Coaching Staff announcements?

Anyone expecting announcements in the next day or two?

These things can stretch out into January and even later. In terms of recruiting, its a dead period until Jan 11, so not a huge immediate need. Also, the coaching convention is Jan 7-10, a lot of coaches use that as a time to meet/interview potential assistants.

I'm guessing that if any WKU assistants are coming, that might get announced in the next few days now that their bowl is over, but probably won't hear much on anyone else until the beginning of Jan if not the middle of Jan. The last spot or 2 on the staff may not even get filled until after signing day.

Brohm said in his radio show he'd make the announcement sometime between Christmas and New Years Day. I suspect the names will probably leak before that. Sheppard's name kind of leaked out 3-4 days before becoming official

Didn't Brian Brohm/Tony Levine already leak sort of kinda?

Coach Brohm said something in an interview within the last week that decisions would be made between Christmas and New Years so look for next week to be when we see a lot of action.

I for one hope we end up with some of the guys from WKU.
Nick Holt - DC
Tony Levine - ST, Co-OC, TE
Bryan Ellis - Pass Game Coordinator/WR
Chris Barclay - RB

That assumes both Brohm brothers are coming in their respective roles, which has been seemingly released, though never made official. And I do realize we have hired Shephard but his role hasn't been defined yet and is listed as "Offensive Assistant."

The WKU defensive staffers I am less familiar with but the resumes of the above offensive guys are solid. Plus, their work speaks for itself, especially after the bowl game showing last night.

I think we'll see it largely, if not completely, settled fairly quickly. It seems as if Brohm has his plans and is ready to go with it. Let's hope so.

I would love for CJB to bring his whole entire offensive staff. The only issue is JaMarcus Shepard is on staff already. With schools only allowing for schools to have 9 full time assistant coach, CJB is going to have to leave someone out. Another issue CJB has to deal with Gerard Parker.....does he join the staff or does he find another gig.

I don't believe Parker will be on the staff but I could be wrong. Seems like to me, he would have been announced yesterday with all of the others that were hired yesterday if he was going to be on the 2017 staff.
if not iu has an opening.

There was a tweet that went out yesterday that Parker changed his account to just Purdue coach, instead of WR coach. Speculation was that he is staying on board.

Wouldn't be surprised if Parker becomes a special assistant, much like Sarkisian. He seems to have some good qualities that can be beneficial for the program

Sark was brought in to be successor to Kiffin. Those "special assistants" make a fraction of what regular assts make. Would be a career killer for Parker....don't see him going that route.

maybe Parker will remain at Purdue and serve as a coach for a different sport like track or work in some other capacity for the AD. Maybe possibly as a Purdue instructor or trainer.

in regards to Sarkisian, he was brought on board as a special assistant, because he was expected to replace Kiffin. I can't see Parker being kept on board as a special assistant with the expectations he would replace one of the coaches just brought in.

I believe he was let go. What you heard yesterday was the names of the coaches going forward. You didn't hear any names of former coaches. Their future or termination was not discussed. I have to believe Parker was let go with all the other coaches. if he was going to be retained in some other capacity, I believe they would have mentioned it. They named two people who would be staffers, but not coaches. It's possible Parker could become the RB coach?

I will give credit to Parker as being Hazell's best assistant coach, and his best recruiter. I will give credit to Parker as being a better head coach than Hazell. and he took over in a very bad situation and handled himself well. but I Just believe Purdue is looking for a totally fresh start

I'd welcome him back, but I doubt Brohm does. This is now Brohm's show. Parker stayed on as part of the transition team. The transition is over. I wish Parker well. I've been wrong before.

Not sure how you go from Haze Asst.....to Brhom Special Asst being the career Killer...Sark had some pretty dark days at Wash and prior to Saben.

Sark had to go special asst route to get his foot back in the door. Parker will have the opportunity to coach next year at another school. Why would he take a step back when his goal is head football coach?

