It seems like Posey has been mentioned as making some key receptions in the drills so far.Can anyone who has seen the practices tell us how he has looked?

Posey probably looks the most like a B1G caliber WR at this point. Yancey seems to have made some headway in the realm of effort and details (Shoop made about two comments to Yancey at practice Thursday about how good he has looked). The WR's in general looked ok but will desperately need Anthrop to come back and be effective from the first game. Watching practice and focusing on the routes down the field, there were multiple times when you could clearly see a WR would be matched up one on one with a CB and the QB simply never even looked that way or didn't even attempt to go over the top. Instead, they dumped it down time and time again which is why in the games we as fans seem to see that same type of throw done over and over. Is a check down and dump to a RB or to the flat good? Of course, but you can also coach it too much and it becomes the first option in a QB's mind. Personally, I believe we saw that with Appleby as the season went on after his start against Illinois. He seemed to take some shots down the field but as he spent more and more time as the #1, he seemed to go to the check down/dump pass all too often.

Practice, particularly spring practice, is a time to work on those skills and allow WR's to make plays in one on one situations. Let the QB throw the ball down the field and watch the underneath routes and draws open up for our players to take advantage!

Also, TE's outside of Justin Curry seem unreliable IMO. Carvajal has added much need bulk and was receiving one on one route coaching along side Matt Burke, but some of them just don't look the part of a Sinz or Holmes.

Thanks for your reply,Johnny .I cant get away to see a team practice,so I appreciate any insight.I have thought that Posey might become a top receiver and maybe this will be the year.

It's kind of depressing that we don't have anyone that can fill the void of Holmes or Sinz. One couldn't catch a cold and the other wasn't very fleet of foot. I would think we have someone or a few guys who could at least match what they brought. Personally I think Carlos is that guy if he can be healthy, I think he will be the biggest surprise this season.

JDB-
Thanks for the report!
For those who have the opportunity to attend practice, be in the locker room, or "mingle", please let us know what is going on with our Boilers. Media have lost interest and others are tuned into BB ( where our Boilers IMPROVED to be 4th out of 14), so it is difficult to learn what's happening with Boiler FB. We depend upon fans ( KHs?) for info!

Jonathan Curry right? Good to hear him finally making some waves.

Posted a bit more in detail in another thread if you are interested. Curry seems to have made a good adjustment from RB and has taken to it like a fish in water. I think he will make a very good TE but may need lots of coaching as the spring goes on. Guys like Carvajal and Burke have lots of talent but need to make some major strides (especially Carvajal) to see the field extensively.

CArvajal being injured a lot....AND needing bulk has made him slow to contribute for us.

Would be nice if this was the year he finally worked his way into the rotation.

He has 1 more year after this....correct?

Now you are really starting to confuse me? Are you talking Jonathan Curry? When was he a RB? He was a 3 star TE out of HS....

They moved him to fullback/hback two years ago.

Posey is good - but the problem is keeping him on the field. He got in trouble and has also seemed to be injury prone. Not a good combo.

Never heard of any behavior problems with Posey? Is this true Stacey?

I do think that he is incredibly soft... When the neighborhood boys accuse each other of being weak the use the term "Posey."

I think you are getting Posey mixed up w/ a similar sounding "p word".
