May end up being better than 3twaun. I know, I know small sample size. I feel guilty even saying that because Moore is one of my all time favorites. But Carsen plays with such confidence and has the skills to back it up. He seems like the player that Ronnie Johnson thought he was, Ronnie just couldn't seem to grasp some elements of the "team" game.

Too early to tell, but I think E'Twaun was a better all around player. He could beat you in so many ways, even when his 3 point shot wasn't falling. Moore was 2nd team all B1G as a freshmen and an all American by the time he was done. I like CE, but he has a long way to go to compare him to Moore. Moore was also a stud in big games... I hope to see Carsen play big against better competition soon.

Agreed Carson is stronger and more adventurous but I believe Etwaun had a better skill set . Still way too early though

E'Twaun's defense was certainly under rated. He could do it all and do it well. Rebound, shoot, pass, even block shots. I doubt Carsen will ever be able to have to total game effect that Moore had. However, I feel like it was pretty well documented in those B1G The Journey shows that neither Moore or J Johnson were the vocal leader of those teams. I find it hard to believe that Carsen will fade into the background as those two guys did from time to time. I think he will be a huge piece for Purdue even in things like recruiting. He just has swagger AND skill.

"The player that Ronnie thought he was" I love that !!

His game reminds me a little more of Willie Dean than EM. EM was very smooth and a better shooter, but I do think CE is quicker.

Absolute respect to Etwaun. How does Carsen compare with freshman E? I would say comparable or better in terms of impact, normalizing for the fact that his overall team has more pieces & thus fewer opportunities for him (& that's a good thing). Does he have the potential to become a better player than E. It's possible but not sure how likely.

Sorry, forget the "or better"... That's crazy this early given what E did as a Frosh. I do think as far as impact normalizing for opportunity, Carson's right up there.

I just love the fact that FINALLY CMP has someone who can create and get his shot off with the time ticking off the clock. Probably been since E.Moore since Purdue has had that type of guy.

Thats all Terone Johnson did was create his own shot(or should I say floater?). Rarely went in but he did it alot lol

How about the pull up jump shot off glass from about 10 feet in the second half? Not used very much any more, but it is in theory an easy shot to make. If Edwards is willing and able to take and make that shot with any level of consistency, it could really help force opposing bigs to decide between packing the lane or coming out an defending the shot.

In any case, the guy is really fun to watch.

Love that....totally agree on it being underutilized, and it gives the player that much more weaponry. Havlicek made it an art form.

I think it is very likely that CBoogie (his nickname on the team if you follow the BoilerBall twitter account) ends up as an honorable mention All Conference player if he can continue his body of work through the conference season. Remember, most freshman hit a wall around February and seem to tire a bit...if Spike isn't able to come back by that time, we could see that with Carsen. However, if he can continue to build on his current play...no reason to think Purdue couldn't have a Freshman All American on the team.

I'm very impressed w/ the kid. He's aggressive, can score inside or outside, and confident. As a comparison, he reminds me of, dare I say, yogi.
But wait! According to the negatwitts, Painter can't recruit players like this! You mean they were wrong again? I am shocked SHOCKED I TELL YOU!

I hope you are correct, we'll see!

You are absolutely correct. Painter can't recruit. Don't you listen to anyone on here?? Jesus the kid wasn't even top 100 at the beginning of his senior year so he had to suckered. Then after high school he wasn't even top 50!! He's obviously not good enough.........

I AM SHOCKED AS WELL!

.

Yes, that one made me go wow. So effortless and confident too

The fact that it's even debatable is terrific. The kid is very good and going to get better. He is exactly what this team needs in terms of skill set and mental disposition. Is he as good as Etwaan? Not yet...
Of course he isn't, but I also recall that E'Twaun had a rough start to his freshman season, before hitting his stride during the Big Ten conference season.

Carsen is well ahead of schedule. I think that he'll be a better Willie Deane before his career is over. Purdue hasn't had many guards in the past 30 years with his potential.

Not saying he'll end up better than E'twaun but he's currently averaging more points per 40 minutes played than Moore averaged he's Senior year...

Carsen will good enough that we won't need to compare. And to your point, we must remember that nobody was as good as a first year player as themselves later on...except maybe Glen. I like the Willie Dean comparison though. Same type of explosiveness in all respects.

Purdue did well with the last guard from Texas although he was 6ft 5in and slower...can anyone remember Keith Edmonson?

Loved Edmundson...along with Drake, Arnette, Brian and Joe. And of course Scooby.

Keith Edmonson was fun to watch.....had a smoothness to his game...and could take over for short stretches.....really thought he'd have a better NBA career than he did. All-conference his senior year, IIRC.

Academic All-American as well.

The first five names I mentioned was the starting five on our last trip to FF.
I know, but not sure the year before wasn't a better team. Jerry and Brian could let the air out of the ball with 10 minutes to go and say game over. the next year purdue couldn't let the air out as wellIMO
