Carson looked great! His speed and skill are going to be fun to watch! Nice start to his college career! I love that he is in gold and black! What a great pick-up this guy is! Big Ten Freshman of the Year candidate!
This is why I trust painter and not the people on here. He knows what we need, not them and Carsen shuts all of them up.
Yes... painter has an eye for talent. But this year his eye has identified certain tiers of talent and has missed on seemingly all of the first and most of the second. That's why people are upset or worried.
Yep, a freshmen scoring against McNeese State in November is going to shut up people who point out Painter has 1 shared B1G championship and 2 sweet 16's in 11 years and hasn't won in the NCAA tournament in 5 years...
Meanwhile IU has a freshman guard who gives them 15 points off the bench in a win over #3 Kansas on a neutral floor. The B1G is loaded this year. Too early to know much, but we will find out more when Purdue plays Nova in a few days. If CE can give us 15 non-garbage time points in a win vs. Villanova, I will be very impressed.
But "missed" at this point is based solely on your perception. When you go after the same recruits that the elite are going after, then you will miss on targets. But that is what everyone wanted Painter to do on here previously and now that he is and having the expected results, people are being very hypocritical in their critique on him and the recruits he is getting.
I prefer to wait and see rather than throw CMP and the other recruits he has under the bus because quite frankly, none of us are coaching at that level and have no real experience to base any judgments on. Just our perception of how we see things going and the self-entitled nature of those that define their lives based off of how a college team performs.

Bingo. Same clowns were here bashing Carsen Edwards commit as a reach. They will never realize that you have to wait and actually see the kid play before drawing such conclusions.
Except that he is. He landed Biggie, Carsen and Vince. Vince has turned in to an elite player and Biggie he had to go get form MSU regardless of the whole mentor thing and then he got CE. So my original post still stands.
Sadly, I don't think some people will ever shut up. This board is supposed to be for the enjoyment of PU fans. Enjoyment for some is derailing threads and raining on parades. They are here to bring others down, plain and simple. They have a position, an agenda, and have stated it ad nauseam. Pride prevents most of them from even showing up on here after a PU victory. Are they on this board to "show everyone the light"? To change people's minds? Or just to stir shit up like a common troll? Maybe they just like to argue. I get that, but I guess I don't understand why they don't just start their own PU website where they can all wallow in their despair.... and let others on this site simple congratulate a young man on a well played game. I don't mind people sharing their concerns for the program on here, because there are concerns to be shared........but for a select few, it is not enough. It has to be a pissing match. And I don't see a victory over Villanova changing a damn thing.
You are very correct. If we beat Nova then there will be crickets, if we lose then this forum will be unbearable to be around because of the exact reasons you list.
I think it tells us alot about the type of people they are and what kind of life they must lead away from this board. Personally I just let their presence serve as a reminder to me to be thankful that I'm not a lonely, bitter person.
The same negative Nellies seem to forget the years with guys like Calasan as the best we had and no bench whatsoever. Over the past 4 years by adding 3-4 pieces a year we have become much more talented. Depth is not an issue if the recruits keep their heads out of their asses.
There is one common theme I have noticed coming from the detractors and that they pretty much have already given up on next year and any possibility of this team being good no matter what. How miserable does one have to be to give up so easily?
Let's assume Biggie leaves. There is nothing so far showing the Vince or Haas go so it's not like our cupboard will be bare. Like you said there are a few pieces added each year and just because they weren't the first picks of some on here, it doesn't mean they won't have an impact of be successful.
I think it's a pretty big upset to beat the #4 team in the country, and an expected loss if we don't. If we beat the defending NC team it will be anything but crickets... that would be HUGE! That would go a long way for seeding in March! I will give Painter plenty of credit for that win. Will it make me believe he is a very good or elite coach? Nope. But if he can pull that off it could be the start of him proving he is.
Yes, . . he will. I have always thought that quickness and driving ability would make him an freshman impact player for us. After watching him last night, I still believe that. He was a little tentative after the first few shots didn't drop, but I believe Matt just told him to make sure he contributed in other ways and then we saw the defensive presence, the driving and the passing.
He will be fine, but will just need the non-conference to get his confidence up. I also think he will eventually start for us - he just does so many things for us that others can't provide. (ie quickness, ability to drive, easy assists underneath, possible steals, etc..)
He's going to be a fun & special player (as you say) to watch at Purdue.
Some people have an agenda to defend Painter no matter what he does on or off the court. Some are trolls on everything. Some are more balanced and love Purdue but not Painter or love Purdue and like Painter.

He did land Biggie and Vince. Carsen may turn out good. I admit those are a couple of positives. My point is, the hypocrisy and faux claims about personalities when someone disagrees. Or, would like to see a better product on the court. It's the same old character attacks when the fact is pointed out Painter has done less than some desire. I'm not writing off this year, as it's far too early. Projecting a less than stellar year and recognizing that next year may be even worse does not mean anything about character any more than settling for mediocrity means for others. It's hypocritical to scream and attack others as you do the very same on the other side of the coin. Some people here have been doing the "Wait and see" thing, in their opinion, long enough. It doesn't make them any less a Purdue fan or Alum. And, it certainly doesn't make them any less of a redeeming quality of person. So, maybe the next time someone points out concern, you all should follow your own advice and exercise respect and tolerance. I usually see the same pattern: Someone points out a flaw, or perceived flaw and declining trend....is followed with a character attack that is not even backed by an opinion on the subject. Just an attack on the OP's character. JMO.

You realize that this is the post that derailed this thread? Right? I think that the constant complainers tend to ruin this board, just like you do, so let's not bait them.
I don't see it being a "balance" issue. And I have little problem with these people, if they take their CONSTANT bitching and moaning about everything PU to their own site. These people have stated their position, and it's time to move on. I don't think this site was created to be a PU dumping ground. Time for these people to start a new site, and I promise I won't post anything positive on it. I mean, what is the purpose to come on here time and time again just to shit on PU? Like I said, most people come to this site to enjoy PU...........not to down it every chance they get. Of course there are concerns, and most are aware of them.......but when you can't even enjoy a win, or a kid playing a good game, then it is time to move on.

I do agreed that a couple of members on here can be overly negative, but a few on here also take it too personally. A public forum is a mean for the ideas to be exchanged, frustration to heard, pride to be shown, excitement to be shared etc. Understand that and you will be a lot happier.

Basically, IMHO if a certain select few have so many problems with CMP, PU sports, the AD, or God knows what else........then take it up with them. You know what is a constant here on this forum? The bickering back and forth and by the same people. It isn't a "discussion" either, it is flat out along the lines of "I know you are ... but what am I".
Hell the same arguments are used over and over again even with predictability . And before I get jumped on, I am not talking about civil and rational discussions, but the same old stuff that goes on so frequently. Its really one of the reasons I don't post a lot here anymore, it has nothing to do with having a thin skin either, it's just boring seeing the same trollish posts from both "sides" over and over again.
