Standing around waiting for your post guy to get in place is no fun? What is it with athletic guys and painter basketball teams? They can’t leave fast enough it seems like.

I agree that I think that Heide is probably the bigger loss. I'm just willing to see what Painter does with the portal before I feel like the sky is falling. At the end of the day these were both bench guys who ooze potential that hasn't really translated top results quite yetI agree with this, but I do think we will miss Heide's athleticism & rebounding.
I'm not sure if 'stubborn' is the correct word. I just think he's such a system guy and he truly believes in it. It's hard to bet against his system when it continues to work.Painter will pivot.
Let's just be honest with ourselves, we originally had a 6 man freshman class this year with one graduating senior. Most of us questioned that decision. There was zero chance everyone was going to stay in this situation. We lost 4 bench guys so far (two of which barely played), and one starter by default to graduation. Heide and Colvin have always had more potential than results. We live in the NIL world and Painter will adjust to it. He's stubborn but he comes around. Let's see how he handles the portal this year after the first time he's had some serious deflections in a while. Why would Painter quit because instead of trying to develop every player for 4 years, he picks up a few polished products to work with?
Yeah I really can’t think of many other reasons. Our offense just doesn’t seem suited for athletic role players. A jaden Ivey type will be featured, but you have to think Colvin and Heide wanna get out and run more. Anyways, it’s encouraging we were able to land cluff so now I have some faith we can land a difference maker at guard and on the wing. If we’re willing to pay/have the money, Heide is replaceable.Standing around waiting for your post guy to get in place is no fun?
Whether or not they were hindered by Painter's scheme is irrelevant. That's not changing next year. If they go to a different coach that turns them into first round picks, I will be happy for them. If the problem was scheme, that's not going to change next year. Especially not with Jacobson and Cluff. The biggest leap is usually between freshman and sophomore year and neither took a huge leap, regardless of the reason. If you want to blame Painter, you can, but then it also makes their departures that much less impactful. It's also possible we will be trading oozing potential, for something of a known quantity.Kinda hard to progress when the whole scheme was PNR with Smith and TKR. Can’t blame either Colvin nor Heide to wanting to expand their game. Beside Braden probably only 2 that have a chance to play on the NBA. Based on shooting ABILITY and athleticism, remember NBA is not based on what you have done but what you can do
Stubborn might be the wrong word, I agree. Maybe more like "resistant to change until it becomes obvious it's a neccessity"I'm not sure if 'stubborn' is the correct word. I just think he's such a system guy and he truly believes in it. It's hard to bet against his system when it continues to work.
I don't think CMP will quit because of this. He's a thinker, competitor, a true coach, and loves Purdue. I would be very shocked if he did.
TKR in the post is nice and all, but I thought playing fast was the way to go this year. Maximize the 5 guards and Colvin. Probably would have gotten a little more out of Furst even.Yeah I really can’t think of many other reasons. Our offense just doesn’t seem suited for athletic role players. There was part of me dying for Jacobsen to come back. I honestly highly doubt that Painter didn't play him solely because he wanted to keep him a year of eligibility. It's possible, and if so, shame on Painter. But I feel like health factors probably played a roleAnother reason why redshirting doesn’t work on this new world of NIL. IF and only Painter and Jacobsen know if he was healthy , he should have played him at the end , we were fairly close to final 4 talent. And I really doubt he sticks around for his 5th year . Have to go for it every year there is no building programs anymore
I don't know. We played a team we mirrored and could have won that game. Houston is the only team to run that style. 3 out of 4 have a rim protector and/or a banger.TKR in the post is nice and all, but I thought playing fast was the way to go this year. Maximize the 5 guards and Colvin. Probably would have gotten a little more out of Furst even.
They were only sophomoresI agree that I think that Heide is probably the bigger loss. I'm just willing to see what Painter does with the portal before I feel like the sky is falling. mood stabilizers might help. Dude, you are all over the place....yikes.IF YOU AIN'T STARTIN' , YOU DEPARTIN'. loyalty no longer exists. legacy no longer exists. Cam obviously read my post on facebook. it said you have 80 minutes for 2positions. that provides 25 minutes each for Jacobsen, Cluff, and TKR and 5 minutes for cam and Burgess to share at the 4.
I also pointed out maybe Cam could plat at the three position, but Painter loves to play his 3 guard offense, so there would be 0 opportunity/minutes for Cam to play the 3. Obviously, he wanted to play more than 5 minutes a game. and it wasn't going to happen at Purdue. if you were a math major, you could see this happening the minute Cluff signed with Purdue. .
and the truth and reality is blind squirrels don't find nuts. They are killed by hawks, and other animals. it's time some of you faced reality and used your brains. what was true in the past, is no longer true. this is no longer the 50's.
Burgess seems to be OK with sitting on the bench for next year and get his 5 minutes.
