Absolute blood-letting.

Teams that lost in the past 7 days:
#1
#2
#4 (Twice)
#6 (Twice)
#8
#9
#10
#11
#12
#14 (Twice)
#16
#17
#20
#24

So 14 of the Top 25 lost. Also, the #5, #15, #17, #18, & #22 teams all pulled out come-from-behind close victories. Some of the losses were admittedly against ranked opponents, so they may not be considered upsets, but the point to this being, pretty much every team out there can lose on any day, especially on the road. Let's keep our heads on straight and remember that this is just a game.

Obviously it's all Painter's fault!!!

I'm keeping my head on straight and not getting too close to any ledges!

For myself and others the biggest disappointment was that we were only 1 game out of 1st place holding the tie breaker with one team we were chasing and still a game to play HTD with the other. Unfortunately the two teams we were chasing came through and won their close games and stretched the lead to 2 games.

I know there are many on here that don't care about the regular season title and it has been diminished, I don't disagree. However, I would still like us to win it. I want the championship and the #1 seed in the B1G tournament that comes with it. In most years that also means you have earned a high seed in the big dance. With our schedule in conference this year, we would most certainly have gotten a #4 or higher by winning the conference. All of those things are certainly still possible, but they took a huge hit yesterday because we couldn't beat a team that has a losing record over 20 games into the season.

Of course it's just a game, but this is a college basketball message board. We aren't talking about world events here. We're discussing a game and team that we love. I'm not calling for any heads, but I also think it's okay to be pissed off and admit this was a bad loss and one that most likely cost us a shot at a title.

Never mind trying to justify it because other teams ranked in the top 25 lost this week...without admitting that it was not just a bad loss, but the third bad loss now in three weeks...it is not as if yesterday was just some blip on the radar, it has happened once a week save the week before last since conference play began.

Conference champion or not, and, like you, I would much rather be it than not regardless of whether it has been diminished or not, but the season is ultimately measured by what happens in the NCAA tournament...and to maximize the potential for success there, it is important (if not imperative) to have earned the highest seed possible...and Purdue, yet again, did not do that unfortunately this year.

It is not about losing A game or having A bad loss...it is about having three of them in just over three weeks, and nearly a fourth...and while that has pretty much ended any feasible chance at winning the regular season conference championship, it is the impact that it has on their seed in the NCAA tournament that is far more of a concern and issue...never mind the obvious as to how/why they continue to fail to close games out and lose to teams that they are much better than, as that is an issue of its own and will be a significant one regardless of what their seed ultimately is.

Are you assuming we are much better than other teams? Results have been a mixed bag this season so I'd be a bit slower to make that proclamation.

Yes, I am content in assuming that Purdue is much better than Minnesota, Nebraska and Iowa...and I am content as well in believing that the mixed bag is not a result of them not being much better, but rather, poor coaching and poor execution...and a failure on the part of both parties to adjust (never mind learn from the past experiences).

Purdue is not nearly as good as most of this board seems to think. Not many people here watch college basketball outside of Purdue and maybe a few other select Big Ten games here and there.

But coaching and execution are part of being, therefore to be much better you need not only physical talent/smarts/desire, but also the coaching and execution.

And Notre Dame just lost.

It's clear to me that Villanova is the best team in the nation.

Complete agreement and have been all year. Some that are outspoken on the board don't believe that they are a juggernaut but I think they are very solid.

I don't think they're a juggernaut (I don't think there is one this year) but I don't think I've seen anyone argue that they don't belong in the conversation for the best team. I think they are in the top tier.

The one team I wouldn't want to play in the tourney is West Virginia.
