I really thought this would be the perfect game for him. My bad.if he's going to not work to get open so he can shoot the ball from the arc and quit making lazy passes, I'd rather see Grady Eifert.
Not sure but I don't think he attempted a shot. Needs to find the gap off ball a little better.
Need to shoot or sit. Bottom line. Glad to see CMP start CE second half.He didn't. Three rebounds, one turnover, and four fouls in 14 minutes of action.
I don't understand how these other teams are getting so many open looks and Cline can't get open with the bigs we have. Our guards should be standing wide open every possession. This is actually possibly my biggest issue with Painter's coaching. How do we not have at least 5 set plays to get Cline a shot? Maybe he isn't working hard enough for one but we still need specific set plays for the sole purpose of getting him an open look from 3 at least 2 to 3 times a game and if he hits the early ones even more.

I watched a replay of the game and some of you need to let up on Cline. He made some key rebounds and played some excellent defense in the first half. Those who think his only role is to hit 3-pointers are creating that in your own heads. It's clear that Painter has different expectations than you guys do.He's adding nothing positive while he's on the court. Been that way for a while now. Hope he gets things turned around. Looks very nonchalant out there right now.

I agree. However, CE gets in foul trouble quickly as he is always reaching / going for steals. A good thing most of the time but foul trouble comes quickly...CE needs to play as much as his conditioning will allow
And 2 of those fouls were the worst calls I have seen. Watch the game again and see what Cline is doing. He didn't. Three rebounds, one turnover, and four fouls in 14 minutes of action.
They would've given up a lot more on the inside if Haas wasn't missing bunnies, fouling, and turning it over.I was really impressed with Vermont's defense through most of the game. They seemed to cover the perimeter tight (we got very few open threes, not just Cline), while also not giving up much on the inside.
Cline is a basketball player. Many here even thought that he could come in and play PG. His role is bigger than shooting 3's. He may not have the quickness of CE, but he plays under control and he does more than some are giving him credit for. It's not that I don't think he adds to the team but his main role on the team is knocking down 3's. It is his #1 asset on the team Painter would admit as much. We haven't been able to get him any once he entered the starting lineup. My desire to move him back to the bench isn't because I don't think he can't contribute, its based on all the statistics that support that he was better off the bench and was able to get his shot there.

If Carsen didn't start against UM's athleticism, he isn't going to start for that reason against ISU.Agree. And vs ISU I would start Carsen for sure to get more quickness and athleticism on the floor right from the start. As you said Cline fits into the flow better after watching from the bench for a while.

And if you watched the game you would of seen the reason why. Every time Cline got the ball he had someone in his face. Cline also got some very questionable calls made on him in a flurry at one point thus making him pretty much a non-factor for the game.he didn't take a shot. think about that. the best shooter painter has ever recruited didn't take a shot.
Somewhat, but when our bigs are getting double & triple teamed, someone is open.Because only one of our guards (Carsen) can penetrate and break down the defense.
That's why I thought Spike's probing of the defense was so good tonight. He forced help defenders to do just that - help - and it got open looks or led to open shots.

The reason that Cline (and others) have difficulty getting up shots is because Purdue's offense has very little movement and it rarely creates easy shots. The majority of our open looks come when Swanigan gets double teamed and we kick the ball out and then swing the ball to the open man. CMP is a solid coach but his offense has consistently been stagnant.
you stand still when the defense's vision is based on movement. Like a t-rex. raaaaaarrrrrrrVery little movement....must be why we hear Painter screaming 'MOOOOOVE' so frequently. I guess he just likes to scream that to make the other team think players are moving when, in fact, they are told to just stand still.
Having to yell move is about as dumb as holding up signs that say call out screens or whatever it was.Very little movement....must be why we hear Painter screaming 'MOOOOOVE' so frequently. Not even close.Having to yell move is about as dumb as holding up signs that say call out screens or whatever it was.
Not to mention CE brings great energy and scoring off of the bench. If we can establish ourselves with Cline in our starting line-up we can really do some damage bringing CE off of the bench.I watched a replay of the game and some of you need to let up on Cline. And credit to Painter for bringing him back in the game at the absolute perfect time. And if you watched the game you would of seen the reason why. What we also saw is the reason CE isn't starting and it's working. Credit to CE though for getting 4 fouls but not getting the 5th and being a huge part of our run last night.
I think he may be hurt- was he wearing knee pads last night? I had not noticed that before. Also saw a picture of him getting some stretching/treatment at practice.if he's going to not work to get open so he can shoot the ball from the arc and quit making lazy passes, I'd rather see Grady Eifert.

You're always on my wavelength.Gotta get CMP a heavy-duty fluorescent clipboard or highlighter.....hey guys......over here!