Harris seems to be Ok battling it out with Benter, Cox and West. if Painter brings in another experienced guard or a 6'7 forward from the portal, to play the 3, Harris is not going to stick around much longer to watch from the bench. It's time fans realized high ranked players with dreams of playing in the pros don't stick around to play 5 minutes a game. I'll say it now. Harris' decision to stay or leave will be based on who Painter signs from the portal.
I don't want players like Harris, Cam, gillis, or myles to leave. But the reality is, they have pro aspirations. and they need playing time more than they need NIL money. if they perceive there will be reduced playing time, they will look elsewhere. Very few college players today join a team just for the chance to win a championship, except maybe Gillis. if they are good and have pro aspirations, they want playing time.
you can call me any name you want. it's not going to change the new reality of college basketball. IF YOU AIN'T STARTIN', YOU'RE DEPARTIN' !!!!!
I'm not a real big fan of acorns. I tried them a couple of times as a child. , and switched to pecans and walnuts and our dog killed the blind squirrel. and as for the facebooks groups I belong to, they could also see this coming. It was their board and not this one that first reported Myles had contacted painter 3 weeks before the tourney. But you in your arrogance refused to believe any facebook poster knows anything. they are just a bunch of blind squirrels.
So what are you drinking tonight ? who's going trolling on the IU board tonight ? who are you going to bully and call names tonight ?
I don’t know that Purdue needs players who can jump out of the gym as much as players who have functional quickness. Smith, Cox, and Harris have what I am talking about. Loyer doesn’t, but you can hide one guy with his level of skill. I think Painter will bring in another wing with some good lateral quickness and Purdue will be fine.worst part is we just lost our 2 most athletic players. Hopefully we can find 1-2 portal players to replace the lost athleticism. That is my concern-
Heide was with the program 3 years. And once again, I never denied that each oozed, and I mean oozed potential. But it's not like they didn't get a shot this year, and they didn't produce much results. It's a little silly to think that a known commodity from the portal will be a huge step back from either, unless you are absolutely banking on them taking the step forward next year, that most people expected this year. They were only sophomores

But can or will we pay for that known commodity . I do agree with you with the production point . I guess the question is 1. How much were we willing to pay Heide or Colvin and 2. how much are we willing to pay the known commodityHeide was with the program 3 years. I agree with this. The loss is more if we don't find any good portal adds. But with Cluff already on board, I feel good about us getting a Heide/Colvin replacement. That's why I don't feel like the sky is falling. If portal season comes and goes and we have massive holes, that's different. But right now, with what Colvin and Heide gave us THIS YEAR, I don't think portal adds will be that much of a drop off. But time will tell. But can or will we pay for that known commodity . I do agree with you with the production point . I guess the question is 1. How much were we willing to pay Heide or Colvin and 2. how much are we willing to pay the known commodity
Was thinking this yesterday after the Colvin news. Can Waddel take his back? shit.
Why is the first reaction always “money talks”? There is no indication that any of these guys are just chasing a bag. None of our portal entrants were starters. How about “playing time talks” or “being a starter talks”? Guys want to go where they can get minutes to showcase their talents. No one is poaching any of our current portal guys away from Purdue for a huge sum of money.Money talks, unfortunately….
I see this the same way as Myles- if he lands someplace where he’s guaranteed starter minutes and is a featured element of the offense, he should definitely take the more lucrative pay.
I’ll miss both of ‘em, but I can’t fault either of them.
Another address to send a 2026 Final Four postcard: “…wish you were here!”
If he didn't see the floor much. He/We should move on.Was thinking this yesterday after the Colvin news.
“BRIAN ! BUDDY !!! Hey Listen, we’ve been talking about you over here today…”
To be fair— that is only slightly less fun than repeatedly clanking WIDE OPEN threes for much of the season.Standing around waiting for your post guy to get in place is no fun?
I actually think he would do a good job!Can Waddel take his back? shit.
Jayce Rahl is staying. So all is not lost. 😂So with your strategy, every bench player will enter the portal on every team, every year.
We all know you aren’t really a Purdue fan. But it’s quite hilarious how you need validation. Even a broken clock is right twice a day , Wule. I’m glad you finally get your moment to shine. The more 💩 you throw against the window, the better your chances are you finally get 1 thing right.
But while it sucks these guys left, it’s more
Important to keep a core together for the following year. So hopefully we keep the big 3 together plus the remaining guys plus 2 portal guys, and we will be fine.
And guess what? Guys will hit the portal next year—it’s the nature of the beast.
if we get 2 of these 3 , I would be happy Tae Davis, Davis ( SIU) or Sutton from OmahaI’m even more disappointed with this one since Colvin, part of his competition for playing time left. I’d have thought the chance to run it back to the FF might keep one of them in tow. Leaving for more pt must be more important than a chance at playing for NC! Oh well life goes on. I’m going to miss these guys
Idk.. Painter let Etwaun, Carsen and Jaden cook…Standing around waiting for your post guy to get in place is no fun?
Well the 2 guys ahead of him are gone now.If he didn't see the floor much. He/We should move on.