Is his goal to be a HC? Not everyone is necessarily cutout to be "the man" either by temperament or personality. I remember when Jim Young stepped down as Purdue HC citing interest to focus on Athletic Administration but rumor was he was burned out from pressure of HC job. PU job openings list several openings in Athletic Dept including "Football Director of Player Personel"-not sure it pays much but if Parker is keen on staying here, I suspect he can find a spot in administration, compliance, oversite or even JPC maybe?
Jim Young went on to coach another 7 years at Army.

I dont get the obsession with Parker. We have had good coaches leave in the past. why the focus on an interim coach that went 0-6 and was a part of the worst 4 years in Purdue's football history.

I fully agree with Nat. Admittedly Parker was probably the best coach on Hazell's staff . But is that a reason to keep him? Hazell has taken a lot of blame for Purdue's lack of success. I cannot believe Hazell should be blamed for everything that went bad. Some of that blame should be shared by his assistants. Parker had 6 games to prove himself. Unlike LSU, the results were not good. The results were improved, yes, but not where they needed to be. you can blame injuries, lack of depth, a terrible defensive coordinator, lack of talent, whatever you want. but the bottom line is we still went 0-6 with Parker at the helm. That was his audition.

Time for a new, fresh start.

The players reacted and played harder. You could tell just by watching. The problem is, they were seriously undermanned. I don't think he would be in a position to call plays and I can't imagine he would be too expensive to keep. I have no issues with them keeping him at all. I thought he earned a spot and was clearly the best candidate to keep out of that entire coaching staff.

Parker was clearly the best candidate to keep from Hazell's staff. I think it's possible that Parker was included in the 16 coaches considered by the selection committee. However, I like the staff that Brohm has put together

Looks like Parker will stay...CJB spoke real highly of him in this interview when ask the question.."Do you have any intention of bringing back Gerad Parker?"

Coach Brohm: “Well without question he’s under strong consideration. I think he’s done a great job and I’ve been honest with him from the day one about how it’s going to work and how we’re going to let it play out. Without question he’s got a great chance to be here and he’s done a tremendous job even since I got here. I hold him to a high regard and I think that he’s a guy we’re going to try and keep in the program if we can.”

It was very evident, the team played harder, determined and "loose" once Parker took over. The players clearly loved this guy-at least the receivers group did. But, I also think a young coach can get too close to his players. If you look at some of his Instagram pics & those from Yancey, Young or Marshall, he actually had guys to his home to socialize, hangout, etc.

This team needs a new culture and Jeff Brohm will have to kick-ass starting with winter conditioning. I suspect they will need to be in superior condition because I got a feeling PU offense might lead nation in offensive snaps this fall.

Like I mentioned in earlier post, there are plenty of openings at Purdue for Parker, if he and his family want to stay......he has been an asset and incredibly loyal to the university. Other than the Grad Assistants, I hope all the rest quickly leave town and dont let door hit you on the way out!
Why would Purdue lead the nation in offensive snaps this fall? WKU was 86th last season in offensive plays per game. TOP on offense was 76th. They get to the line quick but they are not a huge up-tempo offense. I feel like people just watched the LaTech/WKU track races and formed an incredibly sticky view of Brohm's offense. It just HYPER efficient at exploiting match ups.

I'm going to stick with the side that says he's gone.

this is the last quote from Brohm as part of that interview.

"I think he understands in this coaching business when there’s changes as a head coach, I’m going to have a lot of guys pulling at me from a lot of angles. There’s going to be people from where I was at that want to come. There’s going to be people from outside that want to come. I want to make sure that I don’t rush in any decision. I do think it’s the right way. I listen to everything out there and then I get the best people here on our staff.”

and while the interview was aired today, 1/3/2017, it says at the beginning, this was a recent interview, and unfortunately doesn't reveal the date of the interview. You can tell it was made before yesterday's coaches announcement. Brohm said he'd like to keep Parker if he can, but also planned on bringing his own staff. Maybe Brohm offered Parker the running backs coaching position and Parker is still mulling it over. . it's rather odd it's still open and Barclays didn't come with the rest of the WKU staff. .
