Chance to beat MSU?

I'm anticipating 2 early fouls on CS and IH after Izzo works over the refs from the opening tip. Like Twin said, this is not a good situation to go into. MSU desperately needs this win and they will play like it. We have to match that intensity for 40 minutes if we are going to get this one. Have to keep the TO's down (9 or less would be nice) and not give them easy run-outs. I'm usually one that is pretty positive before big games but I admit I don't have a good feeling about this one.

YEP.......Purdue needs to play like their hair is on fire....& they desperately need the win.

Izzo doesn't like to lose 2 in a row. He is going to have his team primed, and they match up physically to us, if we play tentatively. If MSU can knock us back on our heals, they can beat us. If we come out aggressive and play to our ability, we come out with a win because of MSU's inexperience.

I, too, think this is going to be a herculean test for Purdue.

I don't often cheer for Indiana, but I did when they hosted MSU for the exact reason cited above. I never like to go to somebody else's arena when they're coming off a loss.

Purdue has to find a way --- but I disagree that means playing with their hair on fire. Too often that leads to sloppy turnovers and poor shots. Purdue can't afford to give up easy transition points to MSU.

On the contrary, I think Purdue has to be deliberate. Be patient on offense, work for good shots, and dig their heals in on defense. Above all, Purdue can't get rattled when calls go against them and when MSU makes runs. Both of those things WILL happen Tuesday evening. Purdue has to stay focused and play with controlled intensity the entire game.

That would seem like a good strategy, but you were cheering for the wrong team then! Cheering for IU would mean that MSU would be coming off a loss heading into Tuesday.

Ah, good call, Statey! ---- I don't often cheer for MSU, but I did last time out!

I think Biggie is going to blow up on Ward. I look for a 10 point margin in the end.

I'll have to say 35%. We've played 3 true road games this season and we are 1-2 and could easily be 0-3. MSU should be tougher than Iowa or Ohio State road games. I can't objectively say this is a game I'm expecting us to win based on what we've seen this season so far. I will say that it is a game that we CAN win if we play well.

I'd say better than 50/50, even on the road.
we are playing well and msu has not been clicking themselves much. still looked terrible most of the game at iu.

plus if msu's coach is not considered elite, we should get better results than vs pitino(s)!

WAY better coach. Hopefully someone like Dakota can drop 20 and take the load off of Biggie. That's what it will take to get a win.
We usually shoot better on the road then we do at home. I like our chances, but as we've seen, we can be beat.

The key comes down to how Izzo plays Nairn vs. Winston. If Izzo plays Winston more, Purdue is in trouble because Nairn looks for his own shot way to much and misses guys that are open. Winston makes the guys around him better with passing and running the offense. The commentators on Saturday said that exact point and it is something I have seen while watching them as well.

If things go as they have all season, I think Purdue probably grinds out a close game 76-73 after a last second Miles Bridges 3 misses for the tie.

70%
But...

Our chances drop by 1% each time Izzo makes this face:

By 5% each time he makes this one:

By 10% each time he does this:

And if he pulls this one, it's game over:

mmm no. more like because upsets happen...
I don't want to see another 5 seed first night exit. Win now, make the road later easier.
Don't want to see one either. You seem to be sayin because they lost those two games they are not good........ and therefore we should handle them. Those upsets don't mean squat tomorrow night.
It's still Izzo and it's still MSU on the road. Never easy.

I'm not saying it's easy but I expect a team that wants to make some noise to win this game. This is very winnable. I would generally not seriously pick us to win in EL but they are not a strong team this year. Are we going to strive for excellence or what? Let's take the next step in becoming a great team and quit the excuse making that it's a road game. This team is better than a stinking 5 seed.

Agree with most of that, it is winnable and MSU is not the same as past teams.
I'm not trying to use the road game as an excuse. It's reality. It's the road in the B1G and anything can happen.

Someone should go read this to the team so they will want to win this game!

Can't be expecting a win we lost to Iowa on the road and almost OSU. Those are bottom feeders this year. But everyone on here says were fine but in reality 5-2 isn't that great with 5 early home games.

Theres absolutely no excuse for Painter to lose this game if he ever wants to be considered anywhere close to Izzo.

Painter has the better team, the more experienced team, the best player on the court, more size, better shooting, and the deeper team. If he cant beat Izzo away from Mackey THIS year, then Izzo just owns him.

Painter has a chance to win a conference championship this year. He needs to win these types of games. No excuses. Get the W and keep progressing as a team, or accept that you cant even win the B1G with the most talent in the league during a down year.

And by the way, I say all of this fully expecting a Purdue win and for Painter and Purdue to come up huge. I believe they should be challenging for the conference crown this year.

They area a game back of the leader who they beat head to head. I'd call that challenging.

To win a conference championship, you might be able to get away with one slip up. We've already had two. Our margin for error the rest of the way is almost nothing. Wisconsin may not lose more than a couple games the rest of the way.

I'm less concerned about the conference title at this point than I am with the team continuing to get better and build confidence. Whatever that leaves us in the standings is fine. We'll get into the tournament and that's where we need to prove our worth. Let's be honest, if we won the conference then didn't make the second weekend this year everyone here would lose their minds. If we finish 2nd in conference and go to the Elite 8 or Final Four, everyone here would be thrilled. So I'm not going to fret too much about the Big Ten except to the extent to which we use it to get ready for March.

If they lose tomorrow, they fall two games back already. I am of the belief that both Purdue is too good and the B1G is too down this year for Purdue to not stay hovering atop the standings. They certainly should not be 5-3 in the B1G, which they will be if they lose.

If they were to lose tomorrow, it would be the least surprising of their 3 conference losses so far. Your beef should be with the Minnesota and Iowa games.

You might be overstating our advantages. MSU has higher rated recruits across the whole court than we do. They have substantial home court advantage. I think your bombastic statements about no excuses reflect that you watch Purdues games exclusively and not enough games of other teams.

This is going to be a very difficult game for us to win. I always had this one pencilled as a loss, right from the start of the season. I would think MSU is favored at this point

this statement would agree with many posts of the past, including those argued to be negative
