Eastern and Stephens, he decided to leave so he could play. He sure wasn’t going to get any minutes playing behind Loyer or smith. And it would be 4 players going for minutes at the three. And it would be 4 if painter added a guard from the portal. The guy on Facebook said two weeks ago that a player contacted painter and said he was leaving. I guess that’s why painter gave him more playing time in the tourney. So in today’s world there is no loyalty for last players. If you have dreams of playing in the pros, if you ain’t starting’ you departing’

Well…at least it opens up a spot now for Catchings…he was on campus, too. Between NIL and wild free agency…college basketball has become very dis-interesting to me. I watched way less college basketball this past season. Let’s just have a damn auction for players…and again not win a championship, but buy one. The game has lost its luster.

Well, that's too bad. I was hoping the top 8 (including Jacobsen) would all stay, but that's asking a lot in today's world.

I won't throw Myles under the bus if he wants more playing time. This isn't that much different than TKR telling Painter he'd stay two years as a role player. It was clear that TKR was going to be a star after Zach left. It's not that clear for Myles given how little seems to separate Colvin/Heide/Harris.

Can you tell us who we are gonna get to replace him? That would be cool.

This blind squirrel has been telling you the truth for over 10 years and you continue to ignore it! I told you so how many times? I believe it’s time you opened your eyes and actually read my posts! How many time have I told you Myles was likely to leave?
