Happy for him. I have my criticisms of him, but he has recruited, coached and mentored a very good group of players and young men. After the Senior day festivities and speeches, I have even more appreciation for his job at my school. Makes me proud to be a Boilermaker.

Yeah, these awards are often linked to exceeding expectations, but they should take into account the fact that Painter built a roster capable of meeting (and even exceeding) the high expectations Purdue set last year. Hoiberg is doing a great job, but Painter has built an incredibly successful team.

Even though he has won the award several times, I think that this was Painter’s best coaching job.

Rather than an award, I believe what Painter has built is a reputation. You can see it in the results he produces and the caliber of players that now want to play for Purdue!
